Patterson doesn't expect bad news from Pachall MRI

5

TCU coach Gary Patterson doesn't expect anything too serious when quarterback Casey Pachall's MRI test results come back Wednesday. "We don't think it's a big deal," Patterson said after Wednesday's morning scrimmage at Amon G. Catter Stadium. "I don’t expect to see anything." Pachall has missed the last three practices, including Wednesday's scrimmage, with shoulder soreness. He was suited out the last two days but did not throw, according to Patterson. Pachall told Patterson the soreness is from a hit he sustained during a practice, but Patterson isn't so sure. "I can’t find anywhere on film when he was hit, but he says he was," Patterson said.

TCU QB Pachall sits out practice with shoulder soreness, will undergo MRI on Wednesday

2

Ruh-roh. I mentioned in my offensive preview last week that my biggest concern with Pachall was his durablility so this is certainly not a good sign of things to come. Hopefully the MRI proves to be nothing because the backups just aren't ready for game action. Will keep you informed as this situation develops.

And BOOM goes the dynamite: Renegade Miami football booster spells out illicit benefits to players

3

In 100 hours of jailhouse interviews during Yahoo! Sports’ 11-month investigation, Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro described a sustained, eight-year run of rampant NCAA rule-breaking, some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs. At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to: cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and on one occasion, an abortion.

"I don’t think Boise has been beating people because of their uniforms. To be honest with you, it’s not about Boise wearing blue on game day, it’s about breaking them down on film. Second thing, all that blue that’s around is more of a problem. Just listen to their players…We got to go play. Right now we’re playing Baylor. They may come out in all green, on green grass and have green wrapping around it. They want me to worry about Boise, Boise is not my concern." -Gary Patterson

Dr. James Andrews gives TCU pitcher Matt Purke a clean bill of health

4

TCU sophomore pitcher Matt Purke is likely to miss the next two to three weeks with soreness and inflammation in his throwing shoulder, but has no injury, according to several sources close to the team. Renowned shoulder specialist Dr. James Andrews examined Purke April 20 after the left-hander felt pain during a start at San Diego State on April 16. TCU released a statement Thursday that cited portions of Andrews' report. "We certainly don't have any reservations recommending him for being drafted as a professional," the statement says Andrews wrote in his report sent to major league teams. "His prognosis looks good and he should respond to a minimum period of active rest and conservative treatment to get his shoulder built back up."

BYU Commits to Armed Forces Bowl in 2011

6

"Brigham Young University is scheduled to play in the Armed Forces Bowl following the 2011 football season. The Cougars must be bowl eligible and not selected for a BCS game. The ninth annual bowl, which returns to Dallas for the second straight year, is scheduled for Dec. 30, at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium in University Park, Texas, and will feature an opponent from Conference USA. The kickoff is set for noon (MST), and will be televised nationally on ESPN." Normally I would throw in some extra jab to work the BYU fans into a tizzy but I really think this story speaks for itself.

The Truth About Race, Religion, and the Honor Code at BYU

Very interesting Dead Spin piece written by Darren Smith, a black Mormon and former BYU professor. It touches on how black athletes are treated differently under the honor code and how they get deceived during their recruitment with a downplaying of the honor code and the occasional orgy or two. "I'm here for the gang bang."

I've received many phone calls about our new Nike football uniforms and helmet that we unveiled at last Saturday's banquet and then posted on our website. We very much value our relationship with Nike and how much they've become a part of the TCU family. Gary Patterson worked closely with Nike and its design team on enhancing our brand nationally. The new set of uniforms and helmet simply provide us with another option on what to wear each game. We now have four sets of uniforms and four different helmets, including our traditional helmet with the Frog, our new one and the two from the Pro Combat series. The student-athletes in our football program and those we are recruiting are passionate about uniforms and love the options now available through Nike.
