Ben Gross has been covering NIU athletics for the past five years as a reporter and a sports editor. Gross started as a reporter for the Northern Star covering the NIU volleyball team. As a reporter with the Northern Star Gross covered the Huskies' football team for four seasons. He worked with players like running back Garrett Wofle, offensive lineman Doug Free and defensive lineman Larry English among others. Gross also was a beat writer for NIU men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball while a reporter at the Northern Star.

As a sports editor, Gross managed a staff of seven writers covering NIU athletics from December of 2007 to June of 2008. This included covering the tragic events of February 14 on the campus of Northern Illinois University. Gross developed a number of graphical story telling devices as editor that the Northern Star still uses to this date.

Gross has also covered NIU athletics as a freelance writer for a number of publications. This includes the Chicago Sun-Times, the Aurora Beacon and the Freeport Journal-Standard.

Gross completed his Masters of Arts in political science in the summer of 2010. He resides in Naperville where he works as a freelance writer.
