McCovey Chronicles CC and the Fodgers

CC is coming to the west coast and wants to play here.  Would it be worth it to sign him just to keep him from any other team in the West?  Trading Sanchy or Cainer(he sucks) could get a nice bat in return, so would it be logical to block especially the Fodgers or Slippery Snakes from getting him?  Cainer could get somebody like Fielder back(tho I like El Toro switching between 1B and 3B and Catching.  Sanchez could get someone like Hardy back which would fill a hole as well. Whaddya think?

McCovey Chronicles OT:Nellie gets 6.3 mil from Cuban

From espn.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3514135

Way to go nellie.  I hate Cuban and his stupid Goatee!  He's 50 today and he lost on his b-day.  Right on.  Whats sad is the 6.3 mil for Cuban is like a 50 spot to us, not really that much when it comes down to it.  I think it would be great for the cubbies to win it all this year and then he buys and they do nothing for the next hundred years.  Thank god for Will the Thrills ability to read lips! CHANGEUP! Boom!

McCovey Chronicles Juan Rivera

MLBtraderumors.com mentioned that the Angels are looking to move him and the Gigantes were mentioned as one of the possible interested parties.  He has been playing some 1B and he can hit pretty well.  Anyone other than Caincecum and Brian Wilson sounds like a good deal.  They need pitching so Sanchez or Lowry, some bully help, and maybe Rajai or Freddy.  Whaddya think?

McCovey Chronicles Bully

With the next few years looking to be crappy, why not get rid of the old lazy bastards in the pen.  Kline, Taschy, Messenger(already down, needs to go), and Chulk need to go.  Why not see where Merkin, Threets, and Cappellan keep their "warrior spirit".  I know it is difficult to get rid of Roberts, Aurilia, and Durham, but the pen is cheap and crappy.  What's to gain in keeping them?

McCovey Chronicles Sabes just does not get it

I like the Rowand signing, but Sabes does not get what he NEEDS to do.  I mentioned in another thread that he should wait, trade his younger pitching so that his really young pitching can come up and replace the traded pitchers.  According to MLBtraderumors.com, the Pads are in on Jason Bay.  The Bucs wanted Chase Headley, but the Pads said no.  Good move.  Bay is a buy low-high upside player right now.  The Friars are looking to trade some young players, pitchers for hitting.  They will then replace with draft pitchers.  Trade your strength to make yourself stronger in other areas.  Sabes should have gotten in on this kind of action and not went with the buy of Rowand.  The Rowand deal is not a bad buy considering its only 12 mil a year, but a player like Rowand could have been avoided without giving 5 years to the player.

McCovey Chronicles Looks like 60 mil--not bad

Aaron Rowand agreed to a $60 million, five-year contract with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, giving the club the starting center fielder it sought this winter.  (ESPN)

McCovey Chronicles Late night thought

Lately we hear so much about how every team needs pitching sooooooooo badly.  My question is, with everyone needing more and more pitching why is it so hard to trade good pitching for great hitting?  If pitching is so hard to find, why can't Sabes find a way to get some hitters back for Lowry, or Sanchez, or any of the good(not great) pitching the Gigantes have?

McCovey Chronicles Dontrelle a GIGANTE! Maybe?!

From mlbtraderumors.com: "Brian Sabean spoke on the radio about making this decision within a few days; there's even a rumor the Giants could pursue the Tigers' Dontrelle Willis to replace Lincecum."

I thought they might try to bring Dontrelle back to the bay eventually.  So Inge, Dontrelle, and if they have anyone left on the minors for one of Caincecum.  Maybe go after Matsui for Freddie L and whoever else they want not on the 40 man not named Bumgarner or Noonan or out of the last draft and the hit is not as bad for just losing one of Caincecum.  Maybe try to get Fukudomer or Cameron or someone with some sort of RBI potential.  But we have the problem of too many lefty pitchers.  Roster would look like this:

C: Benjie-Mo
1B: Orty
2B: Fransden/Durham
3B: Inge
SS: Omar
CF: Winn
LF: Matsui/Fukudome
RF: Matsui/Fukudome

Bench:
Roberts/Aurilia/Davis/Rodriguez/Fransden or Durham/Schierholtz
(that is a lot of outfielders)

Pitchers:

SP: Caincecum/Zito/Willis/Lowry/Correia

RP: Walker/Chulk/Sanchez/Kline/Wilson/Hennesey

25 man roster.  its not an explosive lineup, but better.  THe offense does not look as offensive as it did before.  If you can have JT teach Schierholtz some 1B he can split time as well with Orty.

If the Yanks want to shed payroll thouh and send Matsui over for Fred Lewis and Scrub Scubberson, I say do it NOW sabes.

McCovey Chronicles I'd think about it...

I hear all the rumors about one of Caincecum going to Toronto for Rios and the only way I see this is a deal is if they give us back accardo and we take on Glaus and his monster contract.  I doubt his infraction with steriods will effect the locker room as Bonds did.  So Rios, Accardo, and Glaus for Lincecum and maybe throw in Sanchez?  Starters would be:

1B-Orty
2B-Fransden
SS-Omar
3B-Glaus
LF-Roberts/Rajai/Scheirholtz
CF-Winn/Roberts/Rajai
RF-Rios

SP-Cain,Zito,Lowry,Correia,Misch(get a vet like Trachsel off the scap heap)
RP(the good ones)-Tyler Walker, Brian Wilson, Chulky.
CL-Accardo

It sucks to give up Lincecum, but at least the lineup looks better.  Zito'll come back to form too.
Any thoughts?

McCovey Chronicles SF Padres?!

One thing that has been missed because of the lack of interest in the Giants is the Dodgers decline and soon-to-be fall of LA.  Colletti was given much love for his work with Sabes on getting the Giants to the WS in 2002, and a great team for a few years there.  But what he is doing to the Dodgers is going to get ugly, and I could not be happier.  He is buying crappy old players that are run down(sounds familiar).  The Dodgers announced that Schmidt is going back to the DL.  As a Giant, Schmidt was by far my favorite player.  I wanted the trade for him, called THE EVERYTHING-GIANTS station to make my bid for Schmidt, and was ecstatic when Sabes brought him in.  The day he signed with the Dodgers was the day he went from favorite player to most hated Giant since Brett Butler.  But Schmidt is done, and was done last year, so whatever.

But all I hear about is what a great job Ned is doing down there, and all I see is crap.  He overpaid for Pierre, Furcal, Schmidt, and Wolf.  Also, Brad Penny will have another bad second half of the season.  It might not be as bad as Sabes this last off-season, but Sabes at least tried to get younger before having to go older.  There are rumors about trading some of their young talent for Adam Dunn or whoever.  I say please do it so the Dodgers can become the 2007 Giants over the next few years.

The Padres will have the West again, and Bochy is asking himself why the hell did I leave.  But here is what they are setting up for.  If we could have the Padres team up here we would all be happy and most likely be in great shape.  But we will soon.  For Peavy and Young, the Giants have Lincecum and Cain.  Oh ya, and Zito (who will turn around this season), Lowry and Sanchez.  They need to look into getting Marcus Giles next year(by-the-by).  Bring some F-U-N back into the clubhouse next year. Dont get rid of Sabes, yet.  He tried to get young power hitters last offseason, but nothing can be done if they dont sign.  But Giles and Cabrera would be awesome next year.  Fransden at short, and I like Klesko/Aurilia at first if we cannot trade them.  Ort, Lewis, and Schierholtz as the young outfield sharing time as Randy Winn patrols center.  Molina at Catcher and the Bonds-era in the past.  Looks to be a solid team going into the future.  Maybe we can be the new Padres.

McCovey Chronicles ALL OVER!

Season-Over?  I told my little brother, the eternal optimist, that that is that.  Season DONE!  Sabean will make his moves, after the All-Star Game.  Morris, Durham, Visquel, Pedro, Roberts, Klesko, and Aurilia(if you can get anything for the last three).  All gone.  This season is now all about the HOME RUN RECORD, and that is it.  So, I hate to say it, but Gary Freaking Radnich is right, it now does not matter if we win or lose, just if Barry hits one out. I watched the DVR version of the game, and thank god I only used an hour instead of three.  I stopped for Bonds, and that was it, cuz the rest of this game was CRAP!  So Magowan, Baer, and Sabes, this is what you have created.  Now take the opportunity to trade all of this crap for something youthful.  A week after the break, I hope to see Lewis, Ort, Schierholtz, Frandsen, and any other youngins to bring up to see how they do.  I would love to trade a young pitcher or two or three for Miguel Cabrera and lock him up with cash saved.   Sanchez is a stud, but maybe he needs to be traded.  THe pitching in the minors looks great, so lets do what the Sabean Giants do best, trade that young pitching, but instead of old hitting, for younglings hoping to do something with an opportunity.  GO GIANTS, errrr, GO BARRY!!!  its the only thing to root for now.

McCovey Chronicles Sexson?

What does everyone think about bringing in ole Richie SExson, only if Seattle pays a big chunk of his contract and the give back is a pitcher or two?  He is a fastball guy and hitting in front of Barry he should see a lot of em.  He is not doing well up there in Seattle, but who is doing well up there? No protection.  He's a fix-it guy, but he has power, and our minors are loaded with pitching prospects.  He's got to be scarier than Klesko and Richie.

McCovey Chronicles Rundowns

Being a Giants fans for years, I have never seen so many botched rundowns in a season.  Does anyone know which coach is in charge of this and why the hell they are not doing there job.  If there isn't one, we need to have someone named it, I am up for the job if they need it.  Cause this is just CRAP, MAN!!!!!!!!!
