#42 and a Little Honesty

On Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), while all MLB players have the option to wear #42; however only one Brewer will be sporting Jackie's number. And he is Prince Fielder. Apparently the team decided only one player would do it. While Prince seems like an obvious choice since he is African-American and one of the leaders of our team, according to Barry Bloom the team picked his name out of a hat.

We'll never be able to truly understand what Jackie and the others that followed him in baseball (and other sports) endured during their playing days, but we can all agree it went far beyond what your average player (or person) should ever experience in the course of doing their job. That being said, there's a quote from Prince in the article linked above which impressed me:

"It's pretty cool, what [Robinson] did, what he had to go through, I couldn't have done it. You guys know my temper. I'm glad he was able to do it for me, so I didn't have to deal with that."

Just another sign Prince is maturing and the kind of player (besides the obvious baseball reasons) we'd like to have around long term...Boras permitting.
