2010 LSU Basketball Recruiting Class - Andre Stringer
With the basketball program starting out 0-10 in the SEC, it begs the question, "How long will it take to rebuild?". LSU's 2010 recruiting class is ranked 12th by ESPN and features 4 signees with the possibility of a 5th if point guard commitment, K.C. Ross- Miller, signs as expected sign. Today, I'll focus on the other point guard in the class, Andre Stringer.
Stringer is a 5'9, 170 pound point guard who can dunk with ease and has range out to half court. The Jackson, Mississippi star also had scholarship offers from Alabama and USCe. Rivals rates him as a 4 star and the 93rd ranked overall prospect (22nd among point guards) while Scout rates him as a 3 star and the 27th best point guard. On ESPN Insider, he is ranked as the 67th best prospect overall and 13th among point guards. While his small stature could be an issue defensively, his shooting ability and athleticism could make him an immediate contributor.
From this video and others available on pay sites, what stands out is his athleticism and ability to catch and shoot as well as pull up and knock down a big shot. What isn't shown is whether he can penetrate the lane and create opportunities. In fact, one of the criticims has been that penetrating in a half court setting only gets him in trouble. At this point in his career, he seems more likely to be used in a similar way as Darrel Mitchell and would be a much welcomed scoring threat. This could possibly be why Coach Trent Johnson is going after an additional point guard in Ross Miller.

Alleva Gives Les a Vote of Confidence
Every year, athletic directors and head coaches evaluate their programs, making whatever adjustments are necessary to stay on top of the game. I am personally committed to working with Coach Miles to evaluate and improve all aspects of our football program to keep us strong and competing for championships. LSU had a nice season in 2009 with nine wins and a New Year's Day bowl game. On the other hand, being "nice" is not our annual goal. We intend to contend for - and win - championships at LSU.
"When we've got a quarterback who can run," Curran said, "we look at that as an opportunity to get a hit on him and hopefully put him out of the game."
