Unforgivable: The 2008 Detroit Tigers

Reading "Year in Review" stuff; a reminder of the expectations, the star players, the big moves, etc., my anger with this team is overwhelming. I'll never get over what that sorry-***, pathetic bunch of losers did this past year; I'll never forgive them. Never. I couldn't sleep waiting for this season to start, I invested so much in this team emotionally (and a decent yet-not-overwhelming amount financially as well.) They turned their backs on their fans, who have packed that beautiful ballpark for the last two years and have gotten little to nothing in return (The World Series doesn't count, as it was one of the most revolting displays of futility in recent baseball history.)

And in spite of everything that went wrong, they're not doing anything to improve!? The response to investments gone bad is not to not invest, it's to make smart investments; Such as PITCHING, both starters and relievers!? Nope; no changes, and as such no improvement. I've got to sit back for the next three months and listen to our IDIOT GM tell us "I don't think we'll be major players in free agency", "Edwin Jackson has great potential", "Fernando Rodney can be our closer", "We're a team full of stars", etc. while our delusional manager says "We're not too far from being back in the thick of things", "We have a very good team", "Look what the Rays did last year." That's not a valid comparison Jim; the Rays have young talent up the wazoo, your team is old, lazy, unmotivated, and most of them are as full of **** as you.

You positive pollyana's can feed me your **** about how it was "just a bad year", they "underachieved", "we still love our Tigers", "they'll be sweet next year!", 'cause I'm not joining your ranks. I deal in the realm of logic, not idealism, and there is no logical way to explain a Tigers' turnaround next year; pure idealism. I refuse to support this team. I badmouth them every chance I get. They're lucky they've got the Lions, the only team in town people are passionate about, to "outshine" (how's that for an oxymoron) them as the most pathetic team in town. I am nothing short of disgraced to be a fan of the Detroit Tigers.

Go Wings and Pistons, the teams that won't disappoint me.

Are you serious Jim?

It is getting maddening listening to Jim Leyland talk about how the team already has plenty of "resources" to be successful, the team as presently constructed isn't far from contending, and no major signings should be anticipated. The team as presently constructed will do as poorly next year as they did this year, potentially worse. This nucleus is not even close to a contending team, not even close. They have shown us no reason to be optimistic for next year. They need an entirely new bullpen, a complete culture change with the pitching staff, and more speed. They are a one-dimensional offensive team with the worst pitching in baseball, and that won't change without tapping into the free agent market.
