Here is an updated version of the Halos' 5-year forecast. It's basically the same info you would find at Cot's Baseball Contracts, but broken down by position and color-coded. Green - Player is under full-team control Gray - Arbitration Year Yellow - Under Major League contract Italics - Option Year where green is a club option, gray is mutual, and yellow is player. I used my best judgment for prospect ETAs. If I'm missing a notable player, or I'm off-base on a particular player, let me know so I can make the adjustments.
While browsing the list of players that were non-tendered on December 12th I came across a name I recognized from my high school playing days. This former top prospect is a free agent and could...
My sister has a friend that is an artist. He used bleach to create this image on a t-shirt. It's a little bit Affliction-y but I still love it. A small "34" is bleached on the back just below the collar.
Halos reportedly asking about Iannetta... Rox inquire about Chatwood. Notes: Coming off a very nice year, Iannetta has a career 101 wRC+ which would have been good for 10th best among full time catchers in 2011 (400+ PA). For those that aren’t completely familiar with wRC+, that is a park-adjusted stat. He is set to earn $3.55MM this season and has a $5MM club option for 2013. However, he can void that option if traded.
If the O's don't want to pay Luke Scott ~$6MM to come back and DH there could be a fit here. Abreu and Chatwood for Guthrie?
Fangraphs recently released Bill James' projections for the 2012 season. Check out what he has to say about the Halos after the jump.
I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the free agents that have been discussed here at Halos Heaven and break them down individually to assess their market value. Read more about the...
Looks like they are going to give him a look at the hot corner.
Our hopes to deal Vernon to the bay for Zito just took a big hit.
A jack-off Ranger fan celebrates a little too soon... That's gotta hurt. No seriously, I heard getting that shit removed really hurts.
First Female GM in Baseball History?
I've put together a re-organized version of the salary spreadsheet you will find at Cot's Baseball Contracts. Rather than sorting by salary I have broken it down by position which makes it a little easier to see where the Halos stand at each position over the next half decade. - Green indicates a player under full team control. - Gray indicates an arbitration year. - Yellow indicates a player under a major league contract. UPDATE: Added a few prospects mentioned in the comments as well as the bullpen.
Heilman has posted a garbage ERA just south of 7 this season, but his peripherals suggest a heap of bad luck. Heilman is sporting .360 BABIP, 66% Strand Rate, and 20% HR/FB.; all of which you'd think are unsustainable. Meanwhile his K's are up (8.41 per 9) and walks are down (2.8 per 9) all good for a sub-3.50 xFIP and SIERA. There are some red flags, however. Heilman's velocity is noticeably down, as is his ground ball rate. He might not be worth a sign, but he seems worth a look, if nothing else to block the Rangers.
Mike trout is a Top Angels prospect headed to the major leagues. Let's calculate his minor league performance into major league performance.
There are a handful of topics I have been wanting to write about but a busy work schedule has kept me out of the Fanpost arena for a few months. Rather than clog up your sidebar with various posts,...
Looks like a very good chance of rain tonight in Chicago. If the game ever starts it seems like it has a good chance of going into an extended rain delay at some point. Obviously, this would likely knock Weaver out of the game... If you're Scioscia, do you consider starting Chatwood tonight on 4-days rest so you don't waste a start from Weaver in the event a rain delay knocks him out of the game? If Weav can only go a couple and the pen has to pitch a ton of innings tonight, and then again tomorrow in what will likely be a short outing by Chatwood, the pen could be really taxed two games into a tough road trip. Starting Chatwood would allow Weaver and Haren to go back to back Sat and Sun and give the pen a break before the trip to Texas as well as reset the rotation back to Weaver, Haren, Ervin etc. Just a thought. The downside would be if Weav goes tomorrow he wouldn't be able to go in the series finale at Texas on Weds.
Not getting behind this idea 100% but if pineiro isn't back soon I'd much rather pay the league minimum for this innings eater than run kaz out there every five days..
Hank Conger getting the start behind the dish tonight according to Rojas' tweet. Change? In other news, Kendreezy appears to be making progress: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/777/kendrys-morales
Ranger Fan predicts playing time this season. With Napoli getting about 30% of the starts behind the plate, 10% at DH, and 5% at 1B... He's only due for about 315 PAs this year... No love...
I thought this was pretty funny coming off the heels of my article a couple days ago...
Like many of you, I've had my fingers crossed for a Scott Kazmir rebound season. After all, he started working out earlier this off-season, is no longer battling injuries, and has had months to...
Gordon has moved to the OF recently but I'm sure he could still play 3B.. Royals are looking for a catching prospect in return. I hope Tony doesn't send Conger packing in exchange for this has-been/never-will-be..
I caught a glimpse of Hot Stove this afternoon and there was a bit on the Texas Rangers. Mitch Williams made an observation on Brandon Webb that doesn't bode too well for Webb/Texas. The most recent reports on Webb were that he was playing long toss at 200 feet. Williams pointed out, and anybody that has pitched before knows, that long toss should be a free and easy throwing motion that allows a pitcher to stretch out and strengthen the arm before getting on the mound and throwing bullpens. Video footage of Webb throwing at 200 feet showed him with not only a slight hitch in his throwing motion, but wincing in apparent discomfort/pain with each throw. Williams pointed out that this is a bad sign for a pitcher that plans to face major league hitters in 6 weeks and I tend to agree. As a former pitcher that had a collegiate career derailed by shoulder issues, I feel for Webb. I don't like to see anyone miss time or possibly end a career due to an injury, but as an Angels fan, I guess it's better Webb than one of our guys. Knock on wood. Should be interesting to see what Webb can bring to the mound this year.
Looks like Izzy might be the every day 3B afterall..
Erick Aybar's breakout 2009 season was largely BABIP-driven. However, perhaps there were other factors that contributed to his stellar campaign that the young short stop actually has control...
Do the Bill James numbers-crunching for the AL West in 2011 look good for the Angels?
I've been pretty easy on the FO compared to most this offseason... but if Vernon Wells' contract prevents Arte from installing these bad boys throughout the stadium I'm going to lose it..
In what is expected to be a tight race for the American League West crown; a move at the trade deadline may be in order to get the Halos over the hump and back into the post-season. This article...
