I began going to Tiger Stadium in 1983 and fell in love with the Tigers, I suffered through the many many bad years, including 2003 when it felt like they had won the world series when they took 3 of 4 from the Twins to end the season with 119 losses. I distinctly recall Darrell Evans getting picked off 3rd in the 1987 ALCS. I still cringe at the names of Craig Paquette, Dan Miceli, Randy Smith, and of course Juan Gonzalez (not to mention all of the failed draft picks). I will be forever greatful to Dave Dombrowski and Jim Leyland for bringing back the roar. I was too young in 1984 to realize what I was seeing, and continue to hope every year that I will see another title in Motown. I believe the Tigers made the right move trading John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander, as they wouldn't have gotten past the Yankees and BlueJays without him. And I consider it one of the great injustices that Lou Whitaker didn't make it past the first ballot for the Hall of Fame.
