I began going to Tiger Stadium in 1983 and fell in love with the Tigers, I suffered through the many many bad years, including 2003 when it felt like they had won the world series when they took 3 of 4 from the Twins to end the season with 119 losses. I distinctly recall Darrell Evans getting picked off 3rd in the 1987 ALCS. I still cringe at the names of Craig Paquette, Dan Miceli, Randy Smith, and of course Juan Gonzalez (not to mention all of the failed draft picks). I will be forever greatful to Dave Dombrowski and Jim Leyland for bringing back the roar. I was too young in 1984 to realize what I was seeing, and continue to hope every year that I will see another title in Motown. I believe the Tigers made the right move trading John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander, as they wouldn't have gotten past the Yankees and BlueJays without him. And I consider it one of the great injustices that Lou Whitaker didn't make it past the first ballot for the Hall of Fame.

Rockies DFA Grilli

According to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post the Rockies designated pitcher Jason Grilli for assignment to make room for reliever Matt Daley. Grilli has an unusual line so far this year. In 19.1 innings he has 22 strikeouts, but he's allowing over two baserunners per inning.

Bless You Boys Jurrjens/Galarraga

Let's say for a moment that the Jurrjens/Renteria trade never happens.  I wonder if Dombrowski would have still tried to get Galarraga from Texas.  I know you can never have too much pitching, so maybe, but it would seem that Jurrjens would have allowed for the depth behind the major league rotation that Dombrowski got in the Galarraga deal, either by pushing a potential major leaguer, like Miner, maybe, down to Toledo, or by starting the year there himself.  I do realize we are speaking in hypotheticals, but if the answer is that Galarraga would still be in Texas, then I like the Jurrjens deal a lot more than I did.

I think its easy to look at one trade and make a decision based soley on the players involved, but I would have to assume that one roster more begets another, and perhaps, perhaps, the Galarraga deal never happens if not for the Jurrjens deal. Just a thought.

Bless You Boys That feeling of impending doom

Watching Jackson pitch last night was wonderful, every pitch had a purpose and was spotted perfectly until the 8th, That being said, all of the good feelings quickly vanished as soon as the Scutaro grounder got through.  I could feel it coming, the same feeling that I had far too many times last season was back.  Lyon looked shaky at best before Hill even came to the plate, and watching that spinning curveball float to the inner third of the plate, I knew it would be trouble.  In that moment, the floor fell out from under me.  Inge comes through in the 9th to restore hope, but then I see Lyon come out for another inning and no one warming behind him... I hope I'm wrong, but it feels like a looong year is coming again.  The realist would say that there is still 160 games left and that Lyon will straighten out, but you cannot waste efforts like the one Jackson gave.  You have to win that game.
