Odd Makers: Is Mills a lame duck coach?
The Bovada Sports Book has just named our fearless leader a 5/1 odds of getting fired this season. No, he isn't in first place with the best odds to get fired. That distinction goes to the Padres' manager Bud Black at 3/1. But Mills does come in second and with 190 something loses in only two years at the helm, it makes sense why he would appear so high on this list. Now, I along with you guys, understand Mills hasn't been dealt a fair hand yet and really hasn't been handed a team with much talent. While he has had some questionable managerial calls, I chalk that up to inexperience and growing pains of a new manager. Personally, I like Mills and think he is a great fit for our club house. He has always been heralded as a great communicator and I feel that is especially important when dealing with a young team like the Astros will be fielding this year and probably next year. Also, I hope he is granted another year because he spent so much time in the AL, I think he could help greatly during this transition.
I really feel it would be a great loss for the Astros at this point, or any point during the season to dismiss Mills. Give him a talented team, not the most talented team the worst farm system can provide, and if he falls on his face, then give him the boot. But until then, it's kind of unfair to really judge him. Well, that my two cents. What say you guys?
NFL Players on the 'Stros?
Look, I know it's a long shot (read: it will never happen) but just humor me here. With the NFL lock out mess, some players are looking to other sports. Chad Ocho-cinco recently worked out for a MLS team. Chris Johnson said he would go to track if there was no football. And we have seen in the past players playing both sports. So my question is what current NFL player would you most like to see in an Astros uniform? Don't forget to include what position they would play.
I'll go first. Being a homer, I would like to see Andre Johnson playing the outfield. Just think of how much ground he could cover, his vertical leap and how many home runs he might turn in to a leaping catch at the wall. Plus, the dude is a man-amal and I'm sure he could tear the cover off the ball.
4 UW Football players in a car accident.
4 University of Wyoming football players were involved in a car accident this morning. Two are ok, one was taken by life flight, and the final one has passed away. Its a sad day for UW fans everywhere.

"The Boss" had died
I know this isn't 100% related to the Astros but George Steinbrenner has passed away at 80. May he rest in peace.
It's been 27 years...
1983. The year my older brother (and his wife) was born. Also, the same year the Astros got off to a horrible 0-9 start. I decided to joke around with my brother and tell him I knew the reason for the horrible start. The illogical reasoning I gave him was it is all his fault. His wife just gave birth to their first born this morning, a little girl, and I was blaming his coming into the world and her coming into the world as the reasons why the 'Stros are off to such horrible starts in their years of birth, respectably. And to mess with him even more, I decided to justify myself as a good luck charm as I was born in 1986 and they were so close to going to the World Series that year. I told him I better get on producing an offspring soon to turn this mess around. He just laughed quietly as to not wake the baby or his wife from their much needed sleep. I decided to let him go as he also needed to get some sleep.
If you are still with me, don't worry, there is a point to this and hopefully a little bit of logical thinking. I'll let you be the judge of the latter. Anyways, they say history repeats itself, well they might just be right in this case as a three game set with the cards might put us back in that same old hole. But have no fear. When history repeats itself, good things can happen and this just might be our year.
Quick question about Meyers, Lyon and Lindstrom
I dont remember it being discussed very much on here yet. What would you guys think about moving Meyers to the closer role if Lyon and Lindstrom completely flop? He has experience back there and might not be a bad stop gap. And while it shutters me to think it, we do have Moehler who could be a serivcable 5th from time to time. Now something like this would worry me greatly because I think we all agree that Norris and Paulino are unproven and will more than likely need to skip a few starts in order to maintain a healthy full season. And that is where Moehler would be perfect for the long reliever/spot starter role. But you cant predict the future. All you can do is hope for the best while preparing for the worst. So, what do you think about a situation like that?
