I’m a 30-something hoops fan and currently live out west with my husband and daughters.....my three perfect humans.

I’ve found that blogging about my favorite sports teams and interacting with my fellow fans that way has made me an even better fan, it keeps me super informed, and, not to mention, it’s a hell of a lot of fun, too.

2010 NBA Mock Draft Talk

Patrick Patterson and Beatboxing

+

If you like Patrick Patterson, and I know you do, click on the above link to listen to a short clip that contains his attempt at beatboxing. I fully admit to knowing absolutely nothing about the term "beatboxing" until I ran across this clip, but apparently beatboxing is yet another thing on the long list of things that our dear sweet Patrick is quite good at. Go Patrick. Link courtesy of the SB Nation NBA Draft blog: Ridiculous Upside, via Liberty Ballers.

2010 NBA Draft Lottery

29

In case anyone is interested, the 2010 NBA Draft Lottery will be held tonight and it will be televised on ESPN and online at ESPN3.com starting at 8 p.m. ET. You can play the lottery for yourself using the above link and also check out the odds of getting the coveted number one pick (i.e. most likely our very own John Wall) for each of the lottery teams. This little tidbit according to Dave Telep via Twitter: "Spoke with John Wall today. I think it’s the most relaxed and excited I've heard him in a long time. ESPN live w/him tonight." [UPDATE] -- Full 2010 NBA Draft Lottery results can be found here. Results courtesy of the fabulous SB Nation blog: Ridiculous Upside. [UPDATE] -- Andy Katz interviews John Wall after the Washington Wizards win the NBA Draft Lottery.

DeMarcus Cousins' News Conference

2

DeMarcus meets the media one last time while at UK. Among other things, he talked about being a one-and-done, what he needs to do to prepare for the league, what kind of people he will surround himself with going forward and what a good time he had while attending UK. He was asked if he sees himself coming back and being a part of the University and he said "Oh, yeah, I'll be here a lot". He also mentioned that he received "a lot" of marriage proposals and that he will now be getting his driver's license. The presser is about 15 minutes in length, I believe, and all in all, I thought it was really good. DeMarcus was funny, engaging and extremely entertaining, as usual. I will miss him.

96-Team Bracketology Projection

5

This is sort of interesting. I have wondered what the 96-team field might look like in bracket form, and Joe Lunardi breaks down what the 1st and 2nd rounds of a 96-team NCAA Tournament in 2011 could potentially look like in the above link. This is obviously pre-pre-pre-pre season speculation, but Joe has UK in as a 4 seed coming out of the SouthEast Region.

NBADraft.net Latest Mock Draft

18

This is just one of the many mock drafts out there, of course, but this mock currently lists Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Orton and Bledsoe all going in the first round. There is no way to know for sure about draft order and lottery teams this early, but it's still fun to look at mock drafts and to speculate on where our boys might end up if they all stay in the draft, and which NBA teams we might be watching with newfound interest next season.

Ten Teams to Avoid When Bracket-Picking

+

No, UK didn’t make this list, and obviously this is just one or a few people's opinion and shouldn’t be taken totally to heart, but I thought this list was interesting. Florida making the list didn’t really shock me and actually made me smile as I didn’t see them making the field in the first place and I pretty much expected to see Purdue on this list, but some of these teams totally surprised me.

SEC Men's Basketball Tournament Schedule

7

Since UK is the outright SEC regular season champion this year (Yay!), it looks like we will play our first game against the winner of the South Carolina/Alabama game on Friday, March 12th at noon CST. Also, it looks as if the Tourney will be televised on the SEC Network and ABC. GO 'CATS!!

Forde Minutes -- Around College Hoops

4

If you don’t particularly care for Pat Forde you might not appreciate this, but if can get past the fact that this is Pat Forde’s writing and thoughts, well, some of his minutes for this week are pretty funny and while he does delve into the world of college hoops as a whole in the linked article, what really caught my eye in this piece originally was that in some capacity, UK is mentioned in 5 of his top 40 minutes of the week. In one portion of the article Forde replaces certain Olympic events with an appropriately relating person or team from around college hoops. For example, he compares Kansas basketball players with hockey players (I thought that one was funny), puts our own John Wall in as a speed skater (that one is pretty obvious), and also suggests that "North Carolina coach Roy Williams (14) would feel right at home in the kiss-and-cry area adjacent to the figure-skating rink." Now tell me, is that not funny, and so true? And, of course, there is more.

Yahoo Sports – Kentucky Growing up Fast

1

Good read from Jason King at Yahoo Sports. "Still, at the end of the day, most of the second-ranked, one-loss Wildcats are a bunch of immature, free-spirited 18- and 19-year-old kids". That is true, of course, but those same kids are also providing us fans with a great number of lovely long-lasting memories. Our youngsters are head-scratching at times, sure, but sometimes I find the innocence of youth quite refreshing.

Coach Calipari's LSU Post-Game

17

I’m sure most of you have already heard Coach Calipari’s LSU post-game comments, but if not, here is the video courtesy of John Clay. In the post-game comments Coach remarks that "It’s not his fault he’s so big" when referring to DeMarcus Cousins and what is the unfair way (unfair to me, anyway) he is being treated by opponents. I thought that comment by Coach was really interesting and so true. It’s so often that we hear about the "little kid" getting picked on, but in this instance it’s the opposite and it’s a case of the "biggest kid" being picked on by his peers. Just to give some perspective on exactly how big DeMarcus is, I thought it would be interesting to note that he is roughly the same size as 22-year-old Lakers center Andrew Bynum who is currently listed at 7-0, 285. So, DeMarcus is already NBA-size physically and his college competition has absolutely no answer for him body-wise, and when you throw in the fact that he’s also much more mature talent-wise than his age would suggest, well, he’s seen as a complete and total animal by the college opposition and unfortunately they are treating him as such. I don’t know about you, but I’m sure glad DeMarcus Cousins is our animal. To me, a "basketball animal" is fantastic. Oh, and here is DeMarcus’ incredibly entertaining (he's quite funny, I think) post-game interview, as well. It’s definitely worth the 3:11, IMO.

NBA Analyst: Cousins won’t overtake Wall in NBA Draft

+

This is an interesting perspective about the potential NBA draft order of Wall and Cousins. "DraftExpress President Jonathan Givony said he doesn’t believe there’s any chance Cousins will overcome Wall for the top spot."

Calipari has no time for scaredy-Cats

+
"We've got a couple guys playing like they're afraid to lose," said Calipari, again not naming names. "You can't play like that and play for me. When you're open to make a play, you make it. You're not flatfooted."

Wildcats a work in progress

+

Nothing totally new and groundbreaking in this piece, except that Coach Calipari is going to try and instill fear in the players before SEC play, "because if they’re not ready to play, they’ll get beat.", he says.
