Battle Cry

A battle cry is a yell or chant taken up in battle, usually by members of the same military unit. Battle cries are not necessarily articulate, although they often aim to invoke patriotic or religious sentiment. Their purpose is a combination of arousing aggression and esprit de corps on one's own side and causing intimidation on the hostile side. Battle cries are a universal form of display behaviour (i.e., threat display) aiming at competitive advantage, ideally by overstating one's own aggressive potential to a point where the enemy prefers to avoid confrontation altogether and opts to flee.

Fanhood always differs with each individual, some are casual fans others are considered the diehard, the Fanattics. Those are the people I'm trying to reach out to and that's what most here at CJ are. I know your all frustrated and talks of hope have quickly become the blame game and once that starts agruments incite and tempers flare. It makes for a long week of reading here at the Jungle. Nothing here should be taken personal and everything with a grain of salt but there's something I just can't get off my mind. Last week like every other we had the opposing team vist, asking questions about our team and how we thought it would play out. Well, it didn't take long before our visitors were back home and guessing how big the blowout would be. Here is just a little from a conversation that they had after their vist and honestly it's embarasing as hell.

Den#1 If the Bengals are as negative as their fans then this will be a blowout.

Den#2 Yeah fans on their SB blog are pretty apocalyptic about this game I was surprised. I hope the Broncos aren't reading any stuff like that. They are a hungry team that could still compete for a playoff spot.

Den#3 Broncos sound like they're taking this game very serious, which is good, as their fans have already given up.

Then it went on a few more post about how someone visited Cincy and a Native told them how much our sports teams suck. Is it just me and my competition streak that's a mile wide but how can someone submitt to defeat before the game has even begun? People making comments before the game about having a feeling we'd pull off the upset only to be followed by a "are you crazy' responce. Hell even one of our writers picked us to lose! Does anyone else believe in Any Given Sunday or the fact that any team can be beat? I see Bengal fans as a team in their own right, battling it out against 31 others and just like the real teams of the NFL there's good teams and bad ones. We might not be able to change the team we root for but we can definitley change the team of fans that we are. We can shake that "bad fan" label by sticking up for our team once in awhile and standing tall on the strengths of our team. Big thanks to the guys that made sure our visitors knew not one man shuts down AJ Green, not even Champ Bailey. 100 yards and a TD later they know it as fact.

Things are tough and we are all frustrated, but the season isn't over and the rest of the games aren't meaningless. Until it's mathematically impossible for the Bengals to make the playoffs we shouldn't count them out. If that day comes than we can still be a thorn in other teams sides. We could possibly knock the steelers out of a wildcard berth or take away the ratbirds home field. Anything is possible! We aren't the worst team in the league by any means, we were a special teams touchdown and a missed field goal away from knocking Denver off their mile high horse. Show a little faith please and lets show those 31 other fan bases that we aren't those same fare weather fans and our Bengals aren't a push over they once were. If a visiting fan asks you about our team answer with something besides "they suck" and try to focus on the positives.

I never expect to lose. Even when I'm the underdog, I still prepare a victory speach. H. Jackson Brown, JR

Most of this was typed up after Sunday nights game and wasn't ever going to be seen by anyone else but after reading about John today I felt inspired to finish it. It might be mixed and jumbled but the point is we can sometimes be better fans regardless of how hard things seem. We need more fans that stand up for our team like John and aren't afraid to voice their opinion because it's positive and not popular. Those fans that would stand behind the Bengals even if they were playing the NFC Pro Bowl team and expect a win all the while screaming our battle cry at the top of their lungs. WHO DEY! WHO DEY! WHO DEY!

Well Bengal fans it's that time of year again where we're days away from the draft. A couple months ago I thought it would be a good idea to see what the fans here at Cincy Jungle thought the Bengals would actually do on draft day with their first 3 picks. And to say the least it's been interesting and educational to see how those mocks and draft guru's have twisted and turned our minds inside out on the who's who of possible Bengal prospects. Never the less not one of us really knows what the Bengals will do on draft day, but it's fun to speculate. So lets get started....

This is part 3 of the Bengals Draft Prediction contest and it's never to late to jump in if you haven't already. After all no one is right till after draft day. Give me the names of the first 3 players the Bengals will select in the order you think they'll select them. Right now those picks are 17, 21, and 53 and if you think they will make a trade that's fine just give me the first 3 player in order. Points have decreased with each post, for example last months (part 2) picks were worth 1.20 2.30 3.40 and this months (part 3) will be 1.10 2. 20 3. 30. I have also thrown in a bonus question worth 25 points and stated in the first post I would have a special question worth more for this post and I do.

The bonus this time will be: Who will be the 4th player selected by the Bengals on draft day? 35 points

For a little break down of how things have changed from the first post to the second. The top voted players in the first post were DeCastro 14, Glenn 10, and Gilmore/Jenkins tied at 9. The last post (part2): Gilmore 15, Glenn 13, Martin 10, and DeCastro with 7.

Also we had 2 people that got the bonus question of what will be the first position that the Bengals will sign in free agency that was not a previous Bengals player. AMAS and Rockhound-11 got it correct by selecting Guard.

If you can rec this so it stays on top so more people can participate it would be appreciated. Good luck and WHO DEY!

Have you had enough mock drafts that you think you may be able to predict what the Bengals will do with their first 3 picks in this years draft? Personally I'm more confused than ever but I'd really like to see what you think or how your picks have changed in this part 2 of 3 draft prediction contest. If you didn't get in on round 1 don't hesitate to jump in here because outside of a few people that got the bonus question correct we're all sitting at 0. As just a quick reminder I'll go over the rules again. This is a 3 part contest were all you have to do is put down the first 3 players you think the Bengals will take in the order you think they'll take them. Right now those picks are 17, 21, and 53 barring no trades. If you think they will make one of the rumored trades that's fine just give me 3 players in order of selection. Points will be awarded for each correct selection with points decreasing the closer we get to April. I will throw in a bonus question just to make things interesting but now I've decided to choose 2 winners, one for over all points and one for just draft pick selection points (unless they're the same person).

Here's a break down of some of the players that got the most votes out of the 34 people that participated. The over all vote getter was DeCastro G with 14 followed by T/G Glenn with 10. CB was a tie at 9 for Jenkins and Gilmore. The RB favorite was Miller with 9 and close behind was Martin with 7.

Now lets see how much the Combine, trade rumors, FA rumors, and teams franchise tags have changed your mind. These picks will be worth 1=20 2=30 3=40 and bonus question=25

The bonus this month will be: Tell me the position of the first Bengals free agent signing that is not a resign, a player that's never been a Bengal. Example if you think it will be Carr then put down CB, M. Williams OLB/DE. I just need the position and if it doesn't happen by draft day it won't count.

Last month these people got the bonus question of SB MVP correct

JimQijk, Rockhound-11, ephram, jimbasa, towery10, James Schmid the great

Also if you could be so kind to rec this so it stays on top and around for more people to participated i would really appreciate it. Thanks for playing and WHO DEY!!!!

With it being that time of year for all of the die hard football fans out there the draft and who will go where is on the brain. I've seen probably a thousand different ways of how people here at CJ think it will play out for the Bengals on draft day so lets put our draft knowledge or luck to the test in a 3 part player pick'em.

Part 1. put down the first 3 players you think the Bengals will take in the order you think they'll take them. Now this being Febuary and the farthest of the 3 parts away from the draft you will be awarded more points than the next part of this contest. example: pick 1 is 30 pts. pick 2 is 40 pts. pick 3 is 50 pts. Bonus Question worth 25 pts Who will be the Super Bowl MVP?

Part 2. Will be the same as the first but I'll post it around the 1st of March so the combine will be over and we'll have a better idea of what those picks might be. Now since we're closer to draft day the points for the picks will decrease. example: pick 1 is 20 pts. pick 2 is 30 pts. pick 3 is 40 pts. Bonus Question 25 pts.

Part 3. Same as the first two but I'll post it around the 1st of April so free agency my have really given you a good idea as to who the Bengals will take. Being weeks away from the draft points will be pick 1 is 10 pts. pick 2 is 20 pts. pick 3 is 30 pts. I have a special bonus question for this post and it may be worth more than the previous bonus questions. Good luck!

my picks for an example

1. Jenkins CB

2. Glenn T/G

3. Martin RB

BQ. Tom Brady
