POD's Offseason Open Thread
So it's starting to get a little slow here with nothing really going on in the football world, and we've already over-talked about a few topics (Avril...and....well, mostly Avril), so we should have an open thread to talk about whatever. Taboo subjects include:
- Religion
- Politics
- Avril's contract
- Matthew Malek
Let's keep this thread fun, clean, and clever just like I know think we can. Talk about whatever, jokes, Saints bounty, other sports, Lions news, movies, etc... Also rec this so it stays at the top, thanks.

The P.O.D Drunk Tank (Offseason Style)
(This has been a long time coming, sorry)
Cue scary music intro: Odd sounding voice: More than 50 people per day in each state get a severe punishment from. the. LAW. Bum bum bum! The drunk tank. A police officer in Detroit will take a few middle schoolers to see the bad people who break laws. Most of these citizens come from Detroit, Michigan, and thrive off of their beloved Lions. But during the offseason, how do they spend their time? Drinking. Beer. And when they drink their beer, you might find them sticking their genitalia in peanut butter, because they're f*****g nuts. YEEEAAAAHHHH.

So you need to sign a CB...Who is left?
So we lost Eric Wright to Tampa. We weren't going to give him that type of money anyway. But there now is a pretty large void after Chris Houston and Aaron Berry on our depth chart. Unless the Phonz can improve drastically on his coverage skills, or Don Carey makes a big jump, the Lions need another CB, and cheap too. So who is still out there that the Lions should target? (I'll preface this by saying I know that PFF isn't the end all when it comes to CB stats, but they're the best I've seen. Deal with it.)
P.O.D. open thread #2
So in wake of the recent events regarding the Saints( this shit is getting crazy ) I thought we should put up another open thread to talk about random stuff again. This would be the place to talk about the stuff going on with the Saints or anything else going on with just about anything. No politics, religion, and don't be a douche.
Anyone know how the league found out about this Saints stuff anyway?

The 2nd (Inaugural?) Pride Of Detroit Awards Ceremony
(Ed. note: Bumped to the front page.)
First off, sorry for the wait. I had some free time on my hands at first to do the voting post, but then my weeks got hectic with school. Anyway, welcome to the second Pride of Detroit awards ceremony! This year, I will be your host, and I will try to do my best to have this year's ceremony be just as good as last year's. We had some good battles this year, so thanks to everyone that made this year at POD just as good as last year! Let's get to the results.

The 2nd Inaugural Pride of Detroit Mock Election
Hey guys, since Mavyrk's been busy, I asked if I could take over the inaugural POD election and ceremony. I will do my best to keep up the tradition started by Mav. We're going to have elections today for a variety of different awards, some that were given out last year, some are new to this year. I've changed some of the names as well to accommodate to the NFL this year. Vote for your choices after the jump! And remember, this is all in good fun.
The first part of the mock election will be more about the posters on this site, while the second half will be more of the posts on the site.

P.O.D. open thread #1
Technically for the Lions, it's the offseason, so I figured we'd start up these offseason open threads again so people can talk about whatever they want. No talk about religion, politics, etc... and don't be a douche. Those are my only rules. Looks like the Tigers just signed Prince Fielder for *9* years...*9*. Talk about a power combo of Fielder and Miggy. Anyway, have at it, and keep it Fairley clean!
Also, rec this if you guys want it to stay around for longer.

Let's seriously take a look at this
I've been hearing many differentiating opinions on the O-line recently. Most agree on a couple of things: Backus has regressed, but might have another year on him, Raiola has been below average, and Peterman needs to go. The jury is out on Gosder, and most seem to like Sims. Yes, there are other opinions, but these are the ones I'm hearing the most. I took it upon myself to research this, and here's what I've found.
Gos been arguably our best guy on the O-line, maybe sans Sims. I don't get the hate against Gosder. He's cut down on the penalties drastically too.
Rushing (easily our worst offensive statistic) to the right (Peterman and Gos' side) had yielded 17 10+ yard runs which is 13th in the league. Not awesome, but above average. They've only allowed 9 rushes for negative yardage, tied for 3rd BEST in the league.
Dom has been below average at run blocking this year. He's 8th in the league with 14 10+ yards runs, and tied for 16th for allowing negative runs. This factors in Sims and Peterman though, so they've helped out. However, in total, the middle runs rank 28th in the league.
The surprising statistic is the left side. Backus and Sims have allowed only 9 rushes of 10+ yards on the season. The negative rushes are low, but that means that basically running to the left side has been extremely mediocre.
So Gos and Peterman have been our best run blockers this year. Considering how much we suck at running the ball, it would not be a good idea to get rid of Gos. Backus has been our worst run blocker according to the stats (which I got here. Or you could look here, and it says the same thing (look at the second graph for the individual positions). It's not saying that Gos is GOOD at run blocking, but he's certainly been better than Dom and Backus.
But once again, the line has been above average together at pass blocking, ranking 11th in the league. Backus has been (statistically) awful. He ranks 29th in the league in pass blocking efficiency (through the first 13 games, although he's been better in the last 3). Dom has been above average in pass blocking according to PFF, grading out at a +4.8, so I'll give him that. Peterman has been 9th best among ALL Guards in the NFL in pass blocking. Rounding up, Sims has been 14th best, and Gos has been 27th. I got these stats from Pro Football Focus.
Basically what I'm saying is this: Dom gets punished in the run game and holds up decently in the pass game, but so does everyone else on our line. Gos has been our best run blocking lineman, and is average in pass blocking. Backus has been worse than Gosder has been in both categories. So if you're going to call for someones head, it certainly shouldn't be Gosder's. Another fun fact: Peterman has been our best pass blocker, and paired with Dom and Gos, has been just as good in the run game. Think about that when you call for his head next time.
I know some of grading out the O-line comes from the eye test, I get that. But eye test IMO = Backus(gone) Sims(stay) Dom(long gone) Peterman(stay) and Gos(stay). I've held the opinion that Dom needs to go first and foremost for awhile now. I know the O-line is always a touchy opinionated subject, but what else are we going to discuss until Sunday? I'd really like to hear everyone else's opinions on this throughout the week.
Last, but not least, I think these next couple of games could be really telling. Who steps up in the playoffs could be a deciding factor in who week keep, considering we should expect to be in the playoffs for years to come.
POD Open Thread #3
The other open thread got knocked off the rec'd section, so it's time for another one. The NBA has started up again (who really cares), and the Lions have made the playoffs (WOOOOOO). F*ck Mark Sanchez may be getting the axe at NY, how fun would that be? Anyway, this is your thread to talk about whatever you want, besides religion or politics. As always, don't be a douche. Have fun with this thread, guys and gal, and keep it Fairley clean.

Game Day Threads Best (Mutha F***ing PLAYOFF edition)
Well, not quite playoffs yet, but we made it. Merry Christmas Lady and Gentlemen, we got our wish for a Lion's victory, and we had a great game thread to show for it. So without further adieu, here is your game threads best comments...
1st Quarter:
This is my most anticipated game in a long time
I feel like a 16 year old virgin on prom night.
-Wayne Fontes
There's no better way to put that. I couldn't sleep the night before, and not because of Christmas coming early. I certainly remember my first prom, but it was nothing compared to seeing my Lions get into the playoffs for the first time that I can remember.
Think about the NFC North
Luck, Stafford, Cutler, Rodgers
Not thinking of that but I will ponder it
-Wayne Fontes
Mr. Fontes starting off nice. I know there's plenty of Ponder jokes out there, but this was in the heat of the moment too, and it's Christmas, so get off my back.
Oh my
Cardinal player fell down on fourth down wide open in the end zone, Incomplete.
I had the wild wings guy turn on the sprinkler
-Wayne Fontes
Fontes on a ROLL so far. That commercial is horrendous though. Does nobody in watching the game know that the sprinklers are on? Like, come on. That's unrealistic. It would never happen....but it did.
2nd Quarter:
Durant is bringing the wood
You "beat" me to it
-Thelionnsareking
Ok, ok. I added the "quotes," but it looks so much better with it. Wood, beat....beat, wood. If you don't get it by now...
Stafford set the single-season Lions record for passing yards on that TD
-Sean Yuille
I just love the way that sounded. In his 3rd year, he's broken so many (all?) of the Lion's quarterbacks records. It's a sight to behold, and he's OUR QB.
Grew gets his weekly hurdle
-Kazilla
We need to keep a Pettihurdle count for next season. I vote Kazilla keeps track. Done.
I called it 9 to 81=6
-Thelionsareking
I do love that combination. If I'm not mistaken, that combination's TD yesterday broke another long-standing Lion's record. So kudos, lionsareking.
You know it's your day when
Harris is threatening to get a pick.
-Joshsun
Amen to that. Not only was our offense unstoppable, our D was equally up to the challenge. They stifled Rivers, and without a pass rush...
That awkward moment....
When you can't even bust a run against four guys
-Mavryk
Ugh, we know, Mav, we can't run....we suck at opening up holes (twss) etc... Wait, we were talking about the Lions, right?
Smart time out our D needed a rest they were out there for a whole minute
-Wayne Fontes
Fontes is on a ROLL! Nothing much to say here, cause it was so true.
If you're Norv, what kind of halftime adjustments do you make?
Flight plans, lol
-Yooperlionfan
Yeah, there were a lot to choose from, but Yooper was first with the witty remark, so he gets the points.

Game Day Thread's Best
Another week, another crazy game thread. You all know the drill by now, I pick out the best/funniest comments on the game threads and put them all together here. Here they are. As an added bonus, I'm going to add the names as well, and see who had the "best" game thread comments.
1st Quarter:
<!--StartFragment-->
Harris definitely grabbed Bush's nuts
Nate D.
I don't know if he noticed this one, but this could be used on a variety of different levels. Harris...Bush...Nuts... I'll let you go from there.
<!--StartFragment-->
Is Pac-Man available?? Or is he in jail
· sorta... he is a Bengal
JCruize
Oh, stereotypes.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->Oh, sweet, an ad for the fucking Keystone Pipeline
· ...and Paula Creamer, with her extremely suggestinve name
Nate D.
Besides the spelling mistake, Nate's got the lead here with a very astute observation. Creamer... I think Profiler went to Google her last name after this...I could be wrong though
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->GOD IM SO FUCKING TIRED OF THE GODDAMN DRAW PLAY
Nate D.
Me too, buddy. Me too.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->Wow...Thom...
Did you realize you just complimented Suh?
akadwriter
Ahh...Our first "These announcers suck" comment. One point for you.
2nd Quarter:
<!--StartFragment-->
CJ you are a man among boys!
· Correction:
he is a robot among boys. A huge, scary-ass robot.
Motown313
Amen to that. Probably why he's called Megatron.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->Houston would have done more damage
if he placed his fingers on the side of his helmet and willed him to fall
Wayne Fontes
Right after Houston gave up the long TD to Heyward-Bey. That really was a pathetic attempt at a tackle. Luckily, he's got an excuse, as he wasn't up to 100% for the game.
I still wanna see Suh block some kicksKazilla
.........................well....major points to you, sir

Game day Thread's Best
Haven't been doing these lately, but yesterday's game was pretty intense, so I figured I'd start these up again. Here's the best comments of the game threads.
1st Quarter:
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->Damn, I thought it would be a 49-10 game. I’m not feeling good about them getting 10.
Oh how times change so quickly...At the beginning of this game, it did seem likely that the score would end up as such, but we all know how it finished. Phew.
<!--StartFragment-->
Phonz INT leads to a Titus Touchdown
I promise I am laughing on the inside
We know, Profiler, we know. You secretly had a boner as well. I think we're all glad you were right so far about Phonz, though. Let's hope he can keep it up.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->Struck fear into the hearts of opposing defenses
Oh, the days where we had to semi-rely on Dennis Northcutt and Bryant Johnson to catch passes. I think the name Culpepper was also thrown around in this conversation, and that makes me cringe. Thank God for Stafford, Johnson Burleson and Titus now. Let's move on.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->
I loled at this one for awhile. Avril was playing lights out for the whole first quarter. Ponder got lit up more times than a joint at a Reel Big Fish concert, and Avril was the main benefactor.
2nd quarter:
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->The big question: Who's having the better game? Phonz or Cliff?
Both Phonz and Avril were having huge games, but I think it was obvious that Ponder was also having a huge game. For us.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->DID ANYONE HEAR THAT SICK RHYME
“Nice tackle from don carey, a replacement in the secondary, for the injured aaron berry.”
awesome.
Quite possibly the only good thing the announcers said the entire game, and I'm 100% sure that he didn't mean to say it either. It did provide for some good laughter during the 2nd quarter though.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->He’s trying to establish the run now.
As sad as it may be, it also is the truth. Without Best or Smoove, we can't really move the ball on the ground. Linehan's gotta find another way to move the ball.
<!--StartFragment-->
<!--EndFragment-->"any team that turns it over a lot will lose a lot" brilliant analysis Strahan
John Madden, is that you? Although this turned out not to be very true, it was a hilariously obvious statement by Strahan at the time.
Second half after the jump...

Can we bring these back? P.O.D. open thread
Not trying to step on any toes here Enforcer, but I always liked these open threads. I know they started in the offseason cause there was hardly anything to talk about, but we have some great personalities here, and I just enjoy talking to (some)of you guys. So if you guys want to, here's an open thread for talking about whatever you want. The only rule: Don't be a douche bag. I think that's self explanatory. Have at it!
NFL week 14 power rankings
I'm not one to bitch and complain about power rankings. I am one to laugh and guffaw at them though. These rankings are pathetic. Some laughable teams above the Lions include: Broncos, Titans, Bengals, Cowboys, and Raiders.
LOL.
Ask P.O.D: Take 2
Hello there, Vikings fans. Our teams take the field again on Sunday, with some big changes to both of our teams since the last time we faced off. We'll be here to take your questions about almost anything Lions related, and I'll answer a few right now, even before you ask(which I know everyone will want to ask).
Most of the fan base is ashamed of what Suh did on Thanksgiving, they feel like his suspension is deserved, and we're all tired of talking about it. Believe me, we've had these endless discussions over at P.O.D. for over a week now and nothing gets resolved, let's move on, yeah?
I've always like Florida State football for some reason, so I've been wanting Ponder to succeed this year, and so far it looks like he's been doing just that, and he can only get better. I just hope he has a terrible game this weekend:) My question(and I'm sure this has been brought up a lot): Does your fan base believe he's your QB of the Future? Do you think he can lead you to a Super Bowl?
Anyway, I'm hoping for a solid game on Sunday, and good luck the rest of the season after this game!

Ask Pride of Detroit
Hey Packers fans! This is one of those posts that I would never make over at WCG because I hate them so much and do not care for there opinions on anything. But since the Packers' fans aren't quite as intolerable, well, nobody is as intolerable as Bears fans anyway, I figured I'd make a post for you guys to ask us questions, talk a little smack, etc...
This game is huge for Detroit. Like Jabooty said on our site, this game means more to Detroit than it does to Green Bay. Although it's still a huge game either way. A Thanksgiving day win against our undefeated division rivals would give us a huge boost heading into our last stretch of the season, which is a doozy by the way. I only have one question really...
Is there any way to stop Aaron Rodgers? Seriously, besides sacking him, has anything worked against him? Nobody has really stopped him this year, so I was wondering your take on this.
Anyway, thanks for letting us stop by your site, and may you all have a wonderful thanksgiving!

Group Outing
I know I didn't start this or anything, but I had a few questions about the group outing still and the other post got knocked off the rec'd section so I'd like to start another one to discuss anything else that we may have missed. I had a few questions about parking, and a few questions to Enforcer (because he has my ticket). So if anyone else has any questions here's the place to do it.
So about parking, if anyone knows where the cheapest places to park are, please let me know. I don't mind a 15-30 min walk to be honest if I have to.
Also, Since I'm under 21 (yeah yeah yeah), how the heck am I supposed to get beer in? I guess if someone else doesn't mind meeting me outside I could give it to them, or if the security is lax about it I'll do it myself.
And Enforcer, give me your email so I don't have to communicate through POD with you, thanks.
If you guys going to the game want to rec this so we can keep talking about it go for it.

Game Day Threads Best
Hey guys, I saw this on another blog and thought it was quite funny, so I'm bringing it here. We all know game day threads can get pretty intense, especially when we're losing, but they also can be hilarious. So I'm going to bring you guys the best of the game threads, and I'll try to do this weekly if you like it. Here goes:
greatest collection of #2 corners ever
This was obviously after the first TD pass by Romo to Bryant, as we saw Houston give up just a little room to him. This quote was in the midst of everyone already ready to shoot themselves or bang their heads on a door knob.
Do the Lions sleep in on sundays?
I got a kick out of this one for some reason. It just seemed so perfect a the time, just coming off a big comeback win in Minnesota and falling behind really early in this game, it did seem that the Lions slept in.
He landed on the right shoulder...And got up…
yak yak yak shoulder yak yak yak
Eat me Ainkman
These two were reactions about the ever so obvious statements that we're bound to hear every game about Staff's shoulder. I particularly like the last one.
A handy flow chart for the second half.Barn + doors = now.
V
Barn + no doors = then.
The voice of reason comes through with a nice little flow chart. Keep this in mind, people.
Is already pissing me off. Anyone notice that in the beg. of the game, he calls Grew “Scheffler”…dude one’s white and the other is black!!! MORON!
true story.
Run you sissy
Figures
Scheffler has real G swag though.
Easy mistake imo.

Ask Lions' Fans: Game 2
Hey Arrowhead Pride, here's your guys' chance to ask us Lions fans about anything you want about the upcoming game. As for me, I have a few questions to ask all of you guys first:
I know most of you guys here don't have the best wishes toward Cassel, but I'd like to know if you think that is your biggest area of need or is it some other position?
Also, I've been wondering this for awhile; do you think that Jamaal Charles puts up those ridiculous stats because of you O-line, or is it just because of his own skill? And do you think that Thomas Jones will keep stealing carries away like last year, or will he stop getting as many touches?
Lastly, who do you think has a breakout year this year? Offense and/or defensively?
And just for fun, where do you think Bowe ranks in WR's? Top ten? 15?
Anyway, thanks for letting a Lions fan into your site and let's talk some football!

Ask Lions Fans: Opening Game
Hey Bucs Nation, only 6 more days to go until our opening game, so I figured that we could kill some time by doing an "Ask a ___ fan." I always like doing these because I like to be informed about most every team. So I have a few questions for you guys, and you can ask away too.
First, and I know this is probably an overdone topic here, but what's up with Talib? Is he on any type of suspension or will we be seeing him every game this year?
Second, how do you feel that Freeman will do this year? I've always liked him, and love to see the top QB's of the '09 draft class battle it out. What do you see his stats being like this year?
Third, what player, offense or defense, do you feel will have a breakout year this year?
Thanks for letting a Lions fan into your site, and I hope to see a great game on Sunday.

Ask a Lions' Fan Preseason Edition
I like to do these Ask a ____ fan, especially in the preseason, because it's more speculation, and a lot of differentiating opinions compared to the regular season. So I have some questions for you guys that I'd like to know more about, and then you guys can ask away.
First, I go to Ohio University, so I'm partial to Taylor Price, I wanted the Lions to draft him awfully bad when he came out, but it wasn't meant to be. I saw he had a big first pre-season game, and was wondering how you guys project his season to be this year. Is he going to be a 4th string guy, or could he sneak into a slot role too?
Second, what the heck is up with your RB situation? I know Green-Ellis is the starter (well, I think he is), and Woodhead is number 2? What about Vereen and Ridley? Ridley has been impressive in preseason, and Vereen has been injured, I would just like to know how much do you think they'll be splitting carries between the 4 of them. Thanks in advance! Hopefully we'll see a good game with no injuries!

The P.O.D Bar
*Scene* A beautiful Sunday at 12:30 pm at a bar in Detroit, MI. The Lions are playing the Bucs in the first game of the season. All of the regulars start to pile in for the first rousing Lions game of the season. We zoom in to see the first regular arrive, Sean Yuille.
Bartender: Surprise, surprise. Sean's the first to arrive.
Sean: I don't sleep. Ever.
Bartender: You must use drugs, kid...
Sean(Eyes wide open)(twitching): The Lions are my drug. Links, news, fist pumps....no time to sleep.
*Enter Drewslions*: Hey Sean! How are you buddy?
Sean(mumbling): Lions signed UDFA Billy Greenwood from Georgia Tech. Thursday's practice went well, Fairley back in action....
Drew: Anyway...I really hope that yoohoo Joshsun doesn't show up today. I really don't want another drunken bar fight today, my mom was really pissed last time...Maybe I should take my Jim Schwartz' jersey off....
*Enter Evilsmurf*: You know guys, I don't think Schwartz is a bad coach. You got a minute or 40 to let me tell you why?
Sean&Drew: Uhhhh.....well.....(whispers) maybe KDawg will show up, that'll at least be a litter shorter.
*Door slams in* Enter Profiler(arm around porn star): Hey fellas. Mind if Bree sits with us today?
*Jaws drop*(In unison): No of course not, there's a seat right beside me!
Profiler: Yeah, saw Enforcer outside a few minutes ago and he tried stealing her away, that big ol' slut.
*yelling occurs with some guys at the door*pans in to see Joshsun in a drunken stupor surrounded by multiple guys, all yelling at him.
Josh: All I'm saying is that Schwartz needs to be fired! Wins, wins, wins! We don't have enough. No more aggressive plays from SUH! PAD LEVEL!
*Nate D. enters*: Bro, Josh, you need to chill man. Here, hit this "J" up. Puff puff pass man. Can anyone buy me a drink in this place? Blew all my money on cereal and fruit snacks....
*Davis sneaks out of mens bathroom, hoping nobody notices*: Hey Nate, I'll buy you a drink man.
Nate: Thanks, bro. You're a good man....but why do you smell like piss?
*IAG sneaks out of womens bathroom, hoping people notice*: Why does nobody have mustaches? mus.tach.es. mus.tach.es....
*CLF enters, (carrying only pictures): Mustaches?

Ask a Lion's fan
Someone from here came over the P.O.D and started an "ask a Bengals" fan and suggested that you guys may want to start an ask a Lions fan. So here's your chance to ask any questions for us Lions' fans since we are playing you in our first pre-season game. I'll post this over at P.O.D. and have some more regulars come over and answer your questions. As for you guys, I do have a few more questions that you can answer for me:
Who were your best F.A. pickups this offseason?
How does losing JJ hurt? Especially because you still have a very competent corner in Hall?
How do you expect Andy Dalton to do in his first year?
Thanks in advance for your answers and questions. I'm just glad that we actually have actual football games to talk about and enjoy now. Hope to see you guys have a great upcoming season.

THE Best Thing in the NFL
Welp, sorry for the delay guys, but here's the final result from the championship round:
Super Bowl Sunday DEF Draft Weekend 134-111
I think we all saw this coming, Super Bowl Sunday is the best thing in the NFL, voted by us. It's the closest one can get to a perfect day, especially if our Lions end up playing in the big game (hopefully really soon). I don't have much to say about it other than what's already been said by most everyone who voted for it, so I'll leave it at that. It seems like the lockout is about to be over so we won't be forced into "The Most Mediocre Thing in the NFL." I had a lot of fun doing these games with you guys for the past few weeks and it made the lockout pass a little faster. Now let's get this lockout over with! Go Lions.
The Best Thing in the NFL: Championship Round
