9. Anthony Spencer, DE, Dallas Cowboys: Greg Ellis, who holds the spot Spencer wants, isn't happy because Spencer received first-team reps during offseason work. Ellis should worry about his job. Spencer has the explosive speed off the edge that will be hard to keep on the bench. He will be a long-time companion for DeMarcus Ware.

This is a CBS story I actually copied from Dawgs by Nature. Oooh, they had the whole story in a FanPost.

The article is about 30 players who should have breakout years. Found it interesting what they said about Anthony Spencer.

Even when he was an Eagle, I was impressed that Owens could handle the big DE AND then challenge anybody else in the locker room to a fight.

Man, they made it tough for him to succeed there, didn't they?

Mickey picks T.O.

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?editorialAuthor=1&id=29183252-AEBD-50B3-A5F06795A6281E5D

Hopefully, Mr. Spagnola's history with writing this article will remain a tradition without superstition. Because all he has to do to prove Owens' importance is point you to the end of last year. Offense=Anemic. Romo=Searching for plays. Running Game=Couldn't win games.

Maybe this year will be different. Maybe some WR, or WRs, will force their way on the field. Maybe the offense will be so full of team talent that T.O. will just be the icing on the already satisfying cake. Maybe the new Jones/Barber/Choice combo will win a few with the defense's dominance. Maybe...maybe...maybe....

Mickey does mention other players up for his annual "award"--the newly extended Hamlin (yay!), Witten, Big Flo', T-New, and he eliminates Romo's nomination, citing the fact that any team losing their franchise QB would have a drastic knock on their season. Makes sense.

So what do you guys think? You should know I like polls.

Okay, the new QB doesn't have to come in to beat out Brad;, but for now, someone should come in to compete with him. And although Bartel may have some potential, the Cowboys can't rest their hopes on him should Romo get bumped and bruised.

Unless Mr. Jones and the coaching staff has someone in mind to bring out of retirement in the middle of the season if catastrophe strikes, the Cowboys' shopping list may have some prospects if they look right now.

FanZone Poll on DallasCowboys.com

The current DallasCowboys.com FanZone has a poll asking: "Besides Romo, who's the most dangerous QB in the division?"

Right away, I voted for Jason Campbell. He is dangerous for the Cowboys. The Redskins are dangerous for the Cowboys. I think this current team knows how to get at McNabb and Eli well enough, and has more experience doing so. Although all those teams beat Dallas the last time around, they haven't fared well on a consistent basis, and the '08 Cowboys "D" may be much (shall I say it twice?), much more improved than last year.

So far, in that poll, Campbell is in 3rd out of 3. Can you guys tell me what Cowboys fans are thinking with McNabb and Manning coming in 1st and 2nd, respectively? Campbell has shown ability that can still surprise this defense, and if he performs at a high level, will be around for the foreseeable future (not that Manning won't, but c'mon--he doesn't scare me just because of that touchdown drive before half-time in the playoff game). Pfaw.

If you haven't voted on that poll, do so. And I urge you to give Campbell some consideration. Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, Moss, Randle-El, Cooley and that new USC TE.

Jason Campbell may not throw 4,000 yards next year, but he'll give the Cowboys more headaches in their games than the other QBs in the East.

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">
  <legend>Poll</legend>

Jason Campbell = The Dallas "D's" most feared QB this year?

I agree. Campbell will test these 'Boys the most.

McNabb will be back as the "beast" he used to be.

Eli won a Superbowl. He will be the toughest.

My Response to Mickey's article on Roy

Promoted from FanPosts by Grizz (with a few minor edits).

Bravo, Mickey! Bravo! Your article on Roy Williams is brilliant in the way that you directly address the relationship between the player and the fans. Even with the Romo/Simpson saga, and the Pac-Man trade concerns, and the fear of a disgruntled Greg Ellis, and the Felix vs. Rashard disagreements, and the December/Playoffs slumps, the most passionate topic in Dallas Cowboys fandom continues to accelerate around the what-to-do-with-Roy-Williams debate. Move him to linebacker. No! Take him off 3rd downs. You gotta! Trade him. Not likely! Cut him. Cap $pace! Let him resurrect with Campo. Maybe! Let him change numbers. Sure!

Cowboys fans are having a hard time swallowing the fact that what happened here with Julius Jones seems to be happening with Roy, just on the other side of the ball. Instincts, aggressiveness, passion--all the characteristics that made Cowboys fans "ooh" and "ahh" over their team's former #1 pick--have diminished.

Where is he? Why is he a shell of his former self? Do Tai Streets and Todd Pinkston have to be on the Cowboys schedule for Roy to "show up"? Was he offended the league ruled against his "horse collaring"?

I don't know! I don't know! I don't know! Nobody does! It's frustrating, so I'm sure that's why you (and Roy) hear so much from the fans about his play. We simply don't know what to expect from him. And that's scary.

Do you remember that Monday Night game a couple years back when Dallas was up 13 to 0, and the 'Skins came back with a coupla deep balls to Santana Moss in the 4th quarter to win 14 to 13? That's when it all began for me. That's when my confidence in my favorite Dallas Cowboy began to die. Maybe, his did too.

Anyways, Mickey, thanks for the article. It would be great if Roy can be pumped up by the fans the same way Hulk Hogan was by his Hulkamaniacs. But after hearing Roy's comments about the fans, and just reading the distaste for his play from the various Cowboys' bloggers, I doubt there's anything else the fans can do, but cringe when that deep ball is in the air on his side of the field.

Gruden has to lighten up his load at QB, especially since he drafted another player at that position on Sunday. Rumors during the draft were speculating that Chris Simms wants to move on from Tampa Bay. It didn't hit me until this morning that he would be a really good fit as a backup to Romo. I know Brad Johnson's here, but bringing in Simms wouldn't stop the veteran's progress or anything.

What do you guys think?

Looks like the new ILB starter is Zach Thomas. I liked Fasano -- leads me to believe a TE is coming in the draft, and maybe a promotion for "Touchdown" Tony Curtis.

This trade helped to recover the 4th rounder Dallas gave to Pacman. What's great is that it's the 1st pick in the fourth round! But 2 players for one mid round draft pick?

You guys think that's a good trade? Makes sense to me. Maybe even clear up some cap space.

Where should Dallas draft a NT?

I know the Tank will be back blowing things up, but will Jay Ratliff split time at end? He needs to be on the field as much as possible. This leads me to believe that Dallas will draft a nose tackle somewhere between the 3rd and 5th rounds.

NFLDraftCountdown.com mocks the first three rounds and has the Cowboys picking this guy:

Defensive Tackle | Senior | Iowa St. Ahtyba Rubin
Height: 6-23/4 | Weight: 315 | 40-Time: 5.22

Official Bio

Strengths:
Real strong and powerful...Has excellent bulk..Is stout at the point of attack...Can occupy multiple blockers...Has a terrific motor...Decent mobility and range...Does a fantastic job against the run...Really knows how to use his hands...Still improving.

Weaknesses:Offers very little as a pass rusher...Not very quick or explosive...Needs to improve his technique and play with better leverage...Lacks stamina...Short...Was not very productive and didn't make a lot of plays...Only two years of Division I experience.

Notes:
First name is pronounced "ah-TAH-ba"...Spent two years at a JUCO (Trinity Valley C.C.) where he played both defensive and offensive line...An underrated prospect who doesn't get a lot of attention but will most likely be chosen much higher than people think...One-dimensional run-stuffer...May be a prototypical 3-4 nose tackle.

Career Statistics
