What a classy hard working guy. McFadden loves the game of football.

"The Raiders #1 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, RB Darren McFadden out of Arkansas, arrived in Oakland, Calif., late Saturday night and arrived at the Raiders Alameda, Calif., facility at Noon on Sunday. The Bay Area media had the opportunity to talk with the 4th overall selection in the 2008 Draft in person for the first time.

RB Darren McFadden: I just want to let everybody know I’m very happy to be in Oakland and I’m very glad to be a Raider."

The goal of every down-and-out team is to become less relevant on draft day. The Raiders have done that, but not necessarily in the manner they had wished.

http://www1.pressdemocrat.com/article/20080421/NEWS/947996604/1015/SPORT0502

"A week ago, Chris Long went to Miami with the first pick in Mock Draft 1.0. He could still be a Dolphin on April 26.
But in the world of mock drafts, which started even before the Super Bowl, it's de rigueur to change perspective from day to day and week to week. Teams do it all the time, which is why it's futile to guess until a few days before the draft, when things start to clear up -- a little."

More of the story at: http://www.montereyherald.com/sports/ci_8992296

"All eyes were on the Raiders at this point last year. They had the first pick in the NFL draft and weren't tipping their hand, even if everyone assumed they were intent upon selecting quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
This year, the Raiders have the fourth pick and can't be certain which player they will get in the first round on Saturday. However, they are likely to get a player who'll get a good chance to make an immediate contribution.

That first pick carries added significance this year because the Raiders are without second-, third- and fifth-round picks by virtue of trades they made last year and this offseason. Overall, the Raiders have picks in the first, fourth, sixth and seventh rounds -- with two in the latter round.

"We don't have a lot of picks in the draft," Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said at the NFL owners meeting in late March. "The first pick, obviously, is a significant one, being the fourth overall. Potentially, we could trade down, obviously."

Don't count on that, coach. Raiders managing general partner Al Davis' history is that of someone who trades up in the first round, not down.

Since 1996, the Raiders traded up in the first round so that they could select tight end Rickey Dudley, defensive tackle Darrell Russell, offensive tackle Mo Collins and cornerbacks Phillip Buchanon and Fabian Washington. Not once during that time have they traded down in the first round."

For more on this story: http://www.insidebayarea.com/raiders/ci_9000321

"With five years of futility, an agitated fan base, an aging owner and at least $31 million invested in their franchise quarterback, the Raiders have never been so in need of getting it right. Of positioning themselves to regain lost dignity, as well as the respect they once took for granted"

More on this story at: http://www.insidebayarea.com/sanmateocountytimes/ci_9000317
