Very cool article that adds some more insight to the positional debate. Sadly, Duncan, Parker, and Manu don't show up in any of the charts which would have made it more interesting.

George Hill is the 3rd most prototypical PG by shot selection. RJ IS the prototypical SF by shot selection. Antonio McDyess is the second least typical PF powered by his amazing 64% FG share from 16-23 ft.

Pounding The Rock Challenge: What Was the Spurs Management's Best Offseason Move?

We had so much fun discussing the Spurs draft picks yesterday, I thought I would come up with a new challenge.  The Spurs offseason may appear pretty ho-hum to outsiders and pretty epic to 13 year old Spurs fans who like playing Halo or dudes who work for Nintendo (that's a reference to E3 and the AVGN...yeah, I went there).  This is all about how great our Spurs management is, and taking a step back to look at the moves made this offseason (and some prior) by our FO to keep us a top contender for this season's title.

I think the Challenge is a no brainer in the end, but the field isn't any weaker for it.

Tim Varner writes an interesting piece about the Toros following Hairston's departure to Europe. The conversation in the comments is equally interesting.

I posted this in one of the other ones, but I'm guessing it was deleted because you guys didn't want it to be the place for Spurs discussion. Anyways, here is the roster. I think it is lacking in Toros representation personally when you consider Hairston, Gee, and Jerrells as being under contract in the NBA.

Ryan Richards is under contract in Europe still and can't play.

Pounding The Rock High Caliber: Spurs and NERF

UPDATED 7/8/10

Spurs and NERF are both the class of what they do.  The Spurs are the gold standard in basketball, and NERF (owned by Hasbro) is the gold standard of dart guns.  I'm a huge Spurs fan and a casual toy gun (airsoft, dart, water, cap, rubberband, whatever) collector.  As a mechanical engineer, I appreciate the ergonomic design that goes into most toy guns and also the mechanical design into making them work.  Plus they are a symbol of my childhood and are super cool to play with.  My dogs enjoy fetching darts for me too.

After the Spurs were ousted in the playoffs, I found myself getting addicted to rating things on Amazon to improve the site's recommendations to me.  That is what happens when there is a drought in Spurs coverage online!  This lead to me buying a lot of NERF guns I was missing over the past two months.  I also bought a ton of music as I added 428 songs to Itunes in May and June  (possibly the only stat of this post!).  Stupid Spurs playoff exit .... grumble ... mumble ... void to fill ... grumble.....

After the jump, you will find my comparisons of Spurs players to NERF gun models.  Yeah...you read that right....

I didn't expect him on here, but our 20th pick is #8. With Griffin from last draft being #1, Anderson is ranked ahead of 13 players drafted ahead of him.

I know the link doesn't say that, but I read it on Ridiculous Upside. The link is his DE page.

It's something like 80 games (I didn't count them) that you can watch live or archived. I'm not sure what the full price would be, but $11 seems like a fair deal. Summer League games start July 5th.

Obviously, I have no affiliation with the NBA. I just didn't want anyone interested to miss this when I saw it advertised on NBA TV.

Pounding The Rock Spurs Summer League Roster Speculation

First, Tim C. fanshot'ed our summer league schedule, and then TDzilla! fanshot'ed Jeff McDonald saying Blair would be too busy with his offseason training to participate.  That got me to thinking about who will be on our roster...

Because I don't care about the Celtics and Lakers, I bring you some more scouting news.

Spurs along with 22 other teams including the Nets will be looking at (Current DE Mock Position):
PG's: Ben Uzoh and Rodney Green
SG's: Sherron Collins (47) and Jon Scheyer
SF's: Stanley Robinson (24) and Darington Hobson (38)
PF's: Tim Ohlbrecht, Deon Thompson, Dexter Pittman (53), and Pablo Aguilar (58)
C's: Omar Samhan and Art Parakhouski (48)

I don't think Pittman is going to be playing much PF in the NBA. DE has him as a C, but I stuck with RU's positions.

I think the Spurs will have a close eye on Robinson - Hobson match up along with all of these second round to undrafted bigs.

In case you missed the previous workouts, they are listed as well. According to Tim Varner of 48MoH, Henry did not go to his work out with the Spurs.

Terrico White is a PG/SG currently projected as the 35th pick. He shot okay from 3 last year. He shot far better from 2 though. His stats remind me of Curtis Jerrells, a guy who scores good points because he wants the ball in his hands. He has 2.5" on George Hill but the same wingspan of 6'9".

Damion James's standing reach surprised me. Guess what, Dexter Pittman has the highest body fat of anyone they measured.

Pounding The Rock Spurs - Mavs Predictions Thread

This wait until Sunday is brutal, but I'm just reminding myself that the worse it is for me, the better it is for the Spurs and Hill's ankle.  I figure Tim or Davis will post a preview for game one late Saturday or early Sunday, so I thought I would create this post for this twilight zone between the regular season and the playoffs.

Read some of my predictions and share yours after the jump....

Pounding The Rock Spurs @ Suns Quick-cap

This game sucked. SEGABABA's suck.  THIGAFONI's suck.  The Suns suck.  I'm posting this quick-cap to give us a place to vent.

No pictures.  Hardly no formatting.  Just getting it done.  There is content though.  I think it's worth reading.

Pounding The Rock Can the Spurs Win the Southwest?

Hollinger's playoff odds put us at about 18% to win the division after Dallas's loss to Portland last night.  That seems really big to me so I thought I'd go more in depth into this as it is our best chance of home court advantage in the first round. Our only competition is the Mavericks.  For game by game comparison, jump....

Will the Spurs win the Southwest Division?
Definitely!

Probably not, but I think it's possible. I mean...Dallas sucks.

Pounding The Rock Standings Perspective: Remaining Games with Equalized Records

This is the second edition of my Standings Perspective.  The Spurs have been hurt in the standings for pretty much the entire season because we haven't played the same number of games as the teams around us.  My goal for this edition is to equalize the teams by gifting teams with less games played some wins.  Interested in this subjective twist?  More after the jump

Pounding The Rock Officiency

I wanted to take a minute to briefly discuss one of my favorite player stats, points per shot or PPS.  It is a simple stat, points scored divided by field goal attempts.  If you shoot threes, then you score more points per attempts.  If you get fouled you get freebies to boost the stat.

The stat is a great measure of scoring intangibles.  Let's just say Manu always looks like Superman in this stat.
