OLB is not the Dolphins' top need. That said, their top need is hard to pinpoint. To create a solid, consistent team you need the best talent & that means sometimes taking a better player over someone that fills a need. Smith is a physical freak, checking in at 6' 5", 260 lbs. He is a dynamic pass rusher. A rotation at OLB featuring Wake, Misi, & Smith would really cause headaches for opposing coordinators & OTs. Like most 'tweener prospects, Smith will need to learn the art of dropping into coverage. However, he is fluid enough to adequately fulfill those requirements with proper coaching. - Joe Mays, Draft Tek Analyst

The Phinsider With the 12th pick

of the 2010 NFL draft the Miami Dolphins choose: Here is a good look at the prize of the Dolphins 2010 draft. I expect we draft two outside linebackers to go with McClain add in a free saftey, a mid-round nose tackle prospect, a second inside linebacker, and you have quite the defensive mix drink to sip on the warm Miami beach this summer :)

The Phinsider B. Spikes

though he isnt all that athetic he is a very solid ILB. I wouldnt use the 12th-15th pick on him but if he slipped to the 2nd and woukld snatch him up excluding if we drafted McClain in the first. If we drafted say a OLB like Kindle or even Hughes he would be a very productive second rounder. Here is a very good scouting report on him:

The Phinsider Looking to the future

This season so far has brought much to light. We don't have a championship defense and in truth the offense is closer then then the D yes we don't have a @1 reciever but the QB, O-line and running game is there and we have the complimentary recievers IF we have that stud. On defense even with JT here just falters far to much and doesn't generate even close to the consistant rush we need. Now there are pieces on D the 2 rookie corners plus Jones in the nichol and 4 young D-ends to rotate throughout the game, a backiup NT, a potential FS in Clemons and well Bell is here for a couple years. The wilson experiment didn't work and he should be released next yr(assumming it is a uncapped yr as expected)

What has disapponited me the most has been the play calling and not just the individual plays but in general. We are a run first team that has a inexperienced QB that should be making the majority of his passes from the playaction mold ala Manning. Every pass should be out of PA with exception of real long 3rds and 2 minute offense
thus assisting Cam. Hartline, and Bess to get open by that spklit second hesatation of a run. Defensive play calling has to be the major part of the late game collapses OR the guys are gassed in the 4th and the staff didnt rotate the guys enough prior to the 4th.

This coming draft will be the determining factor on whether or not we become a perinnal playoff teasm or not. With the likelyhood of a rookie cap in the next yr or 2 there will be alot more declaring for the draft then in yrs past making this a deep draft and the upcomming ones not so.

On O we need that #1 wr and maybe a TE and we should be ok assumming R.B. is resigned and not seriously hurt. On defense we need a starting NT and 3 lbs atleast and is clemons isnt the guy a FS to boot. Peezy should be cut and start from scratch on the OLBs playing Wake much more to see if he can become a every down backer. Crowder is ok but we need that stud ILB Rolando McClain | MLB | 6'4, 248 pounds | Alabama is my first round hopeful next yr and considering the depth of draft Jermaine Gresham | TE | 6'6, 262 pounds | Oklahoma

or even Cody could be had at the top of round 2. No matter the conclusion of this yrs record we need to go all defense in the draft save 1 or 2 picks by either signing that #1 reciever or finding a TE already on the roster

The Phinsider (Taken into) The Mindless Black

Title has nothing to do with the content :) A hint for any who might be a lifestyler: The Mindless Black is My term for sub-space.

Our fearless leader Matty has said we can steal a game today I on the otherhand think this is our game why? We are at home and NO is in a sandwich situation. After playing the Giants and having the Falcons next week we could be overlooked abit here tack on our bye week to prepare and today is a good day for an "upset". Lets run run run and use play action to keep Saints O. off the field. This will be a great game :)

If the phins lose this week it will be time to start rooting for losses(draft position) and getting some younger guys more playing time. Will Bradford's injury lower his draft position? It very well could and if we can't beat NO under ideal situation then it becomes seeing what Henne can do(and other younger players Davis and others) and getting a higher draft position to draft a guy if necessary. I know how hard it is to hope for losses and still rooting for a win BUT being 2 back means beating NE twice which will be tougher then beating NO.

The other day I saw someone asking for pics from each of us I am too lazy to do that BUT My "stats:

48 year old man from twin falls idaho that has been a diehard dolfan since 1968

list your stats in this post. :)

enjoy the dolphin win today I know I will.

  31. 31 Arizona - Brown, D
  32. 32 Pittsburgh - Mack, A

Because of some slippage, Monroe, Curry, Orakpo I think Rey Rey falls ourm way. N.E. is the one that could screw us not only at #25 but all day long. If they do Mathews will be the pick

Though I stick to my signiture as what would be best and semi-realistic my mock has our firs day as:

#25 Rey Rey

#44 S. Smith

#56 Sintim though if gone Sidbury/Kruger/D.J. Moore

Halos Heaven I know the spring record is meaningless

but our record this spring does indicate that upper level depth of the "farm system". I think this spring is a solid barometer of our farm system atleast the upper level prospects especially along the infield and with our comp picks this year and next I think our prospect level is greater then ranked. I also saw the 10th ranked overall rating of our organization which was down graded with no "can't miss" prospects but I think we are in the top 2 or 3 overall franchises alnong with Boston and Atl

The Phinsider Drafting the draft

When I look at this years draft and projections I try to be Parcells meaning everything is based on his system(and being a dolfan growing up on the 70's dolphins, run, stop the run, field position) I think simular to Parcells. I think ppl wanting a WR at #1 are talking about what they want and not what they think Bill will do.

When thinking about what the phins will do on draft day there are things I have to take into consideration: 1st FO said this is a 3 yr project. 2nd Parcells way of building

1) run the ball

2) field position

3) Don't make mistakes at the QB spot

4) stop the run

5) make the play calling predictable

6) Rush the passer and force them to make mistakes

3rd) Take Parcells history into account: He is always looking for HIS next L.T.

4th) Consider what was added last year in draft. LT, QB, Guard, WR, 2 DLmen

5th) this off-season center and OL depth

6th) Look at strength of draft according to your picks late 1st and 2 seconds I see this as a defensive opportunity

7th) Roster depth and positions targeted: 53 players minus kickers leaves 51 players(forget practice squad(they can be raided like Balt. and the RB on squad last yr) and who you make inactive) So that would leave what 26 Offense and 25 defense?

3 TEs: we have 3 young ones

3 QBs: we have

5 WRs: we have 4 young ones we like and Wilford who I am not sure the team would cut

10 OL: 5 starters Satele, Berger, Allmen, Ndukwe, Murphy and that leaves no OT reserve someone young and liked will have to go even at keeping 10 I cannot see the team only keeping 9 here

5 Backs: We have Brown, Williams, Cobb, and Polite(keeping 4 leaves us thin) and I team needs to look for a replacement for Williams carries and possably for Brown if he wants more then FO wishes to pay for a RB.

thats 26 O players leaving 25 for D(which I would think all being equal Bill would prefer 26 on D and 25 on O but oh well)

Defense:

NT: Ferg's replacement has to be looked for

DE: Inspite of Langford and Merling you need atleast 3 DE starters meaning Rotators for fatigue and Injury a DE addition will be considered

ILB no depth and I suspect they are looking for Ayodele to be replaced and be the depth

OLB: here we are definately looking for a pass rusher AND Porter's eventual replacement. Wake might be the pass rusher that alterantes with Roth(passing downs) maybe not, it could very well be the FO is looking for 2 OLBs the second either alternating with Roth or taking his position moving Roth into the DE rotation

CB: We are looking for 2 starters, one for this yr and one to replace W. Allen

Saftey: Looking for depth and insurance case Bell gets hurt

This leaves me to believe our 3 yr "needs" are:

ILB, OLB(maybe 2), DE, NT, 2 CBs, Saftey, OT, RB(maybe 2), WR(playmaker)

I believe the FO likes the 4 young WRs but don't yet have a handle on their ceiling this leads me to believe barring something strange that WR/playmaker gets put on hold until next yr. RB if a Green or Mccoy or Brown drops to say 56 I wouldn't be surprised we snatch him.

then you look at the talent that will be in the 2010 draft(3rd yr of rebuild/plan) helping you decide what to target in this yrs draft.

All that said and done I believe the FO uses 7 of the 9 picks on D. ILB, OLB, DE, NT, 2 cbs and either a 2nd OLB or Saftey. That leaves 2 picks for offense and atleast 1 of the 2 will be OT maybe even 2 low round OTs that leaves one more pick left for either WR or RB and that will depend on what player has dropped to a level that the FO must have the guy.

I cannot see the FO drafting a WR unless it is a middle round dropper. Parcells and Sparano have said build from the inside out, QB, OL, RB, and the front 7 then the playmakers at WR and CB.

The Phinsider I really feel for D. Stallworth

if as talked about his system was clean of alchol and drugs.

In sept. of 2002 I was driving a city bus in downtown Sacramento and a 61 yr old man used my bus as the instrument of his death. I was making a left hand turn and plunk I felt a bump seeing nothing. I stopped and this man was outside the passenger door and crossed over in front of me. Though there was no witnesses nor evidence to suggest it wasn't an accident I was charged with Vech. Manslaughter. The man was an advocate for the homeless and the day after there was a 500+ word front page article about his life. Congressmen, govenor of Calif, ect all singing his praises, he lived a great life. It became a polical crusade against me and the case went on for 16 months before finally(on eve of picking the jury) the DA dropped case against me.  It cost me a career, over $30,000 in lawyer fees, hiring  2 investagators, and a reconstruction expert, lost a marriage because of it. You cannot comprehend the inner turmoil being the instructment of another's death causes someone irregardless if that person had 0% fault in the accident. This case will be political in nature and I truely do feel for Donte.

The Phinsider Its funny when people talk about how slow a 40 was run

When rarely are they running 40 yards on the playing field. Here is a nice article on football speed the 10 yard split....

One of the biggest misconceptions that emerge from the NFL scouting combine each year is the importance of 40-yard dash times. The 40 is the considered the glamour event of the combine, and every year NFL executives, scouts, draftniks and fans get carried away by some of the mind-boggling times. This often puts too much value on a player’s ability to run fast more than it does his pure football talent. Am I saying that the testing at the combine isn’t important? No, but the test needs to be evaluated more from a football-related standpoint.

The Phinsider 30 yr old former Panther starting CB K. Lucas released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Seven months after forgiving teammate Steve Smith for his nose-breaking sucker-punch, the Carolina Panthers released starting cornerback Ken Lucas on Wednesday in a salary-cap move.

The decision clears about $2.3 million and comes after the Panthers failed to work out a trade for the veteran, who struggled late last season. Lucas vetoed a deal to the Detroit Lions last month...

I don't know alot about him not seeing many Carolina games and was wondering the communitiy's feelsing on giving his agent a call and inquiring of cost. Would you like to see him in aqua and orange this coming season?

The Phinsider Aaron Maybin looks like the current pass rush "dropper"

Scout.com Player Evaluation:
STRENGTHS
 Athleticism
 Pass Rushing Skills
 Quickness off Ball
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
 Disengaging Skills
 Size
 Techniques and Moves
Maybin is a playmaking defender who lacks the size necessary to be an every down DE, but he could become a tremendous force as a 3-4 OLB. He has a great frame, but has to add to add bulk to compete at the next level. He has a quick first step, uses his speed to his advantage and is able to harass the quarterback by using his long wingspan against a tackle. He moves well laterally and changes direction smoothly. - Chris Steuber, Scout.com

Penn State defensive end Aaron Maybin learned valuable lessons from his head coach, Joe Paterno, that will serve him well as a professional player.

"Joe is a great man, a great head coach," Maybin said during his Saturday press conference in Indianapolis. "Having the pleasure to play under him has definitely been a huge learning experience for me. He's taught me a lot about what it really means to sacrifice, what it really means to pay attention to details, and what it really means to buy be able to buy into a system."

Information copied and pasted from www.scout.com

With Cushing and Mathews continuing their rise in appreciation of there skill and potential in the NFL it looks like Maybin could be one of the 3 or 4 pass rushers we will have to choose from. In fact a number of mocks have the 'Phins taking Maybin. What you think of Maybin being our pick in round 1?

The Phinsider Draft hopefuls for the 'phins

Considering what the tuna and helpers have done this off-season and not expecting anything more then maybe adding another a CB to compete: the draft comings seem fairly clear cut.

1st round: I don't believe wr is as big a need as many do considering the depth at DE/LB and the tuna's next L.T. search I am conviced this is where our first pick will go. I am hoping for one of the 3 USC lbers to be avalible most noteablly Cushing. Other potential miami picks at this spot include: Maybin(though doubt he'll fall this far), English, Laurinaitis(because he plays both inside and out), Barwin, or Gilbert. Even though cb seems to be team's biggest need unless Jenkins or Davis is there don't expect first rounder to be choosen from the cb class.

2nd round: First of two choices. I expect again defense to be the choice here with a D.J. Moore, A. Smith, S. Smith, or a DT like Brace though a wr isn't out of the question if a Britt falls here. Also IF a Wells, Mccoy, or Moreno falls this far it wouldn't shock me if we took him as an evential replacement for Brown and his impending large contract.

Second second rounder could be WR but I am still thinking defense waiting until 3rd to get a reciever. IF cb isn't addressed with first of 2nd rounders then here will be a spot to get a dropper or Butler/Allen/Fraccies. It wouldn't surprise me in the bit if both second rounders end up being CBs OR even if a fallen OT is taken in this spot.

I am hoping OT run happens prior to our first round pick, 3 QBs selected, and a couple rbs thus giving us a choice between a couple DE/LB types to choose from.
