What's the point of playing CJ at backup PG? Blake can handle that. Make it easier for CJ to earn minutes by playing backup SG

Doctor! Doctor! Will I be able to shoot free throws when my thumb heals? ... Of course, son ... Great, because I sure couldn't before.

It's all about whether Blake(PG) + Dame(SG) is better than Dame(PG) + CJ/Barton(SG).

Dallas can not rescind their renouncement of Marion, else they could S&T him using Bird Rights.

We never renounced Mo so we have Non-Bird Rights 120% exception to sign him. Dallas renounced Marion,

I think we are mis-communicating. Dallas renounced Marion, so they have to clear cap room to sign him for $2.5M-3M.

When I talk about quality-time minutes I mean highly competitive games with no garbage time, not season averages.

I see it this way. Dame plays 36 minutes at guard, and Blake must play PG whenever Dame is off the court.

Even if Dallas recreated cap room we'd have to add a draft pick, or something, to Mo. Else Dallas just signs Mo themselves.

Did you not read what I wrote? S&T, but only if Dallas could clear cap room to sign Marion, and we add something to Mo.

Wes isn't a SF in a traditional sense, but we can play a 3-guard lineup against some matchups.

We wouldn't be paying the luxury tax, but you are right he'd have to sign for the $1.5M minimum - not going to happen.

CJ and Barton are really competing with Blake for minutes. Our best backup SG is Dame. So they are trying to make it a 4-guard rotation,

The Dame and Batum contracts in 2016 may also encourage Paul/Olshey to pull the plug on a starter (Wes or Batum) in 2015

The issue was only about being hard capped if we used the full MLE. That was the reason we would have to remove players

He assumed Kaman was waived so we would only pay him $1M and it would only count as $1M against the cap.

If you get a $68M cap the numbers work. That's a 66% higher increase than the NBA projection, which was lowered to $66M

Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 10:58p - 1 reply
Since he said $20.6M for LA, which is the 10-year max this year, I'm guessing he just used the 10-yr number by mistake.
Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 8:30p
OK, I see where he's getting Barton's cap hold. He is using the Qualifying Offer for a 3-yr vet restricted free agent.
Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 7:51p - 1 reply
That's correct. I changed the Expiring Contracts Table to "Team Option", "Option Declined", rather than Cap Hold Renounced.
Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 7:17p
But it isn't really 30% of the salary cap. The "max cap" is figured differently, so it's actually less than 30% of the cap.
Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 7:02p - 1 reply
I don't know where that's coming from. LA can't have hold larger than his max salary.
Commented on 2015 Salary Cap Room Analysis on Jul 20 2014, 6:55p - 1 reply

Yes, there are plenty of alternate scenarios depending on who you want to keep, especially when targeting a specific FA position.

I realize that very well. I'm talking about a 3rd string backup PG. Either a vet or a passed over player for a minimum salary.

Ordinarily I might agree with that reasoning. But Crabbe has no where to go here, and won't get more valuable sitting on the bench.
