Shows how amazing Walton was. He wasn't just great individually, but enormously magnified the abilities of his teammates

They didn't pass on Ewing. They tried to talk him into it (hence the fine), but he wouldn't come out of school early.

Did an extra comma mess up what I tried to say originally?

He wasn't good at all ... as a player.

Pat Riley was once a Trailblazer, but never played a regular season game for us. The Blazers picked him in the 1970 Expansion Draft,

In those days there was a coin flip between the bottom teams in the East and West conferences. PDX had Indiana's 1984 pick from the East

Not that close. Durant won NBA MVP, led NBA in total points 5 years, 4 of 5 years in PPG. Clyde was a more distant 2nd to MJ.

Moses Malone (HoF, one of 50 Greatest Of All Time) was once a Trailblazer, but we couldn't afford him so he was traded away.

More on Bowie story -- Portland was fined $250,00 for illegal contact with both Akeem and Patrick Ewing, but were still permitted the pick.

Pretty worthless to LA as a development opportunity based on his experience and maturity. Dame probably benefited from

Welcome. A nice intro article. You have a lot of the right questions. We don't know all the right answers ... yet.

The advantage of writing for BE is that everyone knowledgeable about Blazers basketball will see what you write.

Durant fatigue??? That's the kind of fatigue you get safely sitting out while waiting to sign a $265M endorsement deal.
Commented on Damian Lillard Cut from Team USA: The Fallout on Aug 25 2014, 12:30p
Small matter, but Batum played 36.0 MPG according to basketball-reference.com. LA led the team with 36.2, not Batum.
Commented on Could Nicolas Batum ever be an All-Star? on Aug 24 2014, 3:09p - 1 reply
Entirely expected from Day 1, but I'd imagine it was a great motivating experience for Dame playing with Curry, Rose, and Irving.

The draft was decided Day 1. Timmay was gifted Walton and took Dame. Chris could have made it a race by taking Sabonis

How enthusiastic will you still be if he plays 10 minutes a game this year?
Commented on Portland Trail Blazers Player Review: Thomas Robinson, Rebounding Machine on Aug 13 2014, 8:56p - 1 reply
We can never say anything with certainty. But TRob is the 4th Big here (maybe even the 5th if Freeland takes another big step).

All star game on Feb 15 for Dame and LA.

Great schedule. Fast start at home, no road trips over 5 games, not too many back to backs, long stay at home over New Year.
Commented on Portland Trail Blazers Schedule Released, 2014-15 NBA Season Set on Aug 13 2014, 8:21p
By that logic Dame has a fatal flaw, at least so far. So did Roy. They still made all-star coaches picks, as did Kiki.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 3:53p
I'm thinking this is about how they actually performed as Blazer players. Not a projection of injuries or washing out on drugs, etc.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 3:43p - 1 reply
Grant was one of the most over-rated players ever on the Blazers.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 3:34p - 1 reply
Billy Ray Bates of course. He once slept through the 1st half of a game, and showed up for the 2nd half.

He must be expecting to make some trades, because that is just a weird team.

Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 2:36p - 1 reply
Brian Grant was a really weak pick, but Kiki is a steal. Sam is back in the game.

Yep, good logic. Now don't forget about the "sleeper" that is still going to be there in a later round.

Per Kiki's defense ... As Steve Jones used to say, the team with the most points wins.

I'm more than shocked. Nobody remember how good Thompson was?
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 2:24p - 2 replies
I'd have brought Cliffy off the bench. One of the best Blazer 6th man ever.

Geez, Dale Davis???? With Thompson still on board? Or Duck?
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 2:17p - 1 reply
Well, I would have taken Kiki, but Pax is a good choice because you needed a SG. I had them #1 and #2 at your spot.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft: Rounds 5-6 on Aug 13 2014, 2:17p - 1 reply
Well, as I said, I don't think he will be a key contributor. And unless we make the WCF this year don't expect Paul to pay the luxury tax.
Commented on Portland Trail Blazers Player Review: Thomas Robinson, Rebounding Machine on Aug 13 2014, 1:43p - 2 replies
I think this will be TRob's last year here. I don't think he gets a lot of minutes this year (w/o other injuries) and his $4.7M salary

Wicks pick was drafting on stats. His chemistry and selfishness kills that team. Wicks and Roy is like Wicks and Petrie.

OK, gotcha. Yes, if Chris does take Kiki, then I like Pax over Steve Smith.

Team Sam is #2 now, but well behind Timmay. Thompson may still be on the board as a PF for Sam.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft, Rounds 3 and 4 on Aug 12 2014, 3:46p
Pax and Clyde??? And still no center?
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft, Rounds 3 and 4 on Aug 12 2014, 3:42p - 1 reply
Yeah, he but he took Nic when he should have taken KIki. Nic and Kiki this high wastes a pick he needs for a good Big.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft, Rounds 3 and 4 on Aug 12 2014, 3:39p
Timmay is dominating this draft. Chris has to take a big now (Thompson or Duck) and that leaves Kiki for Timmay. It's over.

Who's Dave Foresaw, and why did he make that silly rule? Our GM's would have never traded him away.

The #3 Pick in this draft should have been Moses Malone. He only played preseason games for PDX, but I hear he has potential.

He'll have to after Wallace gives him a bloody nose with that towel, and he goes home to Lithuania.

The big question - Who goes higher, Wes or Batum?
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft on Aug 11 2014, 8:29p - 1 reply
Buck would have more trouble with the rules than Luke. Luke would just have to quit punching guys. It's no longer a $1000 fine.
Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft on Aug 11 2014, 8:28p - 1 reply
Those will be the picks, but Wallace will injure Sabas with a towel during the playoffs and it will be all over for them.

Commented on The Portland Trail Blazers All-Time Draft on Aug 11 2014, 8:17p - 1 reply
Got to reverse #1 and #2. Clyde team needs a PG and an outside shooter after they get Sabas. Walton team just takes Buck

Ah, Walton's the only guy to win any championships with the Blazers. Winning one is enough of a goal for this draft.

Meyers has learned almost nothing on his own, or from Hughes. He could learn from Kaman. Kaman's career is likely his best ceiling.
Commented on Portland Trail Blazers Player Review: The Sad Saga of Meyers Leonard on Aug 3 2014, 9:38p
Kaman could be the best thing that happens to Meyers. He's more polished than RoLo, excellent footwork, harder to defend.
