Trade Update- Portland or Bust for Carter/ Jefferson or Carter to Portland

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=TradeTalkRoundup-090218

Chris Broussard: It looks like it’s Portland or bust for Vince Carter, according to a person with knowledge of the trade talks surrounding New Jersey’s star forward.

“It’s looking like it’s going to be head-to-head between Carter and Richard Jefferson,” the person said. “I think Jefferson’s going to be the one who goes to Portland.”

While Carter may be the better player, Portland’s concerned with Carter’s age (he turned 32 last month) and the three years, $51 million left on his contract (though only $4 million of the $18 million in his final season is guaranteed).

The Nets have their own concerns about Carter’s contract and that’s why they’ve been shopping him. They’ve spoken with San Antonio, Houston and Dallas but nothing has come of those talks.

Discussions with San Antonio have broken down because the Spurs, while willing to part with Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto, are not willing to include Roger Mason Jr. and George Hill in the deal.

Houston would have traded Tracy McGrady for Carter, but McGrady’s announcement that he’ll have season-ending microfracture surgery killed those chances.

“There will be no Vince deal,” another source close to the situation said, referring to the Rockets.

The Los Angeles Clippers, who since training camp have regretted signing Baron Davis to a five-year, $65 million deal, have tried to get involved, proposing a three-team move that would send Davis to Houston, McGrady to New Jersey and Carter to LA. But no one but the Clippers liked that deal.

If Carter doesn’t go to Portland, will the Nets send him wherever they can?

“I’d be surprised if they did a straight salary dump, but at the end of the day that might be best for their organization,” said one source.

As for Milwaukee’s Jefferson, it’s far from a done deal that he’ll join the Blazers. The Bucks would love to send Jefferson to Portland in a deal that would bring back Raef LaFrentz’s expiring contract, but another executive close to the talks said, “It’s not dead but there’s nothing happening right now.”

The Bucks’ talks with San Antonio about Jefferson have stalled as well.

Portland’s telling teams it has 15 different players it can get for LaFrentz. But many executives around the league are skeptical, saying the Blazers like to talk about deals but are always hesitant to pull the trigger on anything significant.

Very intriguing. I like both deals, Jefferson has a reasonable contract and can provide inside scoring as well as a veteran presence down the stretch. I'm very fascinated by the concept of having Carter aboard. Sure he's 32, but he's got 2-3 good years barring injury. VCEC could be of even greater value than RLEC is now... he could be the asset that pushes the blazers to 2-3 more championships :)

REPORTED ON SPORTSCENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG OMG

OMG OMG

i think its a fair trade... mike miller seems appealing... and minnesota gets who they wanted afterall.

Fillers of Walker, Cardinal, Collins

Totally new outlook for each team, Memphis looks deadly with Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol, and OJ Mayo into the mix, not to mention Mike Conley Jr.

Minnesota........ has 2 big bodies in the paint, Kevin Love and AL Jefferson, it all depends on how Corey Brewer and Randy Foye pan out. Outside shooting from Mike Miller

Some of the Conversation around here..

It seems as though there has been a little turmoil here at BE.

I don't post or comment very often, but i read just about everything on this site. I guess i could be considered a "lurker" on this site

im not sure if this has been longterm but i think there has been too many personal attacks towards each other.

When i see the red exclamation or the (new comment) appear i'm thrilled to read someone's insights or read something amusing. But lately i have clicked and all there is dialogue and arguments that include personal attacks.

I hope if you have any problem or suggestion that you leave it in this diary. And If Dave thinks ther is too much im sure he'll do something about it!

Bibby to Hawks!

http://www.sacbee.com/749/story/717681.html

just reported,

King send: Mike Bibby to the Hawks

Kings Recieve: Tyronn Lue, Anthony Johnson, Shelden Williams, and Lorenzen Wright from the hawks.

I think this was a good trade for both sides. Mike bibby was unhappy and needed to be traded.

And get this...

ALL 3 of the contracts from the Hawks are expiring... THIS YEAR! THats a LOT of cap space for the Kings this summer.

Lue, Johnson and Wright expire this year, while Williams expires next year.

I personally don't think Mike Bibby was ever worth that much, he isn't a great shooter, teammate.

I think the Hawks got ANOTHER point guard... hmmmmm but then again Mike Bibby shoots it a lot

http://www.nba.com/news/randolph_080104.html

Well Z-bo is off to his antics.... throwing a headband at a official. Hmmmm this trade just keeps getting better and better.

Remember how excited Zach was... he would finally reach the playoffs in the East and make the all-star team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... heck he might even accomplish it... just like Isiah Thomas will win a championship with the players he has now!!!!

BLAZERS SUPPORTERS ON ESPN: Greg Anthony and Skip Bayless

Yea i was just watching 1st & 10:

they had very nice things to say about Portland.
Greg Anthony was making great points:

10 game winning streak is legit
Brandon Roy is a budding Superstar... impresses his leadership and will which we all know
Giving Nate Mcmillan Credit
Players care about winning.. not stats.. unity
And the same old "no greg oden" line

Skip Bayless calls Greg Anthony the smartest Anaylst. Declares that Blazers make the Playoffs

He thinks Brandon Roy has already budded
he makes the point that To bring Jarret Jack and Travis Outlaw off the bench.. is incredible

and that they are the future team. with greg oden they will dominate the paint..
they even said

Greg Oden > Dwight Howard

^_^ always good to get some recognition and some blazer believers.

Phi/Utah Trade!!!!

http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/10548899

Apparently the Sixers acquired Kyle Korver for disgruntled Gordan Giricek  which you might all kno has been having problems with coach jerry sloan... no suprise he traded... but for Kyle Korver!!!

Right now it looks like Utah adds another weapon...maybe they've started to hit the panic button a little?????
Maybe that 1st round pick might be the only incentive and probably to rid the Sixers of that Korver Contract

Free Throw Shooting

Last year it was great to see good free throw %. Hitting clutch freethrows down teh stretch really helped us clinch some games. it may look like a small thing but sometimes Free Throws are the difference in the game.

So lets look at our current Roster, do you think we have free-throw shooters and will anybody hurt us a lot? this may be off-topic at the moment but sine Jack is most likely traded, do you think that our Freethrow % will decrease substantially?

Your thoughts
