Trade Update- Portland or Bust for Carter/ Jefferson or Carter to Portland
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=TradeTalkRoundup-090218
Chris Broussard: It looks like it’s Portland or bust for Vince Carter, according to a person with knowledge of the trade talks surrounding New Jersey’s star forward.
“It’s looking like it’s going to be head-to-head between Carter and Richard Jefferson,” the person said. “I think Jefferson’s going to be the one who goes to Portland.”
While Carter may be the better player, Portland’s concerned with Carter’s age (he turned 32 last month) and the three years, $51 million left on his contract (though only $4 million of the $18 million in his final season is guaranteed).
The Nets have their own concerns about Carter’s contract and that’s why they’ve been shopping him. They’ve spoken with San Antonio, Houston and Dallas but nothing has come of those talks.
Discussions with San Antonio have broken down because the Spurs, while willing to part with Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto, are not willing to include Roger Mason Jr. and George Hill in the deal.
Houston would have traded Tracy McGrady for Carter, but McGrady’s announcement that he’ll have season-ending microfracture surgery killed those chances.
“There will be no Vince deal,” another source close to the situation said, referring to the Rockets.
The Los Angeles Clippers, who since training camp have regretted signing Baron Davis to a five-year, $65 million deal, have tried to get involved, proposing a three-team move that would send Davis to Houston, McGrady to New Jersey and Carter to LA. But no one but the Clippers liked that deal.
If Carter doesn’t go to Portland, will the Nets send him wherever they can?
“I’d be surprised if they did a straight salary dump, but at the end of the day that might be best for their organization,” said one source.
As for Milwaukee’s Jefferson, it’s far from a done deal that he’ll join the Blazers. The Bucks would love to send Jefferson to Portland in a deal that would bring back Raef LaFrentz’s expiring contract, but another executive close to the talks said, “It’s not dead but there’s nothing happening right now.”
The Bucks’ talks with San Antonio about Jefferson have stalled as well.
Portland’s telling teams it has 15 different players it can get for LaFrentz. But many executives around the league are skeptical, saying the Blazers like to talk about deals but are always hesitant to pull the trigger on anything significant.

Very intriguing. I like both deals, Jefferson has a reasonable contract and can provide inside scoring as well as a veteran presence down the stretch. I'm very fascinated by the concept of having Carter aboard. Sure he's 32, but he's got 2-3 good years barring injury. VCEC could be of even greater value than RLEC is now... he could be the asset that pushes the blazers to 2-3 more championships :)
BLAZERS SHOUTOUT TO THE LEAGUE ABOUT MILES
Oh my Oh my the Blazers are playing it tough. Issuing a league-wide threat to any team that wishes to tamper with their cap............. this doesn't look too good
OJ Mayo Trade
Minnesota Receives:
Kevin Love
Brian Cardinal
Mike Miller
Jason Collins
Memphis Receives:
OJ Mayo
Marko Jaric
Antoine Walker
Greg Buckner
REPORTED ON SPORTSCENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG OMG
OMG OMG
OMG OMG
OMG OMG
i think its a fair trade... mike miller seems appealing... and minnesota gets who they wanted afterall.
Fillers of Walker, Cardinal, Collins
Totally new outlook for each team, Memphis looks deadly with Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol, and OJ Mayo into the mix, not to mention Mike Conley Jr.
Minnesota........ has 2 big bodies in the paint, Kevin Love and AL Jefferson, it all depends on how Corey Brewer and Randy Foye pan out. Outside shooting from Mike Miller
Some of the Conversation around here..
It seems as though there has been a little turmoil here at BE.
I don't post or comment very often, but i read just about everything on this site. I guess i could be considered a "lurker" on this site
im not sure if this has been longterm but i think there has been too many personal attacks towards each other.
When i see the red exclamation or the (new comment) appear i'm thrilled to read someone's insights or read something amusing. But lately i have clicked and all there is dialogue and arguments that include personal attacks.
I hope if you have any problem or suggestion that you leave it in this diary. And If Dave thinks ther is too much im sure he'll do something about it!
Bibby to Hawks!
http://www.sacbee.com/749/story/717681.html
just reported,
King send: Mike Bibby to the Hawks
Kings Recieve: Tyronn Lue, Anthony Johnson, Shelden Williams, and Lorenzen Wright from the hawks.
I think this was a good trade for both sides. Mike bibby was unhappy and needed to be traded.
And get this...
ALL 3 of the contracts from the Hawks are expiring... THIS YEAR! THats a LOT of cap space for the Kings this summer.
Lue, Johnson and Wright expire this year, while Williams expires next year.
I personally don't think Mike Bibby was ever worth that much, he isn't a great shooter, teammate.
I think the Hawks got ANOTHER point guard... hmmmmm but then again Mike Bibby shoots it a lot
ZBO Suspended 1 game
http://www.nba.com/news/randolph_080104.html
Well Z-bo is off to his antics.... throwing a headband at a official. Hmmmm this trade just keeps getting better and better.
Remember how excited Zach was... he would finally reach the playoffs in the East and make the all-star team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... heck he might even accomplish it... just like Isiah Thomas will win a championship with the players he has now!!!!
BLAZERS SUPPORTERS ON ESPN: Greg Anthony and Skip Bayless
Yea i was just watching 1st & 10:
they had very nice things to say about Portland.
Greg Anthony was making great points:
10 game winning streak is legit
Brandon Roy is a budding Superstar... impresses his leadership and will which we all know
Giving Nate Mcmillan Credit
Players care about winning.. not stats.. unity
And the same old "no greg oden" line
Skip Bayless calls Greg Anthony the smartest Anaylst. Declares that Blazers make the Playoffs
He thinks Brandon Roy has already budded
he makes the point that To bring Jarret Jack and Travis Outlaw off the bench.. is incredible
and that they are the future team. with greg oden they will dominate the paint..
they even said
Greg Oden > Dwight Howard
^_^ always good to get some recognition and some blazer believers.
Phi/Utah Trade!!!!
http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/10548899
Apparently the Sixers acquired Kyle Korver for disgruntled Gordan Giricek which you might all kno has been having problems with coach jerry sloan... no suprise he traded... but for Kyle Korver!!!
Right now it looks like Utah adds another weapon...maybe they've started to hit the panic button a little?????
Maybe that 1st round pick might be the only incentive and probably to rid the Sixers of that Korver Contract
Free Throw Shooting
Last year it was great to see good free throw %. Hitting clutch freethrows down teh stretch really helped us clinch some games. it may look like a small thing but sometimes Free Throws are the difference in the game.
So lets look at our current Roster, do you think we have free-throw shooters and will anybody hurt us a lot? this may be off-topic at the moment but sine Jack is most likely traded, do you think that our Freethrow % will decrease substantially?
Your thoughts
A STEPHEN A .SMITH MIRACLE
I think he's talking some sense. After Marc Jackson made a point of LMA not being a good fit with Zbo and ODen, they should shop LMA for a slasher.
I laughed and had 2 points in my head
1.IF anything Zach will be traded, more value, more problems
2.EVEN IF LMA was traded i'd think they would trade for a multi-dimensional shooter SF, not a mostly slasher for we have brandon Roy for that.
Stephen SMith then made the right comment,
He said that only Zach and Darius are left of the Jailblazers and they will be rid of. And that Lamarcus Aldridge will be great.
P.S Watching NBA draft special on ESpn
Listentingto Andy Katz rumors
Its interesting hearing his rumors:
He says that MIlwaukee Bucks (#6) will most likely trade the pick if Horford/Yi/Conley are all gone.
He says the 76ers have offereed 12 & 21 for 6
He also says Joel Pryzbilla+Jarret Jack for the 6
+ Dan Gadzuric and Filer That blazer traade i like :), that gives us a chance to get Green,Brewer,Conley,Yi
The Pick from other perspectives
Lets look at this decision Oden/Durant from different persepctives.
If we take Durant, which is what I think pritch will do, then Seattle gets Oden. Would we be able to trade down the pick? Or would Seattle know we want Durant and jus thold out for Oden. Could there be a possible sign-and-trade? or a 3 team trade.
Which is scarier Oden/allen/Lewis or Durant/Lewis/Allen, both deadly but i think if Durant goes to Seattle, Rashard will more likely sign elsewhere.
ALso, with the abundance of quality Forwards and SF's (THornton,Brewer,Green,Noah, Horford, Wrights) and the desire to get another lotto pick, it is easier to fill the SF position.
Right now i'm undecided, i'm probably around 60-40 Oden and waiting to see any hints Pritchard may give after Durant's workout. Pritchard is so deceptive u can't find anything out of his words, he can wheel-and-deel draft night, and just because ODen is selected doesn't mean he will be a Blazer for long.
Durant or Oden, u can't miss with either, but i'd regret less Durant getting away then Oden.
With Oden we will most likely deal Zach for a pick giving us LMA/Oden/Roy/Jack?BLake?Trade?/SF drafted?trade?, 3/5's very solid.
WIth Durant we would possibly see LMA(texas alumni)/Durant/Zach/ROy/Jack, and see where that takes us, very potent and not bad defenders.
Either way I am not concerned about the decision because they are "open-minded" and looking for whats best for the organization. Bottom line i think it will come down to: Chemistry with the teammates, Coach/Front office/Owner choice, and the possibilties on Draft night and trades.
I"M SO LOOKING FORWARD TO DRAFT DAY!!!!!!!!!!
In Pritchard we trust!
My views along with ESPN's
Good stuff this time but this was there ESPN projected lineup
G: Jarrett Jack, depends on if Zach will be traded
G: Brandon Roy, seems like a guy many want to play with
C: Greg Oden, he will be like Bill Walton and bring back Rip City
F: Zach Randolph, I'm not sure if they thought he'd be a Sf or PF but maybe there trying a Sheed/Zach thing back then, L-MA is much like Sheed so i guess in essence it can work
F: Lamarcus Aldridge, crashes boards, silky smooth jumper, offensive rebounder, gazelle on floor, PERFECT
~~~~~the intersting thing was they said it was a front-line with much upside add a Darius Miles....They obviously know nothing about Portland if they still think 40 lbs overweight Daruis will ever come back. Another thing was earlier i saw they put 2006 lineup with Travis Outlaw at SF rather than IMe.... i guess starting 75 games isn't good enough to be a starter~~~~~~
Alternate: Kevin Durant, i wouldn't mind having this guy either
He's a great scorer with more "potential" then Oden not that he doesn't have much.
He like Portland, and seemed excited to possibly play with LMA and Roy, along with Sergio
3.This guy allows Zach to be traded and us to run, which i'm still not decided if thats good or bad.
Reasons why Greg Oden:
Great Big men don't come often. I.E. Bill WAlton championship 3 years later.
Create holes for B-Roy and Lamarcus, doesn't command ball like Durant.
Even though he doesn't know anything about Portland, Nate will be a good mentor and defensive coach. The best part i think thats attractive about Portland is Nike, and not being rushed. NOt as much pressure to perform as say Memphis and Boston. Portland is in no rush therefore letting him learn the game to be dominant.
Either way i trust K-Pritch and this should be a hell of a draft.
Kevin Durant Reactoin
http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/ivp/index?id=2879637&catname=The Latest
Most Insiders are saying Greg Oden, which i think is the right pick unless we are becoming a "running" team. Kevin Durant said he liked the city and knew right off the bat no hesitation that Aldridge and Brandon Roy were lurking down in P-Town. The whole Mom issue worries me a little bit but then again, regardless he will play in the NorthWest. Next question? Cold or Colder?
Linas Kleiza?
The Lithuanian big man playing for the Denver Nuggets. He was great for them during the stretch run into the playoffs and hasn't done bad in them. He's Also gotten praise from A.I. and Carmelo which has to count for something.
Point is, We as in Portland drafted him #27 in the 2005 draft and sent him and #35 Ricky Sanchez to Denver for Jarrett Jack. I personally don't think or ever will regret trading him because Jack has been valuable for us and you can't ever be sure a European player will pan out and become the player you want them to be.
Are there some regrets? what if he becomes a prominent piece to play along A.I and Carmelo? Maybe stings the Spurs with a 25 point game?
Post your thoughts and Opinions!
BlazersEdge Motto
I've been reading GsoM just for the pics and the funnyness of the Warriors, and i think we need some type of Page Motto, Also maybe a logo?
NOw i don't just want one to just have one or to copy, but it would be cool to have something to say even when we done 40 to the Grizz. So how about it any ideas? quotes,comments,anything funny and motivating u've heard from a blazer?
BREAKING NEWS:ROY out against Dallas
Trail Blazers rookie Brandon Roy will be held out of Saturday night's game at Dallas because of pain in his right knee.
Roy spent a great deal of Friday's pregame in Houston in the training room, receiving electronic therapy in addition to being checked out by athletic trainer Jay Jensen and a Houston doctor. Roy went on to score a game-high 24 points while playing 37 minutes. He rubbed the knee a lot after the game, but never mentioned that it was bothering him.
Team officials said it doesn't appear that this will be a chronic injury, or one that will keep Roy out for an extended period. It has more to do with being cautious, especially considering tonight is the second game of a back-to-back. He is expected to return for Monday's game in San Antonio
No news who will replace Roy in the starting lineup, but I think the best bet is Martell Webster. The Blazers will have only 10 healthy players available.
Quick
This isn't good, now we have a .000000000000001% chance of winning. Worse than our 1% chance. OUches this isn't gonna be a pretty game, but if we can step up and make this a competitive game i'll be proud of the Blazers. NO Randolph,Aldridge,Pryzbilla, and Roy. God, plz don't let us be blown out by 60!
Recaps and credit giving
I'm sure i'm not the only one who's disspointed. But i've been checking some recaps of blazer games and some other teams, under 500 teams. And whenever they beat a better or playoff team, somehow the headline points to more "ROckets,Suns, Bulls,etc. lose" more than "bucks or t-wolves win".
GIve credit to the winning team!!!!!! I mean perfect example of the ROcket game. As dave said in the recap comments, ESPN just thinks the rocketrs lost because they were short-handed. Sure they were, but look on the flip side....We were without Zach, and LAmarcus. Sure Zach/Aldridge doesn't compare to Yao/Mcgrady, but to the team they are both key players. GIVE SOME CREDIT, they lost, blazers played better, end of story, don't find excuses for "better teams"
There is my Venting about that
GASP has KOBE DONE IT AGAIN!
WEll i'm back to bring back the hate on Kobe.
So Tonight Kobe's line goes like this
23 points 7/26 Fg shooting 3/7 3pt 5 boards 5 assists 6/9 from the line
held to 14 points through 3 qts.
........AS if u didn't know where this was goin...
LAKERS LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
88-86 to .........THE GRIZZ, who comin into Portland with some confidence :(.
And to put the icing on the cake.... His game tying jumpshot was BLOCKED by PAu gasol!
ONce again his teammates did nothing much either, this just shows that if Kobe can't drop 40 a night even on the Grizzlies Who he beat in the past week. HE CAN"T WIN, his team can't even beat the worst team in the NBa...wow i wonder how they gonna fair against San Antonio when KObe's suspended for punching another player.......
LET THE HATERS COME OUT!
MORE PICTURES!
I"ve been lookin at Golden State of Mind blog....boy is it FUNNY!. NOt so much the writing, i love the anaylisis Dave brings and the still funny comments posted by some of yas but some funny pictures would really make it interesting. They have live pictures form the game and some funny comments to go along with it. I say they have a little too much pics and not enough talk but still........maybe get in some funny cracks now and then and to maybe put some of our players in a "different" spotlight!
He who must not be named
He has 21 points at halftime.......Unless he blows up i don't think he'll get 50 points. I don't get all the publicity. Its only Kobe, if it was anyone else, say Vince Carter gettom 50 4 straight games he would have half the media on him. Sure, its great for the record books but He has averaged what....1 assist per game, it took him 65 to beat the blazers.
He can't keep this up, too bad his team has to suffer everytime he gets 30 because that means they lose every night....... shame on u...!!!!!!
Georgetown/Portland's picks/Ncaa
Been watchin UNc vs. Georgetown. Man Roy Hibbert and Jeff Green are pretty good. What do u picture them goin in if they declare for the draft? i'm thinkin somewher between 5-15 pick. NOw if the blazers play at the same clip, we would be lookin at the 6,7,8th pick. Who would u select? What if we got a high pick maybe 1-4 pick. Could u deal that pick + maybe T.O/martell to get 2 picks in the mid range 10-17 to get some better choices?
Place your thoughts here
2nd rounders
So, as u know we have many second rd picks from last years draft. I'm not a Ncaa fanatic but i do watch some games. how many 2nd rounders do we have? and what can we get from those, more picks? packaging, or maybe find a nice steal in the 2nd round.
We could trade some 2nd roudners up for a first or just settle for doin some homework and finding a player? Roy HIbbert? preferably a Sf is there is a good one available?
What do u think?
Comments plz!
