Rock Chalk Talk I'm impressed

I have to say I am amazed. The Kansas Jayhawks, number 1 preseason basketball team, potenial candidate for the national championship, the list goes on... and yet, day after day football seems to be the thing.

Now i know football season starts long before basketball season (unfortunetly) but I stand amazed that basketball seems to not be discussed that much. Granted this is just what i've observed since I've joined and it waswn't that long ago, but I was hoping for some basketball conversation!

Some friendly bickering, stat swapping, Kentucky's 8th nat'l banner, anything....

I guess because I'm from Kentucky and I live for basketball is why I don't get it, but with your basketball team entering the season like it is, I'm astounded there isn't more basketball ball talk.

So let's hear it!

P.S. I've added an unbiased poll for you jayhawk fans

A Sea Of Blue Summing up UK bball (apparently)

Well this sums up nicely how twisted the rest of the sporting world is when it comes to UK basketball. Kansas blog posted a preseason top 25 and UK was 3rd while Kansas was first. I meant my comment as a joke and the response gave my quite a bit of..wait for it...Schadenfreude!

Let us not forget who lurks only 2 spots below you...

Do you people

just love the hear yourself talk? Seriously, I thought Misery fans were bad with how irrational they are and how much they have a hard on for KU. But, this is ridiculous.

You have been IRRELEVANT for nearly 5 years now. You had a HOF coach in Tubby Smith (WHO WON A TITLE) and you ran him out of town. He was the greatest thing in the world back then, huh? So was Billy G when he was first hired. You guys were so happy that you had that young, top prospect of a coach and were so ready to win multiple titles…. SPLAT! Now you got the ultimate shady dude and you think it’s gonna be different? Why? What’s better about Calipari? He cheats and doesn’t get caught?

Seriously, Kentucky fan (ALL OF YOU), get a life, get over yourselves and please realize that even your shit does stink, too – just like the rest of the world. And, spare me the "all-time winningest program" bullshit. That’s a crutch for a fallen program and a maniacal fanbase that wouldn’t admit that they had a drug problem if you were sprinkiling crack on your cereal instead of sugar.

Your collection of one-and-done players don’t give a shit about playing for Kentucky. They are there because Calipari and how he gets players to The League. None of them even want to be in college period, but for the NBA they have to. It has nothing to do with your "storied program" and how you have "the best fanbase in the country." It’s about the $$$. They will not mesh together and be competitive against a close-knit squad with even close to comparable talent. The first time John Wall jacks up a contested three instead of throwing it into Orton in the post, he’s gonna whine and bitch and sulk all the way down the court and then you’ll turn your back on him – just like you did Tubby Smith. (By the way, that Tubby sure can coach. He’s made Minnesota competitive.)

God, I hate Kentucky fan more than Misery fan. (Right now, at least.)

It was a joke.

I guess adding a :) makes all the difference in the world.
I’m not here to argue with you, but some myths I just cannot let go by….Tubby was not run out of town. He resigned to the well wishes of the bluegrass, both from people who were happy to see him go and from his many MANY supporters all across the bluegrass because he still had MANY supporters. The fact is his final years were absolutly an embarressment when it came to recruiting, and both him and the school realized it was best for him to part ways. We here wish him all the well and hope he does well in Minnesota. Kentucky went from an upbeat style of play with Pitino to a slow half court with Tubby and fans didn’t want that style of play. Finally, Tubby bowed out gracefully and I for one hope he wins the Big 10 this year. All in all, both parties benefited.
Billy G was…well he was Billy G. Insulting players, calling them crybabys, throwing diapers at players because they couldn’t take his non stop verbal abuse..enough was enough and we are glad hes gone. Billy G is the one who was run out if anyone ever was, hence this ongoing lawsuit.

As for your comments about stuff I never said and regret that it is the view of my team, well, I guess you said it all.

Glad to be apart of Rock Chalk Talk ;)

A Sea Of Blue ESPN releases its preseason Top 25

Andy Katz posted his early preseason Top 25, and no I'm not Pat Fordeing when I say this. Some things that should be noted...

-4 teams from the SEc are in

-3 of out those 4 are from the SEC East

-Factoring in Vandy and Florida will be the East a tough division this year.

-UL is nowhere to be found and rightfully so.

-Siena? Really?

-Katz puts us at #7 and backs it up by saying without veteran perimtere play, he can't put the Cats any higher without seeing the new players in action.

Poll
Do you think the Cats are ranked where they should be?
Yes--right on the money
146 votes
No--they should be higher (1-6)
49 votes
No--they should be lower (8-25)

I'm getting really sick of pat forde and his hatred for uk. I never heard anything out of him until we hired Cal, and now all of the sudden he writes numerous smart ass columns. total chotch

A Sea Of Blue Roster breakdown (official)

There has been a lot of speculation on our part about our roster next year and it was only a matter of time before places like ESPN and Rivals did the same.

http://kentucky.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=943715

Catspause.com breaks down each player we have on scholarship as well as their competition.

We have 16 scolly players and 13 spots..what to do what to do..

If I'm Cal, williams is an obvioius choice. Next would have to be Harrellson and AJ Stewart, (going with the unspoken rule seniors stay on roster) There really isnt much chocie beyond that unless Liggins goes.

What do you all think?

A Sea Of Blue Hansbrough won't play Tuesday

Just read on catspause that he will not play in our matchup with them on Tuesday. Here is the link to it, though it will suit you better if you have a full access pass.

http://kentucky.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.asp?ReturnTo=&sid=&script=content.asp&cid=878024&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=

Tell you what though...without Hansbrough playing, it will make what ever happens negative. What I mean is, if DID play, though he won't apprently, even if he did and we won, people like dick vitale would say "Well they won cause Tyler wasn't 100%" same goes if he doesn't play. Tyler doesn't play then "We won cause he wasn't in"  If we lose with hansbrough playing, then he will be glorified as being the toughest kid on the planet to play injured and still win. I think no matter what, people will try to discredit this game if and when we win. (Yes that is optimisim...there is no room for BBN to say we will lose. what kind of talk is that????)

A Sea Of Blue Over-ranked. Over-hyped.

Is anyone else sick and tired of seeing these no bodies ranked in the top 25? BYU and their 16 game win streak...excuse me, their former 16 game win streak. who have they played so far this year? and last year?? They have barely even played ranked teams and when they did, it was ugly. TCU? A team that has played absolutly nobody and got into the rankings by defeating....who? They got thumped by Oklahoma this year and UCLA last year, the only ranked teams they have faced in the last 2 regualr seasons. Oh yeah..and BYU, the same BYU team that has never played anyone. What about South Florida? They play in the Big east...that alone is enough to have them not be even eligible for a ranking. I am so sick and tired of seeing SEC teams passed up because once we start playing each other, one team has to lose. This knocks all of us out of the national title race, so teams like Penn state and oklahoma state and texas tech can get a chance. Its embaressing. The Big 12 is the only other conference I can give a nod to, as they have taletned teams like oklahoma dn texas that could give the likes of LSU, bama dn florida a run. It really gets me and ESPN jumps ALL over the bandwagon of undefeated nobodies. Remember Hawaii last year? They rose their "undefeated" train right into a merciless Georgia team. boise State had the same problem 2 years ago. Once they step into a real football world, they get crushed. I don't understand. Does anyone else share this view?

I don't have the insiders thing so i can't actaully read it but the title of the article is "Patterson: NBA dreams can wait". If anyone has a subscription to rivals it would be awesome for you to figure out what this means.

A Sea Of Blue Patterson leaving early...not so fast

I've been reading and hearing from a lot of places about how Patterson is going to leave early for the league. It hasn't been discussion or the possibility of such an event, just he's gone after this year, plain and simple. I disagree. Both his father and mother believe strongly in an edcuation and stated before he came here for his freshman year that he would be staying all 4 years. His parents have surely passed this mentality onto their son i would think and in addtion to that, the desicion to go pro is not one made over night. It is a triangle of discussion, that is, the player, the coach and the parents will all take part in the choice. The way i see it, 2/3 of that equation will be telling him to stay.

Now i know patterson is a big boy and a legal adult so he makes choices for himself, but the way his family spoke, I would think patterson leaving early is not a lock as it is being presented. I'm not saying it won't happen by any means, i just don't agree with the way everyone is talking about it. Your fella's thoughts? disagreements are appreciated.

A Sea Of Blue Mark Coury gone?

I've gotten wind of Mark Coury's release from the basketball team with basically a "best of wishes" type of statement.

I love the kid as much as the next and i know he's very intelligent and what not, but he isn't exactly a basketball star and he caused me a lot of frusteration this season.

Any truth to this?? If so, anyone got any clue as to what the ramifications were?

I'll check tomorrow at work but I'm tired as crap so I wanted to see if maybe you guys could dig something up.
