Hillman says Gload’s contributions merit regular duty

This was reported by Bob Dutton This morning. "Manager Trey Hillman remains disinclined to shift Guillen to designated hitter and replace Gload at first with Billy Butler.

“Ross is very good around the bag,” Hillman said, “very sure-handed and more experienced. And Ross has been swinging the bat pretty good, both against left- and right-(handers). He’s had quality at-bats.

“Defensively, I don’t think the trade-off is good enough to make that trade-off defensively.”

Here are some more words of wisdom.

"Hillman said Butler could play first in the future."

“Nobody is done anywhere,” Hillman said. “I’m not going to say you’re not going to see Billy (at first) but, for today, you’re going to see Ross at first.

Well I have a question for Mr. Hillman. If he wants Gload in the lineup, then DH him. This team is not going anywhere this year so lets use the rest of the year to find out if Butler can play 1st by playng him there every day. It is insane to have a 22 year old prospect DH.

Also, if Gload is hitting good, why bat him ninth and our 2nd baseman 3rd. I beginning to wonder about HIllman. One last word, I like Russ Gload because of his work eithic, but he does not represent the Royals future.

Lets add some "pop" to the lineup

Down here in the South, FSN and Comcast Cable televise the Cardnials, Astros and Rangers almost every night and after watching the Rangers this season, I have convinced myself that many times hitting overcomes pitching and defense. For example, last night the Rangers were down 8 to 0 in the second inning, they lost the game, but came back to make it an exiting 9 to 6 ballgame. I love watching their games because with their lineup, they are hardly ever out of a ballgame.

So, I got to thinking lets go for offense the 2nd half of the season. I would like to see us bring up Maier and Shealy and platoon them with Teahen and Butler and have one of the four as DH every night. That lineup looks pretty formidable on paper and would create much needed competition. As for the players I would send down, they would be Pena and Garthwright.

So I would like to hear from you on this lineup, what do you think ?

Thank you Dayton Moore

I was looking at the Royals stats after today's game (good game Luke) and I saw where Jose Guillen and Migel Olivo have 73 RBI's between them out of a team total of 223. That is roughly about 32 %. That got me to thinking about what a good pickup both these players were and where we would be today without them. Dayton Moore may get us a stinker now and then, but for the most part he has brought good players to the Royals. These guys look like they know how to win games. If only they could transfer that to the other players.

Powder Blue

I did not want to bring up this subject while the losing streak was going on because I did not wish to pile on, but now that we won last night and I fully expect us to win today and win the series, I would like to bring up something that has bugged me all year and would like your opinion. Its those awful powder blue jerseys. To me, when the Royals were them, they look like a softball team. Its just the wrong combination with the white pants. In the past, they were used on the road and they were a full blue road uniform. The white home uniform looks much better and much more professional. God, I hope they get rid of them.

Comments after 25% of games played

Dayton Moore says he would evaluate the team and players after 40 games are played. Well, here are my views and comments on the team:

1. Starting pitching has been excellent and with Hochaver, we have 5 ligitimate starters. If injury occurs, I think Davies will be called up. He is doing well in Omaha.

2. Bullpen has been good, and Soria has been lights out. I think Peralta is our weak link there and Yubata will be better in time. Gobble has good and bad days. The rest have been solid.

3. Hitting has been poor and has cost us games. Now that Guillen is hot we are winning, when he cools off, we will start losing again unless other players start producing.

4. As much as I like the guy on and off the field, it appears that Mark Teahen is a punch and spray hitter and not a player who can drive balls on a consistent basis. His defefense will keep him in the lineup, but it will be interesting if Mitch Maier keeps up his pace in Omaha. Teahen s/b no higher than the 6 or 7 hole in lineup.

5. I can take TP's bad hitting if he holds up his end of fielding, but lately, he has been making too many errors, if that continues, you can't start a player who can't hit and makes too many errors.

6. Gordon and Butler are hitting just about what I thought they would and Butler is doing a good job at 1st which frees up another player for that role.

7. Olivo was another great acquision by DM and has pushed Buck.

8. I like the way Hillman has handled the pitching and how he makes pitching changes.

All in all, I like this team and think we can compete in this division.

Our Man Rowdy

My man Rowdy Hardy, who I am pulling for this year, did not get off to a very good start for the Royals AA team, the Naturals. In his 1st outing, he pitched 3.2 innings giving up 9 hits, 4 earned runs, no walks and struck out 2 for a 9,82 era. Some people have stated that his slow pitch style would not work once he was promoted to AA. It certainly did not work for him ths time. Only time will tell if he will improve once he adjusts to AA hitters.
