Super Bowl XLIV predictions
Colts vs Saints. Many in the media have already gave their picks. Deacon Jones picked the Saints because Freeney won't even play (he prefers Jared Allen over Free, so, just ignore that). Jim Kelly picked the Colts. Obviously people prefer the Saints over the Colts but that really doesn't matter at all. The media will talk and talk but I'm more interested in what all of you guys have to say.
Share your predictions, numbers, MVP candidates, etc. Here's mine:
Colts 38 - Saints 31
MVP candidates:
Peyton Manning. 358 yds, 4 TD passes. No INTs.
Joseph Addai. 101 yds 65 receiving yds. 2 rushing TDs
Gary Brackett. 11 tackles. 2 sacks. 2 INTs
Well, I'm done. I will love Manning destroying the Saints, and while they will play their top game, it won't be enough. It may be tied in the 4th quarter, but a game-winning drive by Peyton will win the Colts their 2nd Super Bowl in Indy.
GO COLTS!
Homefield advantage? The Luke's roof (lid)
Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium (via Indy Wayne)
Yesterday, we all saw how the Luke had its amazing roof opened for a sunny game against the 49ers.
But was it a good thing or a bad thing?
Well, it seems that, at some plays (mostly in the beginning of the game as I remember), the glare affected our guys, while trying to catch the ball. Passes should've been caught but still, sun was a factor.
I went to colts.com yesterday, and found this:
"STADIUM ROOF OPEN TODAY. PLEASE DRESS FOR OUTDOOR WEATHER."
Now, I've never been to Indiana, but I assume the weather is quite cold so, maybe they opened it so the sun could warm up the field. But, besides that, I can't really find any other reason of why it would be a good thing to have that thing open.
If it was natural grass, it would be quite useful. It isn't.
If it was during the summer, it would be also useful so you could have some warm environment. Well, its use is mostly for fall or winter (at least for football)
In snowy days, you have to close it or you should close it. For extremely cold days, people would prefer it closed and have heaters do their thing. So , it seems that it would be better if the roof would remain closed. I mean, that's why they played in a dome for several years, right? Thats why they built a stadium that could be closed, right?
As we saw yesterday, and in some other games, the glare is not something we could benefit from. It causes good players to miss some balls. The crowd does its thing, but the structure does not.
I mean, it's amazing in terms of engineering/architecture but for its use and conditions, I find it like some kind of waste or more than so, it is just in the inappropiate place. I do like it, but it just seems that it would be better to keep it closed. Like a $100 million better.
So, what do you think? Is it useful? For you guys that have been there or live in Indy, how is it better?
Maradona: "I want to be Peyton Manning"
Haven't seen this article in an English site. I got this from espndeportes.com, which is, as you can tell, the latinamerican version of ESPN.
It says that some diary interviewed the, arguably, best soccer player of all time (If you are a sports fan, you must know Diego A. Maradona). He was asked if he liked football to what he answered: "Yes, I love it...not any particular team but I liked Brett Favre, who just left New York. I want to be Peyton Manning".
I think its awesome that one of the greatest sportsman of all time admires #18. It just shows how great Manning is in the sports world, not just football. Both Manning and Maradona have similar places in sports history, as being from the greatest players of their respective sports (if not the absolute best). Hope it is later posted in an English site so you can read the whole thing.
Michael Jackson Dies
Everybody probably knows by now that MJ is dead. Sad news for the whole world. One of the all time music icons is now a legend.
R.I.P.
Colts reestructure Reggie Wayne's contract
Good move to save some space on the salary cap. Lets just wait for the details and specific numbers.
Someone interested in T.O.?
According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, there are SEVERAL teams interested in T.O. Obviously (and fortunately) , the Colts wont be one of these teams.
The question is, which team will be brave enough to try to get him? I'll mention a few, maybe Oakland, Minnesota, Tennessee, Miami, Kansas City or even the New York Jets. I heard about New England, but having Moss there makes it nearly impossible.
Rosenhaus says that he expects T.O. to be signed by the end of the week. So, share your thoughts, even if you think Owens would be a nice add to the Colts.

Edge pleading to be released
This has been commented a lot but now it is about to happen.
According to Adam Schefter, Edgerrin James pleaded to be cut. He spoke with GM Rod Graves and he will eventually be cut.
Its not that this is something surprising or new, but, which would be Edge's team next season? Can he be considered a REAL option for the Colts?

Saturday wont be back
I was just reading adam schefter's top free agents (position by position) and i read something that quite disturbed me:
Offensive linemen
1. Jason Brown, Ravens (C-G) -- Would not be surprising to see the Dolphins make a major push for him.
2. Jon Stinchcomb, Saints (T) -- The top tackle free agent has been a full-time starter for Saints.
3. Jeff Saturday, Colts (C) -- Colts already have informed him they don’t expect to bring him back.
4. Stacy Andrews, Bengals (T) -- The Bengals franchise player last offseason, he suffered a serious knee injury this season.
5. Khalif Barnes, Jaguars (T) -- It’s rare that a 26-year-old starting left tackles hit the market.
Sleeper: Ray Willis, Seahawks -- Pay attention to his name; the contract he lands is going to be eye opening.
Hope this is wrong, but if Schefter says it, then it may be what everyone had feared...
Albert Haynesworth coming to Indy???
Hey guys. First post here :) Well, I was watching NFL Total Access on the NFL Network and Steve Wyche examined what could happen to some of the top free agents in 09. I was quite surprised that Wyche thinks the Colts could make a strong push for Haynesworth. Dont really know if that could happen, but it would be an awesome add to our D (actually to any D). Its nice that after what happened at the Pro Bowl, the Colts might actually try to bring him. If you wanna see the vid, its already on nfl.com.
