WHO ARE WE?

This question came to mind as I read the comments in EX G's post "Evaluating Eddie's Experience". I was struck by Holmdel's quote from Bill Parcels "you are what you are" and started wondering;

WHO ARE WE?

One of the consistent observations about the Kings this past season was that they didn't play like a team, that they didn't trust each other and as soon as the first stress point came in a game we reverted to iso basketball, ball movement stopped, floor communication was minimal and the team never coalesced into something that was greater than it's parts.

Entering into the 09-10 season we have Beno, Kevin,Cisco, Donte',Nocs, JT and Spence. Depending on the draft maybe we resign Ike, maybe not. We will have 3 rookies and maybe a FA signing (hope not) or a player picked up in a trade (who is traded?). This is who we are.

When you look at this group of players what do you see? What is the area of commonality in their games? What do you see among these players that you would identify as a either a in common or complementary strength (s)? When you look at our core players do you see a group of men drafted, traded or signed specifically to play together for a common purpose?

This is what a new coach will see coming in. Obviously the draft and any players acquired or traded over the summer are going to be huge for us. I think G's post (good as always) is putting the cart before the horse. Before we discuss the new coach specifically I would like to hear what you think are the 3 - 5 priorities that you guys believe are necessary for the new coach to achieve?

Put another way: if the new coach is successful in implementing your most important issues and considering our core players what type of team do you see going into the 10-11 season?

I was just catching up on my basketball reading and came across this post from Tim Kawakami @ the SJMerc News stating that our fears of the Kings relocating to San Jose are far from a done deal.

Blake Griffin

There has been a lot of Rickey Rubio love around here lately and almost universal disdain for Blake Griffin's game. Griffin, the consensus # 1 draft pick across the board had a great game at Oklahoma State leading his team with 26 points and 19 boards, one massive blocked shot and 38 minutes of great hops, good speed and handle, huge heart and team leadership.

He shot 11 field goals making 9 of them and all the shots from the field were made while he was doubled and sometimes triple teamed.

He's a good passer with good court vision. I don't know what his wingspan is be he made some unreal rebounds and had very good anticipation for where to position himself to get all those boards. He got his 16th double - double for the season and his 10th 20/15 to lead both Paul Milsap and Tim Duncan who each had 9 in their college careers. Through this point of the season he's averaging 22 points and 14 boards.

So, who watched the game tonight? If you did, can you see a way that Geoff Petrie could fit Blake Griffin onto the King's roster? Oklahoma beat the Nets tonight meaning that based on the way they are playing it's going to between us and the <strike>Wizards</strike> Bullets fighting it out for last place and a wealth of ping pong balls.

Thoughts on Brad

I retrack what I said in an earlier thread today and am stronly feeling that Brad's usefullness to the Kings is rapidly drawing to a close. In short, with every game he plays his value and effectiveness to the Kings decreases and he;s looking more and more like a stiff.

My question to you all is what your feelings about what Brad's value to the team is.

He is close to worthless in the paint.

He is a slightly above scorer for the Kings averaging 11.8 points per game.

His average rebound per game are above average @ 8.7.

He's averaging slightly below league average @ center in blocks @ .7 per game probably brcause he doesn't like to spend much time in the paint.

He is the main distributer from high key and the argument is he makes the offense better especialy for Kevin with his strong passing, one of the best passing bigs in the league.

When his perimeter shot is falling is improves the spacing and opens up cuts to the hoop when he doesn'shoot and he has men in motion.

Having laid out his positive and negatives what are your thoughtsabout what the team should do about Brad Miller.
