Why 9-11-0 really sucks

in Bettman's NHL. Why are we all panicky? The Avs are only 2 games under .500 and the season is still relatively young, right? Wrong. Take a look at the NHL standings. The Avs are one of 9 teams out of 30 under the now mythical .500 mark. And the only team in the NW division under .500. The culprit? The dreaded point for an OTL. Luckily, the Avs have been absolute money in shootouts so far this season, going 4-0 in them, including two wins against division rivals. But the standings don't give you this info. In reality, the Avs have managed to accumulate 18 points so far this year, but have given other teams 26 points. So really, they are more like 9-13, even though they are only 9-11. Confused? Good, that's the way Bettman likes it.

AD Lays the Smackdown

Mostly on FG's decision to let Bruno go. Also on keeping Arny (but really, is anyone else in the NHL dumb enough to trade for him .... other teams have "scouts" and "film," don't they?), picking up Tucker, and thinking Jones was going to be more than he currently is (I'm guilty of that as well, wait, I forgot about that batting 1.000 thing, never mind). Also on how much they are currently getting from their top line, which is very deserved criticism. Stats has been especially "meh" lately.

Remember that little exchange we had a few days ago, before the Calgary debacle and after SoS signed his mega deal, about the letter A? Jibble introduced it, turning an innocent discussion about the Av captaincy in the official SoS post into a discussion of the letter A as it relates to our favorite player, Arnason. What followed was a discharge of adjectives and nouns describing Arny and his "efforts" with the Avs, all starting with the letter A. I chimed in first with "Awful." The better half of the forgotten contributor to this site struck gold with "Atrocious." Just a few posts later tommelot nailed Arny with "Abysmal."

Now, I actually used to write sports for my college paper. And I know that one thing writers do is come up with possible leads for stories before games are over. Well, looky here at AD's lead for his Calgary game story:

The Avalanche brought its "A" game to the Pengrowth Saddledome on Tuesday night: Awful. Atrocious. Abysmal. Take your pick of adjectives.

Do we need any more proof that AD lurks here at MHH?

Here is a new post devoted to rallying our guys with lingerie pics. Joe made me do it. I say it is OK for the girls in our ranks to post whatever they see as appropriate as well. Although Per Ledin is not up with the Avs to enjoy your offerings of dudes painted gold. Man, I need to write more words to make this a fan post I guess. So I'll ramble on a bit here to complete my 75 word requirement. I feel like I'm back in school bs'ing my way through an essay. Except I never posted pics of women in lingerie in my essays.

[Joe here - let's keep this relatively clean, kids. NO nudity, NO explicit sexual content, and NO weird, creepy or clearly underage images of any kind. Attractive women in bras and panties is okay. Bob's contribution below is an excellent example of what is considered acceptable. And ladies, don't feel excluded!

Just a rumor from hockeybuzz. Full text to rumor below:

Sundin and Foppa Rocky Mountain High?

Rumours today from Sweden and America are confirming a rumour I heard a few weeks ago that Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg may be planning a joint return to Colorado in early 2009. According to the Swedish source, "All the players at the morning skate yesterday were talking about this including one player who lives very near to and talks to Sundin all of the time."

The source out in California concurred saying that he had a conversation with a person in the Avalanche organization who confirmed that there was "a definite interest in both Swedes and that preliminary planning had taken place for the last month."

I am not a fan of two players coming on board mid-season at all for what it says to the guys who have been there all along, but how do you argue that two guys of this ilk can't help a team?
