When Alex Gonzalez walked into the Atlanta clubhouse for the first time, the Braves' players gave him a standing ovation.

Sorry I don't have more pictures.  I don't have the best camera in the world and I grabbed 3 SD cards on my way out.  One wouldn't work and the other 2 were full of baby pictures which I couldn't delete.  I'll try to do better tomorrow and I hope you enjoy them anyway.

Talking Chop MLB.tv question

So a buddy of mine lost his balls recently (got married) and can't watch the game on TV tonight.  So I gave him my mlb.tv login info to watch online.  Now when the MLB Extra Innings free preview is over and I have resort back to MLB.tv, should I tell him to not login anymore?  Will they notice if the login is used at the same time in 2 different locations?

Didn't have any link to share so I didn't want this to be a fanshot.  Sorry if it's not fanpost material.

Talking Chop What If Wednesday ideas

So I thought maybe we could give gondeee some ideas for his What If Wednesday series.  I know I have questions based on both the past and the future that I would like to see discussed.

What if Bobby Cox pulls a Favre and decides he wants to hang on for another year?  Will he be allowed to do so?  WIll he be forced out by management?

What if Derek Lowe struggles out of the gate?  Will he be allowed to keep his spot in the rotation?  Will he be moved to the 5th spot to skip some starts here and there?  Will he be moved to the pen in order to bring up a more valuable starter?

From the archives, What if the Braves had signed Barry Bonds instead of Greg Maddux?  Would the 14 year streak have developed?  Would there be more than one WS title?

Feel free to add your own.

He has some good points, but as far as being marketable, no way Damon would become the face of the Braves, as Shanks seems to suggest.

Blurb is about a 1/4 of the way down the page. He states he is open to starting or closing. Braves need bullpen help. Would he swallow his pride and possibly become our closer? Would he come back to be middle relief? Or would he not come back at all?

Talking Chop Rockies or Phillies

I meant to ask this during the Phils/Giants series but this one works just as well.  I'm interested to know which of these teams you are rooting for?  Are you still hoping to win the East, thereby hoping for a couple of Rockies wins?  Or do you think the WC would be the easier route and wish the Phils would sweep?

As of now, I'm really not sure how I hope the series turns out, but I'm leaning towards hoping to catch the Phils and let the WC take care of itself.

Talking Chop When does Soriano become the closer?

No, this is not to bash Gonzo, as I really like the way he pitches.  But so far he hasn't looked that great.  Soriano, barring last year's craziness, has been an unstoppable force since he came over to the Bravos.  If Gonzo has a couple more outings like last and opening night, are you in favor of moving Soriano to the closing role?  How would that affect Gonzo's psyche?  Gonzo's big plus is he's a lefty he's greatly suited for the NL East with all their left handed bats.

The first person that came to mind after reading this post was Prado. I don't really know of anything the Astros have that we could use (sans Berkman, Lee, and Oswalt) and I know they don't have a very good farm. So I suppose I may be way off.

It seems as though it's either Perez or Lowe for them. If they sign Perez, maybe it'll help us get Lowe without having to overpay.
And $10 million per year isn't bad for Perez if he accepts.

Talking Chop Do we still have $40 million to spend?

So if we have $40 million left to spend, what would be your choice on how to spend the money?

I say resign Smoltz for around $10 million.  I don't think with his injury that this would be low balling it.  Maybe even throw some incentives into the deal.

Next, sign Sheets.  Maybe 2 years $25million.

Next, resign Ohman.  I think he'd take $3-4 million per seeing as how it would double last year's salary.

Finally, sign Dunn.  I know Wren is looking for a right handed stick, but 40 HR is 40HR, I don't care what side of the plate it comes from.  I'm hoping it would only take about $13 million seeing as how there doesn't seem to be much interest.

This is based purely on free agents.  I don't even want to get into trades, b/c there's too much involved.  And it still leaves us a few million for other things.  This leaves out Glavine, though maybe he'd sign a low ball contract with incentives.  It's pretty much Atlanta or retire so if he wants to play he'll give them a deal.

So what would you do?  How far off am I on my salary projections?  Anybody you'd rather see instead?

Talking Chop Wren playing with monopoly money?

Got this from another board.  Guy says he saw it on ESPN.  But there's no link so take it with a grain of salt:

CC Sabathia:

The Braves offer to CC: 6 years, 110 million
The Yankee's offer to CC: 6 years, 142 million

AJ Burnett:

The Braves offered AJ: 4 years, 62 million
The Yankees offered AJ: 4 years, 60 million

Ryan Dempster:

The Braves offered Ryan: 4 years, 67 million
The Cubs offered Ryan: 4 years, 58 million

Talking Chop Best farm system

So with all the Peavy talk, we keep seeing how some teams do and don't have the prospects to even make a trade that large.  So how do the Braves rank in terms of having the best farm?  I'm sure there are rankings out there so where can I find them?

And on a side note, I may be moving to Atlanta in a few months, and as much I'd like to be in town for a season in which we may compete for a title, I think I'm off the Peavy bandwagon, at least as for as trading Hanson is concerned.

Talking Chop Noob here

Too elated to sleep, I decide to read the in-game blog going on and I noticed some nicknames, etc that I'm not familar with.  I've been checking this site for a few weeks now, but normally stick to Gondee's posts.  So if anybody can give me the origins of these, I'd greatly appreciate it.

SK - Kotsay

FYF - Francoeur

Vidro - double play

If there are any others I should be aware of, please let me know.

Thanks, and go braves.
