Ok - I might be getting paranoid, but how many of you BFTB members have noticed that the new commercial for the Bud Light Fantasy Football League has a blatant bias against the San Diego Chargers? All the people in the ad are wearing their team's jerseys and swag, talking about how great their "player" did, until we come to the Charger fan, who says something like " my player fumbled on the 3 yard line." WHAT!!! A Phillip Rivers reference of fumbling against the Chiefs? Are you kidding me? All the other teams get props, but the Bolts get a kick in the groin. The writer of this Bud Light spot must be a Raiders shill. WTF? Is it just a coincidence that it was a guy with a Chargers jersey? The reference to fumbling at the 3 is just to specific to not be talking about Rivers. That's it: I'm boycotting Budweiser in all it's forms!

As a Charger fan I feel like the passerby of a train wreck – I know I shouldn’t look, but that fallen part of my humanity causes me to want to see the carnage. It was torturous watching that Monday night game, and there was a constant sense of foreboding that something bad was going to happen (every time we got inside the Chiefs 40!). This team in particular finds new ways to surprise you (mostly bad), but I just can’t enjoy it.

This must be what a drug addict feels like – you know this thing is killing you (being a fan of the Bolts), but you just can’t quit. In a way I envy the fans of the bottom dwelling teams that are never expecting a win, but sometimes are surprised when they get one. All we ever hear is about the Chargers POTENTIAL, but that is wearing very thin. Now even the one player we could count on in the past to be consistently good (Rivers) is having a bad year. That fumbled snap when victory was within our reach was like taking a bite out of a dog crap sandwich. Hard to swallow and it left a terrible taste in your mouth!

I’ve tried to lower my expectations and trick myself into saying I expect them to lose every game, but it just doesn’t work. I’m a Chargers fan – I want them to win! I expect them to win! Every year I hope this is the year they win the Super Bowl. My wife suggests that I DVR the game (which I do), wait until it is over, check the score on the internet, and then watch the game knowing the outcome in advance (which I don’t do). It would be less stressful, better for my health and blood pressure, better for my marriage (and my neighbors), and more enjoyable over all.

But I just can’t do that. I’m a fan, and I want the full experience of the fan (in HD) with all the highs and lows, living and dying with my team. This year has been especially painful so far, but no rehab for me – I’m hopelessly addicted.

I'm so tired of helmets flying off in all levels of football, and it is caused by helmets that are not fitted properly! I would say that 99% of the time the "hat" come off the player's helmet is too loose, and they have picked that size for comfort and not for safety. If the NFL is so concerned about head injuries, why not make it a helmet issue as well. A loose helmet does not protect the player as well, and when it comes off they are at extreme risk as of serious injury. Equipment managers need to fit the helmet better, and the league could implement a rule where the team is penalized 5 yard anytime a helmet comes off in the course of a play (when the headgear of face mask is not pulled by an opponent). I would much rather see this rule change than some of the ridiculous "targeting" or other over reaction calls for the hard tackles that are part of the game of football. I predict that you will see more and more serious injuries from loose helmets in the future until the league does something about it. Give them a helmet that fits, strap it down, and let them play football!

He looked very good as a replacement for Miles Austin. He had a good preseason with the Chargers, but did not make the final roster. Is he better than Goodman or Walters? Time will tell. While the Bots have pick up some good wide receivers over the years from other teams, they have let their share of good ones go as well. Some of you with a memory for this might list a few of the ones that got away.

2010 Chargers – The Stupidest Team in the NFL?

After today’s debacle against New England, I think a good case could be made that this is the stupidest team in the NFL. And it’s not just me: Nick Canepa of the Union Tribune said this week before this game that the Chargers “just aren’t very smart,” and John Ireland of KCBS stated twice after today’s game that the Chargers were “the most stupid team in the history of the league.” Just a few examples from this FUBAR of a game: Goodman leaving the ball on the ground after a catch and not being touched (this is not the NCAA, dude). Hester standing like a statue after Rivers’ swing pass is missed (they teach to go after the ball in this situation in Pop Warner). Garay’s idiotic unsportsmanlike penalty after a dead ball to extend the NE drive. Brown’s kick out of bounds to give NE the ball at the 40 after the Chargers pull within 3. Illegal procedure penalty on Vasquez (could not see who moved) on the potential tying FG that moved the ball back for a 50 yard kick (clank). There were many more, but these were just the highlights of the brain farts that the Bolts committed today. When you are in the top 3 in both offense and defense, but are 2-5, you must think that the team is very, very unlucky, or they are dumber than a bag of hammers. Or to put it more gently, they do not possess a high football I.Q. This is depressing as a Chargers fan, because it may be impossible to correct: “you just can’t fix stupid.”
