Bye Bye Bobby ( not Crosby )
I came across AN last year and have just recently started to participate. As an A's fan the frustration has never been greater ( as far as I can remember ). What should the A's do? It's still early. Any hope left for this season?
Obviously the players need to play better. Every guy needs to hold themselves accountible for what they bring to the field every day. How does this get done? How does a team turn it around? We have seen it happen many times in the past. Teams have made huge playoff runs and gone on monster winning streaks ( anybody remember a 20 game winning streak? )
IMO this is where a Manager becomes very important for a team. A team must come together as a whole. Individual performance is important in the game of baseball. Home runs, stealing bases, etc..However, even bigger is when the big hit happens or moving a runner over in a close game.
For example In today's game Casiila came in and gave up a home run right off the bat. After that he settled down and pitched pretty well. He gave up a couple hits with two outs later in the game and was at 35 pitches. Springer comes in and (Boom!!!) gives up a three run homer that puts the A's away. In other words both pitchers inherited 2 runners and they allowed them all to score. Finally my point. The A's arent playing as a team. A good team picks each other up. When one guy fails another succeeds. Simply put, the A's dont look like a TEAM right now. Maybe Kennedy is playing the way he is because he found himself back in the minor leagues and knew it was time to "ball ' up! I don't know, mabe that's a completely different topic. The A's need to " ball" up!!!
Today Bob Geren made a comment that he was happy with the effort in this series and it's time to move on. Bulls..t! is what I say! If you are happy with anything in the Detroit series you are certainly not the right guy for the job. We need a manager that will get the players to play as a team and players that will pick each other up. Casilla and Springer should be sick that they both gave up big home runs when they came in. Geren should find it unacceptable. I believe it is time for the A's to seek a manager that knows how to rally a team. Anybody can count pitches or figure out lefty vs. righty etc...
