New York has more than a couple of pressing needs right now: linebacker, defensive back and WR, but when Plax's stone hands and itchy trigger finger forced the Giants' FO to drop him like a spike-after-the-catch, WR became a glaring need. How do you fill the void left behind by a receiver who's got elite size (6'5" !!!) and good speed?

Well, I'm here to say you don't. They are rumored to be making a run at Braylon "Stone Hands II" Edwards , and it is my contention that if the Giants need a WR for 2009 that badly, and they do, then the draft is not the way to do it. You draft this year for next year's receiver, and I cannot say that often enough. RD1 WRs are a waste of money and even if they weren't, BWRA right now is Percy Harvin who is too small to be elite, or Hakeem Nicks, who is a 2nd rounder in sheep's clothing.

They have other needs, like LB and DB, and it is in that vein that I make my selection, the BPA:

James Laurinaitis, MLB, THE Ohio State University

via img257.imageshack.us

Now, I have to say that I hope this guy falls to the Steelers, and if HighSchoolSteeler is correct our main man Mr. Dick LeBeau is interested and he could be in line behind Potsie, I just think that would be grand.

Back to the New York Football Giants:

Why would they take a Mack backer for an OLB (with some DE responsibilities) position? Well, its because the boy can just play. He's three inches taller than Deebo, and already outweighs him by a few pounds. If he puts on 20 pounds of pro weight, we are talking a giant giant man. His best skills are in coverage, and is very good (not elite) against the run, so moving him outside is not what I would consider a high-risk endeavour.

So... Out of who's left, I think the Gints would be stupid not to take the 2nd best 'backer in the draft with the pick if they can get it, but in reality, the Clowns will end up with this pick, and the Steelers wont have Braylon Edwards to kick around anymore.

BTSC 2009 Community Mock Draft Team Selections

#1) Detroit Lions - Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
#2) St. Louis Rams - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
#3) Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
#4) Seattle Seahawks - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
#5) Cleveland Browns - Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas
#6) Cincinnati Bengals - Jeremy Maclin, WR/KR, Missouri
#7) Oakland Raiders - B.J.
Just read this article. Some of this we knew, much of it is brand new to me. I love the man, and I can't read enough about him.

Read the article at Cold, Hard Football Facts.

From the article:

LeBeau's playing experiences inspired the zone blitz
“If you look at the old Detroit Lions on film (when LeBeau played), you’ll see that they blitzed a lot, so he was always in man coverage,” said Troup. “He was a very good player, but when he became coach he didn’t want to leave his corners out on an island all the time in man coverage like he was.” The zone blitz was his way of combating the problem, especially in an era that easily favored the receiver. At least back in LeBeau's playing days, defenders could rough up receivers quite a bit more and had a fighting chance in man coverage.

As fun a fanpost as I've seen on BTSC. Great idea and there's some gems in the comments section. Perhaps my favorite? ' Not (1) even (2) Bruce (3) Arians (4) can (5) stop (6) us (7). Golf clap. Just kidding Bruce! We love you, we just want to see more games like last weekend! Take your turn if you haven't already done so. - Blitz-

I thought we might take our minds off of the impending weekend for just a little bit. I'd like everybody to take a crack at summarizing the season in seven words or less. This is sort of a play off of the recent trend of single-sentence books and crap like that, but who needs literature when you've got sports, amiright?

I will post my first crack at it in the thread.

Just got my tickets.

I haven't been back to Nashville in years and years, so if anyone wants to give me your list of favorite bars, or somewhere I can find other Steelers fans before the game, or if you've been to LP Field you can tell me about my seats (Loge Sec 331).

Apparently there is that Piranha Bros place which does the Primanti Bros' sandwiches, so that's on tap fo' sho'.

Anyway, I wanted to gloat a little, but since I get to approximately 1 game a year, I am pretty effing excited.

The Rog sends a white flag to Pittsburgh

ESPN article from James Walker

Interesting development here: Goodell sent a white flag of surrender in the war-of-words with the Pittsburgh organization, and had his VP of Football Ops sit down with Ward, Mr. Rooney, Coach Sunglasses and Troy to talk about the recent inflammatory comments, recent fines, and the new developments coming out of Terrell Suggs' mouth yesterday.

The best part to me was that they are committed to investigating the alleged bounties placed on Ward and Mendenhall (supposedly including the hit that took Mendenhall out for the year) and I would not be surprised to see them take action if they can find any evidence to support the notion. Evidence other than Suggs' own words, I guess.
