Stark: Phils aggressive on Contreras

7

From his rumblings and grumbling column. __________________ The free agent the Phillies have been most aggressive about trying to re-sign isn't Werth. It's right-hander Jose Contreras, who struck out 57 in 56 2/3 innings in his first full season in the bullpen. Amaro wouldn't confirm that, but did say: "We've made contact with 40 free agents, predominantly bullpen guys." He also said: "Left-handed relief is a priority for us." ______ Also... Stark's source gives us great odds on resigning Werth. "No chance. None. Zero"

MLB Forces Greenberg to apologize to Yankees

5

Anybody find this a bit disconcerting? _____________ Major League Baseball told Rangers owner Chuck Greenberg to apologize to the Yankees for comments he made about their fans coming off the ALCS. "I thought Yankee fans, frankly, were awful," Greenberg told ESPN Radio in Dallas. "They were either violent or apathetic, neither of which is good. So I thought Yankee fans were by far the worst of any I've seen in the postseason. I thought they were an embarrassment." Greenberg called Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner to apologize for his comments and issued a statement, saying Yankees fans are "passionate" and his remarks on the radio were "intemperate."

Seattle Trades Morrow to the Blow Jays

I may be paranoid, but this sounds shady as hell. Now the Jays steal Morrow from Seattle. The hands of Gillick once again. They get Morrow for peanuts, but they wouldn't trade him to us for Cliff freakin Lee????

Okay. The title is a bit unfair. Lidge certainly earned his moniker of "lights out" last year. His performance was otherwise superhuman. No blown saves? The entire year? And in the playoffs? Almost...
