Blogging The Boys Tune into ESPN 3:30 est ..BC vs Vandy...possible future Cowboys on display.

I had wanted to do this with all the bowl games, but the Cowboys recent play kinda ruined my motivation..... But now that this game is on, I think some may take interest in watching this matchup....as many position players we will be targeting in the '09 draft will be playing in this game...My two favorite targets in this year upcoming draft are :

BC's BJ Raji -NT <------- Thee ONLY true sure fire 3-4 NT in this years draft.

BC's Mark Herzlick- LB  <------ my favorite college player, and ideal 3-4 LB

THOSE TWO PLAYERS would do wonders here in Dallas, and I'd actually trade up into the first round to aquire either one of them.

BC's Ron Brace-DT is also a wide body that may fit into our NT spot, and be available when we select in rounds 2 or 3....Both teams got some pretty decent OLinemen as well, but no first day standouts worth mentioning.

Vandy's got some decent defensive players as well...keep an eye on Pat Benoist, Ryan Hamilton, and DJ Moore............

EMMITT’S NEW NAME OF THE WEEK
Posted by Mike Florio on September 14, 2008, 11:23 a.m.
During Sunday morning’s 10:00 a.m. EDT SportsCenter, ESPN’s Emmitt Smith referred to Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel as Matt "Hassel."

Four times.

We realize that we have promised not to make fun of Emmitt for a week, given that ESPN ultimately waived exclusivity as to the Ravens-Texans game that was going to be played on Monday night, and that ESPN permitted DirecTV to telecast nationally.

But we’re really not making fun of Emmitt. We’re just reporting facts.

Actually, we applaud Emmitt for changing on the fly. After host Josh Elliott properly stated Cassel’s name, Emmitt got it right.

And it’s really hard to fault Emmitt for getting Cassel’s name wrong. I mean, it’s not like Cassel’s name was mentioned in the media a million times or so this week.

I hate to bask in our promising road to the Championship.....But if we're ever gonna get over the hump, and get that #6 SB trophy before any other team can....we're gonna have to beat out a pretty damn good team in the NFC championship....and onto the SB, not to play in it...but to WIN it........well....I'm certain NE takes a step back....now Jacksonville ??....They lost both OG's, possibly for the season....THAT WILL hurt their team....a run oriented squad needs quality OG play....I hate to see guys go down...and I pray none of ours do.....BUT damn....week 1, and there's 2 sure fire SB contenders taking serious hits to their chances of even making the playoffs....I personally had SD representing the AFC in this upcoming SB, and even they are banged up, and lost to a less than stellar Carolina team missing their best player(S Smith), on the road....

Our road to the title just got a bit easier this week.....wooo hooo

Blogging The Boys I know it's not Cowboy related....but man....Tom Brady...OUT for the season....

hmmmm.....there goes one of our competitors...As much as I hate to see a player go down in any sport, especially football....Time for us to be a little selfish. I for one look forward to our beloved Cowboys winning this years Super Bowl....And if it comes at the expense of a main player, on a team that's surely a frontrunner towards  the SuperBowl race...so be it........I can only hope and pray for my own team......here's to the speedy recovery to all our injured players...and continued good health......here's a link......:

I'd sure love to get this guy into camp and see what he brings to the table....

I have long been a Culpepper follower....and if he would come play here for the league minimum.....I'd feel a whole lot more comfortable if Romo were to go down with him behind center, over BJ....

Thought i'd throw this name out here......The dude can play, has skills, and I'd be all for taking a look at him, in the absence of Austin............was outperforming many of the Miami receivers in training camp.......I'd even go out on a limb and proclaim him as good or better than Hurd at this point of his career....He's a gamer....not sure of his special teams abilities, but i'm sure he's played some .........

Blogging The Boys I found our #2 WR to stretch the field.

Ideally, We'd all love to find a Lightening BOLT that can run some go routes, some post corners, maybe even a reverse or two.....Back in the days, The Cowboys were known to think outside the box and recruit athletes with little or no football experience, example:  transitioning other position players into WR's, Safties, etc., baseball players, basketball players, track and field guys, etc....We hit big with Bob Hayes, we tried to pursued Carl Lewis, Ben Johnson was targeted......really....to some extend Jerry has the same thinking, bringing in ex college QB's Crayton, Stanback, Polk.....all with the common goal of finding an elite athlete with speed, strength, and versatility to become a playmaking WR for the Dallas Cowboys....

After thinking about the ideal speed threat we so desire...I decided to look into these guys running over in China right now.....You want a guy with refined physical attributes...Tall, lean, powerful, and of course stupid fast.....OK....I am not sure if this guy, or any of the guys have any dreams or aspirations to be a Calvin Johnson and reap the rewards of multi million dollar contracts playing in professional football.....maybe they make enough just doing the track thing....not sure....BUT, If I owned an NFL team....be damn sure, I'd be trying to sign this human rocket from Jamaica.....6'5" 210lbs+, strong, chiseled, athletic, freakish abilities, large hands, exceptional quickness for a man his size, and of course....THE FASTEST MAN IN THE WORLD. and it's not even close......

Blogging The Boys Here's our new #2 QB

It's been announced that Brett "Drama Queen" Farve has been traded to the New York Jets......To make room for Brett and his 12 million dollar salary, There will be an expected release of one other existing QB's......Chad Pennington / at 6 million is more than likely gone from the Jets come thursday morning......

Jerry must do everything in his power to aquire this guy as insurance for our dynasty run of the next several years ...I am sure we can get him fairly cheap (2.5-3 million per) to back up Romo......I'd sure sleep a whole lot better with Pennington over Brad..........thoughts ?

CARTER IN, EMMITT OUT ON SUNDAY NFL COUNTDOWN
Posted by Mike Florio on July 29, 2008, 10:34 a.m.
It’s official. Emmitt Smith will not be part of ESPN’s two-hour pregame show, NFL Countdown, in 2008.

ESPN is expected to make the formal announcement soon.

Emmitt will be replaced by Cris Carter, whose enhanced visibility could help his chances of getting into the Hall of Fame on the second try. (Then again, if Carter does a bad job or comes off as a blowhard, it could hurt him.)

Emmitt will remain on Monday Night Countdown, and he’ll have a role on the Sunday morning pre-Countdown version of SportsCenter.

The Sunday NFL Countdown lineup will consist of Chris Berman, Mike Ditka, Carter, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, and Chris Mortensen.

Monday nights from Bristol also will feature Berman, Ditka, Carter, Jackson, Johnson, and Mortensen. Stationed at the game sites will be Stuart Scott, Smith, and Steve Young.

Also, it appears that Suzy Kolber and Michele Tafoya, who reportedly have been nudged out of the MNF broadcast (or, at a minimum, given minimal roles) will be reporting extensively for ESPN during pre-game and post-game coverage. This could mean reduced presence and/or involvement at the game locations of folks like Rachel Nichols, Sal Paolantonio, and Ed Werder.

UPDATE: Newcomer Trent Dilfer is expected to be a contributor to Monday Night Countdown, and to become a fixture on shows like NFL Live.

Blogging The Boys The new benchmark for Canty signing ??

ok.....The ONLY player left that should be extended sometime soon, in the upcoming months is restricted free agent -DE Chris Canty, who I personally believe is our best D Lineman right now, and has shown many flashes of excellence, has remained relatively healthy, and still has much upside to become a Trevor Pryce, Richard Seymour type impact rush end in our system. I was figuring possibly a little bit more than we gave Ratliff to extend....but a very similiar DE just signed a whopping extension that very well will have an effect Jerry's and Stephen's negotiating leverage.........here's a link to the new contract signed by San Diego's 3-4 DE Louis Castillo, 43.1 million / 18 in bonuses over 5 years.......who I think is a tremendous talent, and still only 24 years old.....but he's missed 13 games over the past 2 seasons.....and STILL got this contract...

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8096fa47&template=with-video&confirm=true

.It only makes me wonder what Canty's demands will be now in light of this recent signing of comparable talent.....I say Canty gets signed to a 5 year / 35 million dollar contract......15 million bonus.........only time will tell............

MENDENHALL ALMOST QUIT FOOTBALL LAST YEAR
Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2008, 6:08 p.m. EDT
In April, running back Rashard Mendenhall became a first-round draft pick, landing with the Steelers.

It almost didn’t happen.

According to the Urbana/Champaign News-Gazette, Mendenhall nearly quit football prior to the 2007 season.

"I sat down and I was like, ‘If this is what football is, I don’t know if I want to do that anymore,’" Mendenhall said. "I’m not soft at all. I’m not scared of adversity. I’m don’t care if somebody’s yelling at me. That’s not what it was about at all.

"I want to be happy in my life. I know I can walk away from this. I know I can finish school, get a job."

Mendenhall’s brother, Walter, talked him into sticking with it, intervening just as Mendenhall was preparing to walk out of the team’s facility.

Though the specifics aren’t clear (apart from a vague reference by Mendenhall to "things that were said"), Mendenhall had a problem of some sort with coach Ron Zook. "To tell you the truth," Mendenhall said, "as long as Ron Zook is there it will be hard for me to support the University of Illinois football team."

We’ve got a feeling that, eventually, we’ll be hearing more about whatever it was that has created a fractured relationship between the two men.

Blogging The Boys Does anyone here actually live in the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area ?

I'm just looking to gauge the local fan base, and maybe get some insight on how it really is there, as far as economy, weather, crime, housing, activities, attractions, night life, etc..... I have very few passions in life. One thing that remains constant is my love of The Dallas Cowboys. I can't even begin to explain the desire to become a season ticket holder, and be able to see each and every home game...Should I uproot my current status and head west ? ....that is the question...If there are people living in the area, or others who have shared the same dream to move to Dallas...I'd love to hear from you....

I am known to make rash/off the cuff decisions, and moving to Dallas is now on my plate for the pondering.....

I'm single, never married, with no children. I have always wanted to move to the Dallas area to be closer to my team...I have had business ventures and can eventually start up another business there once I get settled. I've enjoyed  a rewarding career which lets me travel anywhere I want and obtain work with a mere phone call. I have aquired many skills that give me the ability to land a job no problem....I'm in the contruction industry, and from what i've read, new construction is plentiful in the D/FW area....and housing is very modestly priced....SURE I can continue to watch my team every week on TV.......but.....you can't beat tailgating and live football.........I'd love to find a place near the new stadium, and who knows....even have my fellow bloggers from all over the country stop by and go to the game.....

I'd like some feedback.....am I really that much of a Cowboy fanatic to move my ass to Dallas ????  ask yourself that...and get back to me...

regarding the challenges presented by players like Pacman Jones, who’ll be a Cowboy if/when he’s reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Says Emmitt: "You can be with the guy and in his ear 24 hours a day, but at the end of the day you can’t be there the whole time."

VIKES BREAK THE BANK FOR ALLEN
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2008, 11:48 p.m.
In addition to the three 2008 draft picks that the Minnesota Vikings gave up in order to acquire the rights to defensive end Jared Allen, the Vikes have made defensive end Jared Allen the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

Per Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, Allen will get a six-year, $74 million deal, with $31 million in guaranteed money.

Actually, the guarantee is $31,000,069. That’s right . . . "Wine ‘em, dine ‘em, 69 ‘em."

The deal surpasses the deal paid a year ago by the Colts to defensive end Dwight Freeney, with $30 million guaranteed on a six-year, $72 million contract.

The risk that the Vikings are taking is huge, given Allen’s history with the whole glug-glug, vroom-vroom thing. But it’s apparent that the Vikings have done plenty of homework, and are comfortable that Allen’s drinking days are behind him.

Ok......Chad Johnson's situation seems to be getting out of control...I don't see us giving up 2 1st rounders to aquire him.....To think the dumb azz Bungles would probably balk at that too, makes me think of how lucky we are that we don't have to follow a joke of a team like that...

Anyhow.....Appearantly reported on NFL Network, Anquan Boldin is pulling a Chad Johnson type approach to getting more money......As reported on ProFootballTalk.com....

ANQUAN ASKS OUT
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2008, 9:08 p.m.
The formula is getting as predictable as it is getting old. Player wants more money. Player, through agent, tries to get more money behind the scenes. When effort to get more money fails, player, through agent, asks for a trade behind the scenes.

And then, when request for trade is rejected, player, or agent, takes it public.

The names change, but the circumstances don’t. Clinton Portis. Mike McKenzie. Terrell Owens. Javon Walker. Lance Briggs. Kellen Winslow. Chad Johnson. Jeremy Shockey. Darnell Dockett.

Now, it’s Anquan Boldin. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Arizona receiver has met with the Cardinals and informed them that he wants out. The Cardinals have told him that it won’t happen.

Surprisingly, the Cards haven’t slammed the door on signing Boldin, who is under contract through 2010, to a new deal. But, let’s face it, with so much money tied up in Larry Fitzgerald’s four-year, $40 million extension, there won’t nearly be as much for Boldin.

And so it continues.

With the draft coming in less than four days, teams should include in their assessment of the talent pool one very important factor: Whether the player they’re thinking about drafting might eventually be the next name on this list.
