Would you trade for Merriman

Just something I'm throwing out there because they were discussing this on DC.com today. Would you trade for Shawn Merriman?. I'm sure it would take a first rounder and additional picks or players to get him. Merriman is rumored to be on the trading block. Given that Wade coached Merriman while in San Diego it's realistic to think they could kick it around.

Keep in mind Merriman is in the last year or his contract and we still have Ware to re-sign. Also keep in mind that next year will more than likely be an uncapped year so Jerry could afford both players.

Merriman would have to change positions. More than likely replace Spencer oppostite Ware.

Witten and TO nearly come to blows!!!!

The Star-Telegram is reporting that wide receiver Terrell Owens and tight end Jason Witten had “a near altercation” in the locker room on Friday. Citing two unnamed sources, the paper reports that Owens and Witten exchanged words before being separated.

I hate to say it guys, but TO may have to go after the season. We can't have these types of distractions if we are to succeed in the future. I'm not expecting a whole lot tomorrow against the Giants because I think the distractions this week are too great too overcome. It will only fester if we lose tomorrow night and the locker room will only get more divided. If it has to come down to TO or Witten, say bye-bye to TO after the season. I don't know if the two can co-exist next year and we can't afford these distractions going into the 2009 season.

Shawn Springs talking smack

It's not like TO need any extra motivation, but here it is....

For some strange reason, Redskins CB Shawn Springs decided to publicly challenge T.O. As if the Original 81 didn't have enough motivation coming off a two-catch, 17-yard game.

"I have a track meet Sunday," Springs told the Washington Times. "I can't wait to see it. Me and Terrell 'Usain Bolt' Owens. I'm excited for it. He better be ready."

Not sure it's wise to talk trash to a receiver who torched the Redskins for 173 yards and four TDs at Texas Stadium last season. T.O. did a bunch of that damage to the middle of Washington's Cover 2 zone, but I'm sure the Cowboys would love to see Springs try to stick T.O. without any help.

Ron's son and T.O. have some history. Springs did a solid job vs. T.O. in their first three 49ers-Seahawks meetings, but T.O. got loose for two TDs during a Monday night game in 2002, famously celebrating the second one by pulling a Sharpie out of his sock to sign the football.

"That didn't bother me," Springs told the Times. "I was talking so much trash to him [before the touchdown]."

Springs might be saying the same thing Sunday.

Springs isn't the sharpest tool in the shed is he? TO is going to torch their secondary on Sunday.

Monday nights game between the Eagles and Cowboys suddenly got more interesting.

Cornerback Pacman Jones (who might or might not have been talking in a higher voice) wasnt impressed with the fact that three Eagles receivers gained more than 100 yards through the air on Sunday.

They played the Rams, dude, Pacman said.

Though Jones words werent a direct slam at the Eagles, the girlfriend of quarterback Tony Romo (an admitted member of PFT Planet) declared her support for her beaus team during a Tuesday appearance on ABCs Good Morning America.

Go Cowboys! she yelled during her performance, later adding a message to the Eagles.

Thats next week! Were gonna kick your butts, too!

Quick poll: Canty or Spears

I think a decision will have to be made whether to keep Canty or Spears by the end of the season. I don't think both players will be given new contracts based on other players like Tank, Colombo and Ware who need to be resigned. Based on "what have you done for me lately" the clear edge is Canty on being here long term. Spears has to show it, when it matters plain and simple. Not some meaningless pre-season games over a quarter or two. Spears is signed through 2010, but a decision on whether to trade him this off season (Miami?) could be made.

This could be a situation like Roy Williams where you give a player a new contract and he stops producing. I think and hopefully, I'm wrong that Spears new found motivation is only for a new contract and once he get's it he will turn into the average DE he really is and has shown over the past three seasons.

I still think Spears needs to find himself at NT to have a long term career here.

McQuistan looks to be the favorite of replacing Kosier

The Cowboys' initial answer to the question about how to replace Kyle Kosier is plugging in Pat McQuistan at left guard.

McQuistan is working there with the first team during today's practice, which was open to the media for only the first 30 minutes (routine procedure from here on out). McQuistan has played primarily right tackle for the Cowboys, but he has worked some at guard.

Spencer Increased Reps. Ellis Not Happy?

This from the DMN Blog. Ellis better get used to this because it's clear Spencer is going to see alot more playing time than last season.

5:17 -- DeMarcus Ware (head) will practice, but Anthony Spencer will still get first-team reps with Greg Ellis (back) watching. Phillips gushed about Spencer this afternoon. "Anthony Spencer has done extremely well. He looks better than he did last year, and I thought he did a lot of good things last year."

5:22 -- Well, apparently Greg Ellis didn't get the memo that he's not practicing. He just walked out onto the field wearing his shoulder pads. You don't think he's paranoid about losing reps, do you?

5:51 -- Another exciting Greg Ellis update: It doesn't look like he's actually going through drills. He pretty much a spectator in shoulder pads at this point. I'll let you know if he gets reps during competitive stuff later.

6:31 -- Some red-zone inside run notes: Jay Ratliff played DE. Marcus Spears played NT. Starting to wonder if Wade Phillips fibbed about those moves not being permanent. ... Anthony Spencer got the first-team reps at LOLB with Greg Ellis sitting out. Spencer had a TFL. ... Andre Gurode was flagged for holding Spears. ... Justin Rogers is getting reps at strong ILB and ROLB. ... They ran a cute play to try to get Felix Jones outside. Jones lined up as a WR to the right and motioned into the backfield behind Marion Barber. They faked a dive right to Barber and flipped the ball left to Jones. It might work against some teams, but DeMarcus Ware met Jones several yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Jerry confirms trade still possible

If you didn't see Jerry Jones being interviewed this past weekend, he confirmed a trade during camp is a distinct possibility. Said the Cowboys were over stocked in some positions and would be open to talk player trades.

If I had to guess who could be traded it would be Spears followed by Ellis.

Where?

Miami ofcourse.

They are short one experienced DE when they traded Taylor to the Redskins. I would'nt at all be surprised it one of these players were traded their.

Hamlin close to a new contract

Cowboys, Hamlin nearing agreement on multi-year contract

The Cowboys are very close to signing safety Ken Hamlin to a multi-year contract, according to a source. A deal could be finalized as soon as later today or Tuesday.

The team designated Hamlin as their franchise player back in February and have been working towards a long-term deal since then.

Hamlin finished the 2007 season with 47 total tackles, five interceptions and 15 passes defensed.

Chris Henry meeting with an unknown team

Former Bengals receiver Chris Henry is drawing the interest of a yet-unnamed NFL team.

Henry’s lawyer made that claim on Tuesday in order to obtain for Henry permission to travel out of the area for the purposes of visiting with said team. Henry is on house arrest in the wake of a recent assault charge, and the judge assigned to the case previously had denied a request that Henry be allowed to leave the area in the hopes of landing a new football gig.
