Does Chris Paul to Orlando place the Magic on top of the Eastern Conference?
We all know Chris Paul is no LeBron James, but as of late CP3 has turned all eyes onto himself, managing to steal the top NBA headlines.
Many consider Paul as the best point-guard in the NBA and one couldn’t agree more with that, but will the super distributor be able to land in one of his preferred destinations before the season begins?
News first broke out stating that Paul’s first choice would be joining teams with the Knicks, but as we have all learned this offseason, new day, new rumor.
Sources have stated that CP3′s new top preferred team is the Orlando Magic.
ESPN’s Chris Broussard says that Paul pairing up with Orlando’s Dwight Howard would be a much better fit than with Amare Stoudemire in New York.
In addition, the Magic have much more to offer for New Orleans in return.
Let’s just say that New Orleans and Orlando come to an agreement in the next week or so and Vince Carter, Jameer Nelson, and a back-up are sent to the Hornets in exchange for Chris Paul and a back-up.
With the Miami Heat quickly emerging as the top favorites to come out of the East after their recent signing acquisitions, does a move in which the leagues top point-guard (Chris Paul) pairing up with the leagues top center (Dwight Howard) place the Orlando Magic on top of Miami in the Eastern Conference?
The answer to that question is yes.
Although it’s difficult to even process that Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh are on the same squad, the super powered Heat still have missing pieces.
The Bench
While Miami has managed to bring in some solid veteran talent to surround their trio, their bench simply does not match up to Orlando’s.
The Magic had arguably the league’s most productive bench last season, posting an average total of 45.6 points per game.
With the re-signing of sharp-shooter J.J. Reddick, an emerging Ryan Anderson, the big bodied Brandon Bass and Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, and distributor specialist Chris Duhon, the Magic enter the upcoming season with one of the toughest benches in the NBA.
The Magic shot the most and made the most three pointers last season. With Chris Paul in command at the one spot (with a career average of 10.0 APG) the guard will be surrounded by plenty of perimeter players who can absolutely light up the trey ball.
While I’m not particularly a big fan of the Magics recent signing of Quentin Richardson, the shooter did shoot nearly 40.0 percent from beyond the three-point arc last season in Miami.
Paul is one of those rare basketball players that simply makes his teammates better when the ball is in his hands and with Rashard Lewis coming off of a down year, this could be exactly what he needs to resurrect.
Dwight Howard
Dwight Howard led the league in RPG and BPG last season, ending the year with the most double-doubles and slam dunks in the NBA.
With Howard in the paint, which player on the Miami Heat roster will be able to contain the unstoppable force?
Miami signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas recently and from the looks of things he will probably kick off the season as the teams starting center (we all knew what Dwight posted against Cleveland two seasons ago in the postseason).
Adding Chris Paul to the Orlando Magic’s roster clearly increases the teams chances of securing the top spot in the Eastern Conference, ultimately raising the organizations shot at winning their first NBA championship.
Do you think the Magic could beat the Heat for a shot at the NBA Finals if Chris Paul was added to their roster?

MICHAEL JORDAN VS LEBRON JAMES: OPINIONS, DECISIONS, AND COMPARISONS
While the legendary Michael Jordan was making his appearance at a celebrity golf tournament (how come he never appears at NBA events?), Jordan was asked for his opinion on the LeBron James taking his talents to South Beach situation.
Jordan stated,
“There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, ‘hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team’. But that’s…things are different. I can’t say that’s a bad thing. It’s an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.”
Before we enter the world of Michael Jordan and his post six years with the Chicago Bulls, lets take a quick peek at Jordan’s first six seasons in the league compared to LeBron James’.
Much like LeBron James, MJ had to carry his team on his shoulders during his first six years in the NBA.
While Jordan never made it to the NBA Finals during his first six seasons, James managed to do so in only his fourth year in the league with David Wesley being the team’s second best player (or maybe Damon Jones was, tough call).
Although the Cavaliers were swept to the San Antonio Spurs in the 06′-07′ NBA Finals, James was able to bring a team filled with no-namers to the finals.
Jordan stating that he would’ve never called up Larry and Magic to join teams comes off as pure arrogance.
Michael Jordan never had to call up those superstars to join his squad because the Chicago Bulls organization surrounded MJ with all the talent in the world to win countless championships.
During the 87′ NBA Draft the Bulls traded eighth overall pick Olden Polynice along with a second-round draft pick and the option to exchange 1989 first-round draft choices to the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for Jordan’s partner in crime Scottie Pippen.
While Polynice posted career averages of 7.8 PPG 6.7 RPG in 14 seasons with five different teams, Scottie Pippen, a seven time All-Star and Hall of Famer, became the “Robin” to Michael “Batman” Jordan.
Pippen, along with Jordan, both entered their primes during the Bulls’ first three-peat.
But the NBA’s top duo just wasn’t enough talent, so Chicago went out and traded for seven time NBA All-Defensive First Team and two time Defensive Player of the Year Dennis Rodman. With the Bulls Rodman averaged roughly 15.5 rebounds per game.
In addition to the best player to have ever played the game of basketball, a top 50 all time NBA player, and arguably the best defensive player at the time, the Bulls had Tony Kukoc, the 1996 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, and the best coach in NBA history, Phil Jackson.
Not to mention, when Jordan retired for the 93′-94′ season, the Bulls managed to win 55 games without the legend, making it to the second round of the playoffs.
While Michael Jordan was suffocated with legendary talent in Chicago, LeBron Jameswas fenced in around 38-year old Shaq, Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, and AndersonVarejao in Cleveland.

LEBRON JAMES SET TO AVERAGE FIRST TRIPLE-DOUBLE OF THIS GENERATION
Standing 6’7″, weighing 250 plus pounds with acute court vision, better ball handling skills than a point-guard, and a physique that can absolutely overpower any opponent in his path.
His name is LeBron James.
And this season The King will average the first triple-double since Oscar “The Big O” Robertson.
Much like Robertson, James is an extremely versatile big man that is much better suited making plays with the ball in his hands.
The Mismatch
James running the point for Miami instantly creates a catastrophic mismatch for any team that competes against the squad on that given night.
Defensively, James (who boasts a career average of 1.7 SPG and 0.9 BPG) would be assigned to defend the opponents point-guard, something the superstar has done in the past and will take pride in doing. (If you’re questioning James’ ability to defend the point-guard for 35+ MPG, his teammate D-Wade can always switch defenders to help him out.)
Offensively, opponents would have no answer for James. If a point-guard is guarding LeBron he will simply use his incredible stature to bully the defender.
If the team decides to place their small-forward on LJ than the point-guard would be forced to either defend Dwyane Wade or Mike Miller, both being mismatches as well.
Regardless of how good a teams game plan is, Miami playing LeBron at the point creates serious havoc.
The Triple-Double
With LeBron not forced into scoring 30 plus points per game and the pressure of carrying his team completely off of his shoulders, James will turn into this generations Magic Johnson (a player James has looked up to and emulated his entire life).
His ability to find the open man on the court and create the mismatch while doing so will enable Wade to score close to his normal career averages, Mike Miller to emerge as a top contender for the most three-pointers made during the regular season, Chris Bosh to slam down alley-oops and open spot-up jumpers, and James to average well over 10 assists per game.
If and when James cannot find an open man or one of his teammates misses a bucket, the superstar will undoubtedly be there to collect (like a Rajon Rondo, except LeBron James style. Could you imagine all those offensive put-back slam dunks!), giving James the opportunity to snatch at least 10 boards per contest.
While LeBron will not post his career average of 27.8 PPG, the specimen will likely come pretty close to it due to easy baskets, free-throw attempts, and open jumpers.

LeBron James gets sued for $4 million by alleged father!
While LeBron officially made his “decision” on live T.V., his mother is possibly regretting a “decision” that she made 25 years ago.
News broke out roughly a week ago regarding to a possible DNA Cover-Up scandal in which a man named Leicester Bryce Stovell attempted to prove that he was the father of “all-hail-mighty” LeBron James. (Great timing!)
Stovell is accusing LeBron James and his Mama of tampering with the DNA evidence and is now seeking $4 million bones from the James family, claiming fraud, defamation, and misrepresentation.
Stovell reportedly met Mama “Gloria” James all the way back in 1984 at a bar in the Washington, D.C. area.
That night Stovell and Mama, who was just 16 years of age at the time, supposedly had unprotected sex. (Rumors have also swarmed around the NBA about Gloria having sexual relations with LeBron’s former teammate, Delonte West (a.k.a Mr. Leprechaun with herpes on his lip.)
Mama moved back to Ohio after the “one night stand” and months later returned to D.C. to inform Stovell that she was in fact pregnant.
Stovell says he vividly remembers telling her “Well if he’s mine, make sure he plays basketball.” HA!
Stovell claimed in 2007 that he attempted to get in touch with Gloria in which Ms. James stated over the phone that she didn’t know who he was, threatening to have him “physically harmed.”
Days after the phone call was made, LeBron James reportedly agreed to a DNA paternity test.

Golden State Warriors could be one of the greatest franchises
Yesterday, reviled Golden State Warriors owner Chris Cohan sold the team to Joe and Pete. I could tell you their last names, or that Joe is a minority owner (soon to be former minority owner) of the Boston Celtics, or that Pete produced Caddy Shack Two. But if you’re not a Warriors fan then would you really care?
Their impressive resumes are not what matters at this point. Obviously they have been successful otherwise they wouldn’t be able to afford the largest sale of an NBA franchise at a reported $450 million dollars. The previous largest sale was in 2004 when Robert Sarver bought the Phoenix Suns for $401 million dollars, which should be a helpful reminder to Warriors fans that just because your owner (or owners in this case) spent a lot of money to buy the franchise, doesn’t mean they’ll spend a lot of money to put the best possible team on the floor.
So if no one really cares about these two guys, then why am I writing an article on the sale of the team you ask? Because the Golden State Warriors have the chance to become one of the greatest franchises in the NBA…..as long as the new owners don’t screw it up for everybody.
In order for a franchise to be great, it all starts with the fans. It’s the reason that no matter how many titles the Miami Heat win with their superstar trio of egos, it will never be a great franchise. They don’t have many, if any, real fans. Sure, they’ll sell out every home game for the next five or six years, but mainly because it’ll be a place to be seen. Going to a Heat game now has some prestige to it.
Being a Warriors fan has absolutely zero prestige. Despite being one of the least successful franchises in the NBA for the past 16 seasons, the Warriors have a great fan base. They’re passionate, they get riled up, and they could make Oracle arena one of the most feared places to play if their team wasn’t a complete joke. So instead of focusing on the new owners pasts, Joe and Pete need to study the past of the successful owners and franchises in the NBA to learn what not to do and what must be done in order to make Golden State one the best franchises in the NBA. Here’s three ways to help move the franchise in the right direction.

NBA 2010-11 ODDSMAKER: WHO WILL WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON?
Odds are out, teams are assembled (with the exception of a few still looming in free-agents) and last season has already become a thing of the past.
As our minds and thoughts shift to the upcoming 2010-11′ NBA season, fans can’t help but to ponder about who will out-duel the league and ultimately win the NBA Finals.
While that incomparable moment is certainly far away from taking place, organizations are already gaining edges on others according to Linesmaker.com which has the Miami Heat at 9-5 odds of winning it all next season.
So the question remains, who will win the NBA championship next season?
Miami Heat- 9/5 Odds- 55.5% chances of winning the NBA championship
Once Wade and Bosh agreed to signing with the organization Miami’s odds of winning a championship obviously shot up, especially after their first-round exit during the postseason.
But when LeBron James decided to join the two in Miami, the Heats chances of winning landed them above the two time defending champions, giving the MIA a ridiculous 55.5 percent of grabbing the title.
Miami has a preposterous core with solid veterans such as Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and potentially Juwan Howard and Jerry Stackhouse joining the stacked up squad.
Will the Heat be able to surge through the regular season and into the NBA Finals with ease or will the team run into major problems regarding to their supporting cast?
Dallas Mavericks- 15-1 Odds- 6.67% chances of winning the NBA championship
Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Dirk Nowitzki, Caron Butler, Shawn Marion, Brendan Haywood, Tyson Chandler…the Mavericks have undoubtedly one of the most amped up rosters in the NBA.

Los Angeles Lakers- 3/1 Odds- 33.3% chances of winning the NBA championship
Back-to-back championships, arguably the leagues best player, a proven team, and the Lakers are still not on top of the rankings.
Regardless of the matter, LA heads into the upcoming season with just as much star power as the Heat, eh maybe not just as much, but pretty close.
Bryant, 31, will be even more determined this season to not only make a three-peat, but to tie the legendary Michael Jordan with six NBA Finals rings.
When comparing the Lakers to the Heat, one could tell that Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum are a much better back-court than Chris Bosh and whoever the Heat decide to place at the five spot (Big Z? Joel Anthony?).
While James will be hard to maintain, Ron Artest, known as one of the best defensive stoppers in the game, will get the assignment of “slowing down” The King, and newly signed Steve Blake is a sure-fire upgrade from Derek Fisher.
Bryant will go head to head with D-Wade and this battle could instantly turn into the ultimate rivalry.

DEREK FISHER AT A CROSSROADS, WILL IT BE MIAMI OR LOS ANGELES?
Los Angeles Lakers starting point-guard and unrestricted free-agent Derek Fisher met with Miami Heat’s president Pat Riley and majority owner Micky Arison.
Miami has reportedly proposed D-Fish with a “compelling” offer, stating that he would be the starting point-guard during the upcoming season for the newly assembled Heat squad.
But will Fisher ever leave the Los Angeles Lakers?
The veteran has been through it all with Kobe Bryant, winning five championships with the Black Mamba and being the starting point-guard in four of the five ships.
In Fisher’s 14 years in the league, he has made a name for himself as an extremely clutch shooter and as a major presence in the locker room (he is also the president of the Nation Basketball Players Association).
Although Fisher could provide the Heat with veteran-ship, experience, and sharp-shooting, he could be a liability as well. During the 2010 postseason Fisher had a difficult time defending the speedy Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams. Being 35 years of age, Fisher has certainly lost a foot in his step and switching over to the Eastern Conference (where the Heat will be competing against Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Jameer Nelson, John Wall, Devin Harris, etc) could turn out to be a failure for the vet.
Reports have stated that LA has upped their original contract proposal (one-year, $2.5 million) to Fisher and even though moving down to South Beach to team up with arguably the strongest trio in the history of the NBA sounds like fun, I strongly predict that Fisher will remain with his heart in Los Angeles to contend for his second three-peat.

Juwan Howard to sign with Miami?
Juwan Howard could be joining the Heat, signing the veterans minimum.
NBA Free Agency: Ranking The Top Five Free-Agents On The Market
With all the top NBA free-agents off the market, NBA Primetime ranks the top 5 remaining free-agents that are still available to be signed to an organization.
1. Luis Scola (Restricted)
Even though Scola is not a very popular name that you hear on ESPN, he is one heck of a basketball player.
In three seasons in the league, the Argentinian has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.9 RPG on 51.9 percent shooting from the field.
Scola is an impressive rebounder on both ends of the court and has an outstanding post up game on the offensive side of the floor.
While he has yet to average a double-double for an entire season, Scola's chances of doing so during the upcoming year are more so than none.
Although Scola is already 30 years of age, he can provide any team with a surplus of production.
2. Mike Miller
While reports have stated that Mike Miller and the Miami Heat have agreed to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract, ESPN has yet to announce the signing as being official.
Miller is a superb basketball player with more tools in his arsenal than a handyman. Standing roughly 6'7", Miller is extremely versatile and is capable of playing multiple positions on the court.
Teaming up with Wade, Bosh, and LeBron, MM will quickly find his role on the squad and excel tremendously, especially from three-point range.
Coming off of a down year with the San Antonio Spurs, swingman R-Jeff is seeking a team that is looking to contend for a title during the upcoming season.
Opting out of his hefty final year $15 million contract proves that Jefferson is not in it for the money but rather for competing for a championship.
Being just 30 with career averages of 17 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, and 46.9 percent shooting from the court, RJ is definitely a free-agent to consider signing especially if he is willing to take a pay-cut for a team that is destined to contend deep into the playoffs.
Harrington is a premier scorer in the NBA but has a reputation for ball-hogging and being a problem in the locker room.
In New York Big Al posted impressive offensive numbers, 20.7 PPG during the 08-09 season and 17.7 last season, while his defensive presence remains questionable (especially on Mike D'Antoni's run-and-gun system).
Regardless, Harrington is a big body that can knock down the trey-ball and at least defend his position.
Teams in need of power-forwards will most certainly go after Harrington, but he may not come at a cheap price.
5. Shaquille O'Neal
The 38-year old Shaq Daddy diesel still has gas in his tank, at least at the moment.
O'Neal is looking to sign a two-year deal with a team that is obviously in the race for a serious playoff run during the next two seasons.
The Hawks have been very high on Superman and if the price is right he could be ending his career in Atlanta.
O'Neal can provide any team with terrific rebounding, shot-blocking, and offense in the low-post and in the paint, although he tends to clog up the middle on the offensive end of the floor.
Honorable Mentions: Josh Howard, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Zydrunas Ilgauskas

LEBRON, WADE, BOSH SIGN THEIR MAX CONTRACTS WITH MIAMI HEAT
Chad Ford is reporting that the newly assembled trio have agreed on their maximum contracts.
LeBron James and Chris Bosh have signed a 6-year, $110 million deal while Dwyane Wade has signed a 6-year, $107 millin deal.
James and Bosh’s first years salary will be $14.5 while Wade’s will be $14.2. Each superstar is taking roughly $15 million less during the span of their contract.
James and Bosh’s six year deals give us a sign that they will be involved in sign-and-trades with their former teams.
