Ryan Braun tests positive for PEDs
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/7338271/ryan-braun-milwaukee-brewers-tests-positive-performance-enhancing-drug
National League MVP Ryan Braun, who last season led the Milwaukee Brewers to their first division title in nearly three decades, has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and faces a 50-game suspension if the initial finding is upheld, two sources familiar with the case told "Outside the Lines."
USA TODAY reported Saturday night that Braun said of the test result: "It's B.S."
Bravesin07 Top 25 Prospect List
1) Mike Trout-Elite Hitter .300+ with 20 HR and 40 SB potential, Good D as well
2) Matt Moore-Elite Pitcher, could become what Kershaw is rapidly and be top 3 arm in the game
3) Bryce Harper-Massive power 40+ HRs a year, but also 150 K's a year BA is a question
4) Shelby Miller-Could be a 1 and could contend for multiple CYs
5) Jesus Montero-Potential masher in the Cabrera mode if moved off C rapidly, downside is Butler still a quality bat
6) Manny Machado-Potential elite SS with .290 Ave with 22-28 HRs a season
7) Trevor Bauer-Can he become Tim, no but could be a RH Cliff Lee
8) Taijuan Walker-Ceiling is close to Moore's if he refines into what people expect him to, could be the next Verlander
9) Jurickson Profar-Potential AS SS, with a good bat and better glove than Machado, offensive ceiling isn't quite as high
10) Gerrit Cole-Can be a 1, but as a 1st pick he has to buck the trend of #1 picks on pitchers
11) Devin Mesoraco-Best catcher in the minors, could be a RH McCann with maybe an even better glove
12) Tyler Skaggs-lefties like him don't grow on tree, minimum a high end 3, could end up being a 1
13) Anthony Rendon-Injuries knock him down some, moving to 2nd, he can become what Utley was in his prime
14) Julio Teheran-Can be a 2 but also could become a closer if the curveball doesn't develop
15) Travis D'Arnaud-Solid All Around Catcher, should have some all star appearances
16) Dylan Bundy-Similar to Walker and Moore in Ceiling, want to see him pitch before ranking him higher
17) Wil Myers-Could become what Jay Bruce was suppost to be with the bat ie .300 30 HRs
18) Bubba Starling-Highest ceiling outside of Trout and Harper but a risk. Upside is the 2nd best CF in the game
19) Jameson Taillon-Could be a 1 but command is average at best right now and doesn't appear to have much of a change up.
20) Nolan Arenado-Can he mash in Colorado, sure, does he have enough glove to hold down 3rd
21) Jacob Turner-A quality 2 or 3 starter, can become a 1 if he adds a few ticks to FB
22) Miguel Sano-A masher, can become what Montero ceiling is
23) Xander Bogaerts-Can he stay in the infield, if he goes to 3rd he could become the good Beltre
24) Jake Marisnick-It all depends on if Gose can hit in the majors, either way Marisnick have the potential to become a 20-20 man with a .285+ ave
25) Archie Bradley-Can become a 1 but like Bundy need to see him pitch in order to raise ranking.

Twins move Eddie Rosario to 2nd base
SethTweets Seth Stohs Very intriguing! He's got a rocket for an arm. RT @JoshsThoughts Eddie Rosario at 2nd base. Very interesting. Hopefully it works out.
OverTheBaggy Parker Hageman by JoshsThoughts Eddie Rosario has a very sweet swing from left-side. Whips bat through zone quick. Twins dream of the next Robinson Cano with move to 2B.
JoshsThoughts Josh Johnson Eddie Rosario at 2nd base. Very interesting. Hopefully it works out.

BlueJays a future powerhouse
I think they have the potential to be the next Phillies in about 4 years. Right now they are solid in the majors with hitting but pitching aren't great yet. AA's 2010 Draft could be the draft of the decade if Nicolino, Syndergaard, and Sanchez all hit their ceiling and add in that the Jays could have some huge ceiling outfielders in Gose and Marisnick. If Lawrie can handle third they could move Bautista to DH in 3 years. Think about this, the Jays if Gose and Marisnick make it and develop could have Rasmus in left, Gose in center, and Marisnick in right. The rotation could be a great one as Drew Hutchison is developing into a 3 and maybe a 2 if the fastball stays there. I do think that Kyle Drabek is their future closer. Think about this rotation, it is a dream as these guys likely won't all pan out. It could be Romeo-Alvarez-Hutchison-Nicolino-Syndergaard with Sanchez waiting in the wings. This isn't even including Adonys Cardona who could be better than them all. Great future for the Jays, and I think this team is on the cusp of being a perennial contender as Toronto is a huge city, the owner has a ton of money, and Canadian currency is worth a lot more now than in the past.

2011 Prospect Predictions with your gut (August Update) includes May Update
Made these predictions back in December and looked up my post to see how I stand so far. The work in the parenthesis are updated from today.
1) Zach Lee will emerge as a better prospect than Jamison Taillon or Stetson Allie next year. Tyrell Jenkins will be a close 2nd to Lee. (Lee has already moved past Allie and is knocking on the door on passing Taillon)(August: Has passed Allie, but not Taillon yet, Jenkins has passed Allie)
2) Bryce Harper will hit about 30-35 HR's but will struggle to hit .270 with 150 K's(Predicted the power)(Less pop but better average)
3)Mike Trout will be in the Angels outfield by July after hitting close to .350 with much improved power in the Texas League. (Trout has better ISO this year, and is hitting over .300, Vernon Wells looks like a bust)(Ha, I guess I was right on this one, even though it was for a short time)
4) Jake Marisnick will become one of the more exciting prospects next season(Might be right here)(Might be a top 25-50 prospect)
5) Matt Lipka will emerge as a top 25 prospect(Not looking good, good speed, zero pop)(Bad year, may not get much pop)
6) Shelby Miller will be knocking on the doors for a september call up.(He just might if the cards are out)(Doubtful this year)
7) Zack Wheeler and Jacob Turner go down with major arm injuries(still early, but both looking solid so far)(Not this year which is good for both teams)
8) Cito Culver becomes a legit SS prospect(way too early)(He may become one after all)
9) Hayden Simpson is banished to the pen(ERA over 5, it just may happen down the line)(Yikes, he might end up there)
10) Peter Tago not Tyler Matzek will be the Rockies next top pitching prospect.(Matzek stock is tumbling)(Matzek Stock is heading back up and Tago has had a bad year)
My Bryce Harper and Drew Pomeranz game report
Went down to PA yesterday not knowing that Pomeranz was making his start until late in the day. I was happy about this as it would be a matchup between two top 30 prospects. Anyways, tried to get a Harper auto on a ball but no dice, no big deal but people were bitching. I noticed two things before the game, Harper had a teammate tell him to get his ass stretching, and he didn't stand with his team for the Anthem. As for the game, Harper is clearly pressing trying to get his 1st AA homer and was chasing everything. He was swinging way out of the zone high, and I think pitchers may have found a hole in his swing down and in as he had no clue against pitches last night. Harper made contact in his third AB and hit a bomb 399 dead center for an out, pulled that's a HR. My assessment is that, he reminds me a lot of Jay Bruce and I saw Bruce play in 2008 in AAA. As for Pomeranz, his velocity disappointed me, he sat at 88-90 which is okay for a lefty but not for a top 30 prospect. I also got a report that he was tipping his curveball. He did locate his fastball well except for one pitch which was crushed for a HR. He has a nice easy motion, that looks a lot like Cliff Lee. I see him as a good #3 starter or a better Tomlin. I got Pomeranz after the game on a ball and he was nice. I have video of Pomeranz vs. Harper but haven't uploaded it yet.

Harper to AA Harrisburg
http://dc.sbnation.com/washington-nationals/2011/7/4/2258143/bryce-harper-washington-nationals-promoted-harrisburg
Bryce Harper has been dominating the pitching at Single-A Hagerstown all season, and that has finally earned him a promotion. The Washington Nationals' phenom will be called up to Double-A Harrisburg, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. He is scheduled to make his debut on Monday night.
Harper has spent the past three months in low-Single A, proving that he was probably too advanced for that level. Harper hit .318 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 72 games and 305 plate appearances. He posted an on-base percentage of .423 and a slugging percentage of .577.
The mild surprise is that Harper skipped the Nationals' high- Single A affiliate in Potomac. Evidently, the Nationals saw enough of him mash the ball at Hagerstown to know that he didn't need to play in that league. This is despite the fact that Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo suggested that Harper would "touch every level of the minor-league system."
Donovan Tate Suspended 50 Games for Drug Test
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/28/padres-prospect-donovan-tate-suspended-for-drugs
Major League Baseball just announced that Donavan Tate, who was the third overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft, has been suspended for a drug of abuse (meaning not traditional PEDs). To get a 50-game suspension as Tate just received, you had to have tested positive twice. Tate has already sat out for 25 games, however, while going through a drug treatment program, and the 50 game suspension will be retroactive to that.
On the year the 20-year-old outfielder is hitting .294/.368/.471 for low-A Eugene and high-A Ft. Wayne.

Bravesin07 Top 50 midseason list No 2011 DP
Figure I make one that might sound more competent that the one that was listed recently... I am not adding people who have been drafted.
1) Mike Trout- Over Harper sure, has the look of a guy who can hit .300 hit 25 HR, steal 40 Bags, and can play good defense. Taking him over Harper due to performance at AA.
2) Bryce Harper- Monster power, a better bat than projected, he can possibly do it all, but could be held back by his attitude, and hasn't played against more difficult competition yet.
3) Shelby Miller- +Fastball, + Curveball, the makings of a + Change, and improved command due to great mechanics has the look of a rotation anchor.
4) Matt Moore- Lefty with great stuff, has the look of a TOR starter that may have more potential than David Price.
5) Manny Machado- Great start to his career with more pop than predicted and playing sound defense at SS. Maybe end up being more a sure thing than Harper due to polish.
6) Martin Perez- Another Lefty with nasty stuff, has a similar ceiling to Moore, but Moore has better command of his pitches currently.
7) Brett Lawrie- Big jump in power performance this year, sure he's playing in the PCL but could end up being the next Ryan Braun, if he doesn't become a headcase.
8) Jameson Taillon- Showing great command for a young pitcher considering he's been working off his fastball all year, next year watch for the K's to jump.
9) Dustin Ackley- Power and average have been up and if he can stick at 2nd could become a premier middle infielder.
10) Julio Teheran- Good stuff, but there is a question on how long is he going to hold up as a starter, could end up being an electric arm, but could end up being the 2nd Juan Cruz.
11) Jurickson Profar- So far he had exceeded anyone expectations with the bat and is a lock to stay in the middle infield. He may have a similar ceiling to Machado.
12) Wil Myers- While I thought he could be much higher than this, I have to leave him here for now due to missing time. I rate him over Montero due to being able to play in the field and could end up being a better offensive player.
13) Anthony Rizzo- He could end up being a lot like A-Gon but SD park may hold down his numbers.
14) Devin Mesoraco- Could end up being potentially the next Brian McCann at catcher, either way he's has AS upside, and I like him as well over Montero due to being able to stay at Catcher.
15) Jacob Turner- I like Turner, but he has shown this year that he may not have a #1 starter ceiling, but could be a good #2 starter. A much better prospect than Porcello was.
16) Jesus Montero- I rank Montero here as he's proven that he can't play defense and his bb/k has declined a lot this year. He's not Miguel Cabrera, but more closer to Billy Butler.
17) Tyler Skaggs- Surprised, you shouldn't be at all. He's been hitting low to mid 90's this year with good secondary pitches. Dominating the CAL league is big. Could be a richman's John Danks which is a #2 starter.
18) Mike Moustakis- Big power potential, we'll see if he can stay at 3rd. He has AS appearances if he can.
19) Lonnie Chisenhall- Don't worry about the numbers in AAA, he can be a potential AS 3rd baseman.
20) Matt Harvey- Dominating the FSL with his FB and CB combination, if he CU develops into an average or better pitch he can be a #2, very likely a good #3.
21) Jean Segura- If he can stick at SS, he can become a Jose Reyes type player, but I don't think he'll be the 2011 Reyes which is incredible. More likely to be a 2nd baseman with Howie Kendrick ability with more speed.
22) Drew Pomeranz- Could be a #2 starter if he can develop his changeup, if not he could become an electric closer and be a Johnny Venters type pitcher.
23) Wilin Rosario- Catchers who have strong arms and solid defense don't grow on trees.
24) Danny Duffy- Has already 30 IP but he can become a good #3 with a potential to be a #2.
25) Kyle Gibson- Like the K's but not an ace but a good #3 starter with an outside change to be a 2.
26) Manny Banuelos- Excellent changeup, good curve, but poor fastball command had him at 91-93 and touched 95. Overrated by the media and won't be a #1. He could be a #2 or #3 depending on his fastball command.
27) Arodys Vizcaino- If he can survive his elbow scare and add a changeup, he may have the highest ceiling in the Braves Organization. If he can't add the change, he might end up being the next Rafael Soriano.
28) Nick Castellanos- Call me crazy by ranking him this high but it might be smart. Throw out his april and you have a plus .300 hitter with solid power in the MWL.
29) Jake Marisnick- Which brings me to another MWL player whom may have a AS ceiling as well. Marisnick the longer he hits over .300 continues to take away the naysayers with his hitting. Could become a premier CF in the majors if he hits his potential.
30) Carlos Martinez- Big arm, also i've heard he might not have the mechanics to hold as a starter.
31) Travis D'Arnaud- Another catcher whom could have potential AS appearances in the future if his back holds up.
32) Zach Wheeler- Big arm, but also an above average injury risk. Could be good for a few years or poof in the minors.
33) Miguel Sano- Big power, also needs to find a position to play, could be in the top 10 next year.
34) Jarrod Parker- Recovery from TJ has been slow, needs to find his command.
35) Hak Ju Lee- Could be a top 15 guy this year from now, he could become the electric leadoff hitter they have been looking for years.
36) Taijuan Walker- Potential elite talent needs to harness his changeup to move up the list. Simply too overpowering for the MWL right now.
37) Desmond Jennings- A big drop for me, can he show that he can be an everyday player. May not live up to the rays expectations also will be 25 in october.
38) Gary Sanchez- Can he overcome his attitude troubles and become an offensive monster or does he get dealt like Jose Tabata did.
39) Paul Goldschmidt- Monster power season currently, can he keep it up in the majors or will he become another Dallas McPherson type who feasted in the minors and couldn't hit in the majors.
40) Jason Kipnis- Currently on a tear in AAA and I feel the indians need him ASAP. Could have a nice long career as a regular with maybe an AS season or two sprinkled in.
41) Casey Kelly
42) Brett Jackson
43) Mike Montgomery
44) Jedd Gyoko
45) Zach Lee
46) Dellin Betances
47) Josh Sale
48) Gary Brown
49) Derek Norris
50) Robert Erlin

Gary Sanchez vs. Miguel Sano
Who do you guys like between these two prospects. For some reason I like Sanchez a lot more than Sano. Sano is already a big kid 6'3 210 from what I have heard. With him being that big already he's almost a lock to become a future 1st baseman and could get too big like Guzman did while he was with the dodgers and rays. I also didn't like the fact that Sano struckout more than once a game in his debut though he did draw some walks. Sano though could become a monster power hitter in the line of a David Ortiz. Sanchez outhit Sano in rookie ball and will play at a much more premium position than Sano. Sanchez also struckout at much less rate than Sano. I'm not hyping up Sanchez yet, but I feel that he could be the next premier catcher in baseball. It's a good problem the yankees have as they can trade for pitching. If the Yankees made a move for Hernandez or Kershaw, this would be the one prospect the yankees should hold on to and trade the rest.
Best career out of Bruce, Upton, Rasmus, and McCutchen 2005 HS OF DP
Who do you guys like out of these 4 to have the best career, the best season and whom do you see them playing for in the next 5 years. I know Bruce will be a red but where will the other three be in 5 years. I have a poll set up for this.

2011 Prospect Predictions with your gut
What do you guys think. Who do you think of 2011 predictions with your gut feelings. Well I have a few of them I am going to say and they are bold.
1) Zach Lee will emerge as a better prospect than Jamison Taillon or Stetson Allie next year. Tyrell Jenkins will be a close 2nd to Lee
2) Bryce Harper will hit about 30-35 HR's but will struggle to hit .270 with 150 K's
3)Mike Trout will be in the Angels outfield by July after hitting close to .350 with much improved power in the Texas League.
4) Jake Marisnick will become one of the more exciting prospects next season
5) Matt Lipka will emerge as a top 25 prospect.
6) Shelby Miller will be knocking on the doors for a september call up.
7) Zack Wheeler and Jacob Turner go down with major arm injuries
8) Cito Culver becomes a legit SS prospect
9) Hayden Simpson is banished to the pen
10) Peter Tago not Tyler Matzek will be the Rockies next top pitching prospect.

My Braves Top 10 Prospects
1) Julio Teheran: Right now I think IMO the top pitching prospect in baseball. He has true ace upside and has a floor of Juan Cruz. A median ceiling and most likely to achieve is Ervin Santana whom was 160 soaking wet and Teheran has a similar motion.
2) Freddie Freeman: Could right now be a solid everyday first baseman as he has a high floor. His floor is Kotchman, but his ceiling is Adrian Gonzalez.
3) Mike Minor: Still considering him a prospect. High floor as being at least a #4 starter, could have a #2 upside, but if he gets major control he could be the next Lee.
4) Arodys Vizcaino: Electric arm that avoided surgery. He has had injury concerns the last two years, but if he stays healthy he could be Teheran's robin. Could be a back of bullpen pitcher if he can't ever build his stamina.
5) Matt Lipka: Going aggressive here as I am higher on him than many people. If he can stay at short and continue to hit and develop power, he can be Mike Trout the infielder. If he moves to center, he would still be considered a major prospect. Floor is utility infielder or AAAA fodder.
6) Randall Delgado: Doesn't have the same fire power as Teheran and Vizcanio but may make it to the majors first and has a fairly high floor for a 20 year old pitcher. Could be a lot like Jair Jurrijens but with a better breaking ball.
7) Craig Kimbrel: Could be one of the best relief pitchers in baseball next year or he could blow up off this list and back to the minors with his control problems. I think he's going to be the former and be a great bullpen asset for a long time. Upside is Heath Bell with less control.
8) Carlos Perez: Very young pitcher that was dominant at times in rookieball. Has been compared to Teheran and has a lights out ceiling. Has the lowest floor of anyone on this list as he could boom or bust.
9) Edwar Salcedo: Very high ceiling but a very very low floor. Could blowup and become the next Mike Stanton or he could just fade away in A-ball. Years away and likely not an infielder.
10) Christian Bethancourt: Already considered a good defensive catcher but could become a gold glover in time. Even if he hits .260 with 10 HR's a year, he would be considered one of the better catchers in the game due to his run stopping defense. If he can't hit, he could go to the mound and become a relief pitcher with back of the bullpen potential.

The Colby Rasmus Situation
What does everyone think of the relationship of Rasmus and St. Louis falling apart that he is likely to be traded in the offseason. I honestly think that LaRussa should quit as he is getting stale there as Torre was with NY. I think if they do trade Rasmus, they will regret it as who would protect Pujols and Holliday in St. Louis. It's like Bonds and Kent all over again. If I were a CF needy team I would go after Rasmus in a heartbeat. I think Atlanta and Boston would be great fits as both need centerfielders.
Auburn vs. Williamsport observations
Went to Auburn-Williamsport last night and there were some standouts and guys that need major work.
3 Up:
Gustavo Pierre: Flashed some monster tools tonight connecting on an opposite field triple and showing his plus speed. Plate Discipline is much better than the previous two times that I've seen him and waited for his pitch a couple of times.
Carlos Perez: Plus Plus Speed for a catcher, can really get down the line. Not a big guy so I don't think he'll be more than a 10-15 HR threat, but showed a good eye at the plate not looking overmatched.
Kelly Dugan: He was the best prospect on the field tonight. He flashed his potential to become an elite hitter with good power. Set up very similar to Jay Bruce, and showed a good eye at the plate not looking to hack away. When he made contact the ball it was scorched off the bat and had that special sound to it. He only went 1-4 but he missed a HR by about five or six feet, and due to Auburn's centerfielder having great range was robbed of two more doubles in the gap. He used all the field as his double was opposite field. He could be a big 2011 breakout for the Phillies.
3 Down:
Domingo Santana: Granted he just turned 18, he should have been in Williamsport all year and played instructional league ball until June. Massive trouble with breaking stuff and was flailing at stuff that was in the dirt in nearly every at bat. He also looks pretty filled out so he might not have as much projection left as people think.
Aaron Altherri: Just disappointed that he didn't play tonight. I wanted to see the tools, because He looked a lot like a younger Domonic Brown and had a very thin build.
Williamsport infield defense: This was some of the most shoddy defense I've ever seen. It looked like a little league team in Williamsport.
Shelby Miller vs. Tyler Matzek vs. Jacob Turner
Who do you guys have out of these three. Here are their numbers... Right now out of the three I would prefer Miller. People love Matzek but I hate his control and is getting very lucky this year.
Miller:

Alex Gordon moving to the Outfield
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-royals-gordon
How much dumber can this organization be. Their GM needs to be canned, honestly blow this team up. Like I said before and I don't mean to be an ass, if there is one team that needs to be contracted this is the team. The pirates aren't very far away with a load of talent in the minors. The Royals make mistake after mistake and will honestly won't win another division title in my lifetime.
Are we entering a Golden Age for Centerfielders
Kemp: Superstar 30/30 player, will he be a perennial MVP caliber player for years
McCutchen: Great speed, will he develope 25 HR pop and can the Pirates build around him
Rasmus: Rare mix of Power, Patience, and fielding, can he hit lefties
Fowler: How much power can he develope
Jackson: Can he become the next Granderson
Jennings: Is he the next Crawford
What do you guys think, do you think this is the next golden era for a certain position.
Is it time to give up on Brandon Wood
I know John has these sometimes and sometime they workout in the end ie. Justin Morneau but Brandon Wood is beginning to look like one of those classic 4A players. Too good for the minors, but can't hack it in the majors. Granted he's still only 25, but he's hitting under .100 with many K's and already has made 3 errors at 3rd. How much longer would you give him until he is officially done as a potential everyday player.
Andrew McCutchen vs. Desmond Jennings
Who do you like between these two. Honestly if they both hit their peak they are 10 time all stars and potential HOF players.
Andrew McCutchen: peak potential is Cesar Cedeno with a longer peak and also without the off the field trouble. People don't remember that Cedeno was on a HOF path before the gun incident which haunted him the rest of his playing days.
Desmond Jennings: peak potential is Ricky Henderson without the 100 SB seasons. If the power doesn't come his peak could be Tim Raines.
Better MLB career Montero or Heyward
Both of these kids are going to be 20 years old either in AAA or the majors though I see Montero going to AA for 200 AB's but both these kids could be monsters in the majors. Who hits for a higher average and who has more power in the end. Also while Montero is likely to be a DH and then maybe a 1st baseman when Tex is 35 or better. However, if Montero can play passive defense at catcher he could be a multiple time starter at catcher. Heyward I think is going to be in AAA for April and May and then get called up like Ryan Braun and Jay Bruce did. What do you project out of these two kids.
