BRoy's UW jersey to be retired
Sincere apologies if this has already been posted. I didn't see it up here, but I can't keep up with all the content at the BEdge these days.
Reposted from an update from the Fans of Brandon Roy facebook group:
Brandon Roy to have his University of Washington Jersey Retired tomorrow
Today at 2:53pm
Brandon Roy will have his No. 3 jersey retired in a ceremony prior to UW's game against USC tomorrow, becoming the second Husky player to receive such an honor. Bob Houbregs' No. 25 is the only other jersey the school has ever retired.
Roy, now playing in the NBA with the Portland Trailblazers, will be in attendance for the game.
"Honestly, I can't put it into words because I've never really dreamed of the day of having my jersey retired," Brandon said about the Honor. "I've been thinking, 'How does it feel? Could I imagine this?' As a kid, I always wanted to play college basketball. As I got older I saw that U-Dub was realistic but I just wanted to have a good career there. I never thought I would be one of the guys they would retire (their jersey). It's hard to explain. It's humbling. It's a very humbling experience. And I think as far as my accomplishments it definitely shoots right to the top."
Roy is remembered most by Husky fans as the catalyst for the revival of a UW basketball program that went four seasons in between NCAA tournament appearances, then made three straight during Roy's career.
His team-leading 20.2 points per game in the 2005-2006 season earned him a spot as a first-team All-American while leading the Huskies to their second consecutive run to the Sweet 16.
"You're talking about a guy who was here for four years," UW coach Lorenzo Romar said. "A guy who was part of three consecutive NCAA tournament teams. ... He was the player of the year in our conference his senior year and he was also a first-team All-American, and there are just not many that have got that done."

games with no local tv
i've been wondering what people do for these games that have no local tv coverage. (besides filling up the chat thread here on blazersedge). i usually find myself meeting some buddies at a sports bar. i feel like some of you must be doing the same thing (i saw on dave's poll a few weeks ago that i'm in this sites core demographic). i live in se portland and usually go to claudia's (3006 SE Hawthorne Blvd), and have also been to to a few others... but i digress, i'm not writing this diary to detail my bar habits, i'm writing to pose a few questions to my fellow readers:
does anyone else go out to watch these games that they can't watch at home? if so, where?
and who would be interested in attending some kind of massive blazersedge meetup for one of these non-televised games?
jarrett jack
anybody out there have any information on jj's status? it's been a week now since his run in with a parked car, and i haven't heard a word about when we might next see him on the court. after the way the blazers casually dismissed the injury at the time, is anyone else starting to worry about the severity of jj's injuries?
Jamaal and Lamarcus
a quick rant for my first diary post:
i am SO sick of hearing about how jamaal is getting all these minutes because the blazers are showcasing him for a trade. jamaal greatest trade value is NOT his ability to play, it is his expiring contract. besides jamaal is a vet, people know what he can (or can't) do... seriously, magloire is making $8.5 mil this year. nobody thinks he's worth $8.5 mil. nobody out there is looking a jamaal as a piece to put them over the top. they're looking at him for cap relief, and he'd be just as appealing on the bench.
i think the real reason mags is getting all his minutes is because nate thinks it gives the blazers the best chance to win on any given night. i've been known to 2nd guess nate's decisions from time to time, but you have to have faith that he knows his players and his team's needs better than you do. he is a professional basketball coach after all.
i know people are clamoring for lamarcus to get jamaal's minutes, and his skills and upside are clearly superior. and i know everybody likes to say that their stats/48 are nearly identical (not actually true, mags rebounds better). but jamaal must have at least 30 lbs. on the kid. mags is an intimidator, an enforcer, he scares opponents into missing shots (at least he does when he makes it back down the court). he is a physical presence that the zers desperately need, that's not someting that shows up in the stats. we have a very young team, and they look it compared to every team we play. that's why magloire is playing so much. everybody can hit the weight room in the off season and bulk up a little. it's not like the blazers are going to re-up on mags, we could use the cap relief too (ultimately i'd be shocked if mags gets traded), and lil' sheed aldridge will soak up the minutes next year.
lamarcus should get some of trout's minutes in the next couple of games at the 3 and the 4 (on account of the ankle sprain) so we'll see if he can change nate's mind. he's got a shot to prove himself. i hope he does.
okay. not such a quick rant. although it was the "quick chat" that set me off.
