Brew Crew Ball If the wheels come off....

I'm titling this post in honor of TSSC, who made a similar fanpost in early May of 2008.

http://www.brewcrewball.com/2008/5/4/472749/if-the-wheels-come-off

After what can only be described as a disastrous road trip for the Brewers (the injuries more than the 2-4 record), are we getting to the point where we need to take a sober look as to whether the window of opportunity for 2012 has slammed shut on us? And if it has, what should the Brewers do to build towards the future?

To summarize: Trading Napoli for Vernon Wells' contract = Bad idea.

If we stay ahead of the D-Backs, and the Cardinals can't catch the Braves, it looks like both Jurrjens and Hanson will miss the NLDS.

Know a team that needs a SS/3B/1B? Strikes out too much against Major League pitching, but a change of scenery might do him some good.

Halos Heaven An Angel Fan's Guide to the Brewers

As a rabid fan of both teams, I've been anticipating this series since I saw the 2007 schedule and learned that the two teams would NOT be facing each other in Interleague play until 2010.  And today it's here!  Woo!

In the interest of helping my fellow Angel fans truly appreciate the series, I thought I'd post a guide to the Brewers, seen through the eyes of someone who also appreciates the Halos.

You'll have to forgive me if this is somewhat rambling and stream-of-conciousness.  I had planned to do a more thorough job, but my Father's Day present arrived early (PS3 + MLB The Show 10 bundle), so I'm a little preoccupied.  I'm sure you understand.

Brew Crew Ball Help me program the Braunophile's iPod

So the Braunophile is about to turn 7.  He's to point now where he no longer listens to insipid kids' music (he likes rock and the occasional pop tune) but he's still young enough that I have to watch what's coming on the radio when we're driving in the car.  The wife and I have decided to get him an iPod Touch for his upcoming birthday.  While one of the main reasons is to get kid-friendly apps to keep him occupied in the car or on airplanes, I also want to load some playlists for him.  And, since he loves baseball, I'm looking to put together a kid-appropriate baseball-themed playlist.

Really cool analysis from Beyond the Boxscore rating umpire K/BB ratios. One big outlier: HH favorite Doug Eddings has the tightest strikezone (by far) of any umpire with significant data.

Rory was the Angels' play-by-play announcer for most of the past decade, but he was with the Brewers in the late 80s - early 90s, including 1992 - 1994 on TV.

Halos Heaven Preaching the Halo gospel to other teams' fans

As most of you know, I also follow a certain NL Central team.  In the interest of proselytizing the Church of the Lit Halo, I've posted (on Brew Crew Ball) a list of reasons Brewer fans should embrace the Angels for the remainder of the playoffs.  I thought I'd re-post it here, and encourage any of y'all to pop in over there and add your reasons.  Or do the same for other teams you follow.  Testify, brothers and sisters!

Brew Crew Ball Why Brewer fans should embrace the Halos

As promised, I have returned after the Angels' epic sweep of the BoSox to encourage you, my Brew Crew Ball brethren, to hop aboard the Halos' bandwagon while there's still time.  I therefore present, in list form, reasons why the Brewer faithful should transfer their allegiance to the Angels.  At least until, oh, sometime in Mid-November.

Halos Heaven Angels/Brewers trade idea

Bear with me here.  As most of you know, I have rooting (and I don't care what "rooting" means in Australia) interest in a certain NL Central team in addition to the Angels.  The Brewers had a great 2nd half of April and May, surged into first place in their division, but have dropped since due to injuries (Rickie Weeks, Dave Bush) and lack of starting pitching depth (after Yovani Gallardo, Jeff Suppan is statistically their 2nd-best starter right now!)  The Brewers have gone from buyers a week ago to potential sellers today, as the result of an abysmal start to the 2nd half.  (Consecutive blowout losses to the Nationals will do that to a team.)  On BrewCrewBall today (Brewers SBNation site) someone mentioned what they thought Angels might be willing to give up for bullpen help.

Rather amusing, though it features John Lackey's least-favorite former A.

Apparently there's some guy named "Ramirez" against whom he'll be pitching tonight. Who knew?

(Each of Ramirez's at-bats on Tuesday can be seen live on ESPNEWS. First pitch is at 9:05 p.m. ET.)

I'm torn.  I can't decide whether or not I want the White Sox to win today.

Brew Crew Ball Juggling the Rotation

After an abyssmal last couple of series against the Mets & Padres (mainly due to the lack of offense), we're looking at two key series against the Phillies & Cubs, sandwiched between six games against the Reds.  Should Ned consider making an adjustment to the rotation to ensure that our best pitchers throw against the teams we're battling for the playoffs?

Poll
Should the Brewers use a spot-starter against the Reds to line up the rotation against the Phillies?
Yes. We need to put our best pitchers on the mound in Philly.

No. The rotation is currently aligned to face the Cubs later. Leave it alone.

Dude, that's brilliant! That's why Ned will never do it....

Mainly a story about the Brewers, but it may be of interest to those speculating about Sabathia's future team.

Yes, it's only July, and they're just "Power Rankings," but it's still good to see the Crew getting their due.

'Course, the Halos are #1.

Some days, it's good to be me!

13? Seriously? Hello!?! Best record in baseball? Oh, wait, it's based on a computer simulation:

if = RedSox
then
= 1

Boy, that was easy.

Brew Crew Ball Questions for an Expat's first trip to Miller Park

I'll be making my first trip back to Wisconsin since 2000 in late June,
and I'm planning to take my wife & 4-year-old son to the Brewers/Orioles
game on Friday the 20th.  (It's the only game that fits in the family
travel schedule).  I went to plenty of games at County Stadium before
moving to SoCal in 1998, but this will be my first visit to Miller Park.
Personally, I'd be happy sitting in the Uecker seats with a couple of
brats, a bag of peanuts, and a six-pack of Miller Lite, but I need some
insider information to ensure that the family enjoys the game as much as
me!

Brew Crew Ball Spring Training Trip Report (Cross-posted from Halos Heaven)

If you don't want to read my long, boring, semi-snarky diary regarding this weekend's trip to Arizona, then move right along.  There's nothing else to see here.  And there isn't much genuine baseball insight, either, since I had to spend the entire trip riding herd on a preschooler.  That tends to detract from one's ability to monitor the pitch-by-pitch action.
