UNC doing UNC things

UNC players are giving each other concussions, in the name of "hazing." How fun!

Mike Scott Re-Signs with Hawks

It's official! The Hawks announced in a release that Mike Scott had signed a new contract to stay in Atlanta

UVA Basketball Schedule Release Tomorrow!!!

The UVA basketball schedule will be released tomorrow...but we have already been able to piece together most of the OOC.

The game against Tennessee State is unannounced, but it's part of the Barclay's Classic, so will take place before Thanksgiving. I'll guess it's on Monday the 24th. Then, we have Cleveland State and one mystery opponent. One will probably get crammed in between VCU and Harvard, while the other should be between Harvard and Davidson (or possibly after New Year's?)

Hat tip to this guy for putting the Cleveland State and Davidson games out there.

Ticket Sales Sluggish As Opener Nears

UVA fans could have seen this coming...but ticket sales for 2014 are really bad.

Virginia is expecting around 45k for its season opener against UCLA. To put that in perspective, the last time attendence was under 50k for a home opener was in 2005 against Maryland, when 42,800 were in the stands...but the stadium capacity was 40,000.

Collins puts a scare into the No. 2 player in the world

UVA's Danielle Collins turned heads at the US Open today, taking the first set from the #2 ranked player in the world before succombing 6-7(2), 6-1, 6-2

Virginia Tech football program looks for ways to address attendance issues

UVA isn't the only football program having attendance issues - this article in the Washington Post looks at how both the Hoos and the Hokies are dealing with it.

25 Maps that Explain College Football

If you haven't seen this yet, it's time to check it out.

Our parents at SBNation put together 25 maps that explain college football. I particularly like #12, which they used for the background, with a V-Sabre covering the state of Virginia.

Coach Marques Hagans Trick Shot

Former UVA QB, and current assistant coach, Marques Hagans is still awesome. Not only does he sink this shot...but man he's got an arm!

UVA Basketball Schedule Notes

UVA basketball will play in Harrisonburg against the JMU Dukes on Friday, November 14th, in what will likely be the team's season opener. Here's what else we know

UVA shout-out in new Brad Paisley song

For those of you who are into this kinda stuff, UVA gets a nod in Brad Paisley's new song, "Country Nation."

Paisley cites some college mascots like Mountaineers and Volunteers before getting to the Cavaliers around 2:35.

What Google 'autocomplete' reveals about ACC coaches

The title of the linked article above says it all - somebody typed each ACC coach's name into Google, and took a look at what the all-knowing search engine predicted he'd want to know.

A few takeaways: Everyone is curious about the woman behind the coaches. People want to see UNC coach Larry Fedora shirtless. There's something called the "Dabo Swinney Ladies Clinic." People are weird.

Andy Katz: Virginia to Play Georgetown in DC in 2015?

As we wait for the imminent release of the 2014-2015 UVA basketball schedule, Andy Katz reported a tidbit for the fall of 2015.

After speaking with G'town HC John Thompson III, Katz said that Thompson talked about the potential of playing UVA in the 2015 BB&T Classic in Washington, DC.

This would be a fun game (and a cool tournament to play in). Still, I'd prefer a home-and-home (like the ones that UVA has scheduled in the past against local teams like VCU and George Mason) rather than playing our "neutral site tournament" on Georgetown's home court. UVA is already scheduled to travel to DC to take on the GW Colonials in 2015.

First AP Poll of the season out

No, UVA didn't make the cut in this season's first AP Poll.

Florida State grabbed the top spot, followed by Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. UVA's first opponent, UCLA, came in at #7. UNC also made the cut at #23, and Duke, VT, Miami, Louisville, and BYU also received votes.

Phil Gosselin launches first career home run

Phil Gosselin, formerly of UVA and now of the Atlanta Braves, hit the first homer of his young career. Check out the video above. Congrats, Phil!

UVA Football Slow Jam

Welp, per our SBNation overlords, UVA does not deserve one of those awesome hype videos. Instead....we get slow jams like this one.

(Don't worry guys...when they aren't looking, we'll watch stuff like this again).

If our WRs were wine, which wines would they be?

Pretend all of UVA's wide receivers were bottles of wine...which types of wine would they be? This burning (and total UVA) question was thankfully answered at the blog Wahooze.

With Tim Smith's graduation, Virginia doesn't have much returning stat-wise to their WR corps. But adding Jamil Kamara (Reisling) and Andre Levrone (Chardonnay) at least adds some promise.

They compared running backs to beer before that too. This is fun.

UVA's troubled QB history

It's REALLY hard to put together a successful college football program without some stability and production from the QB position. UVA hasn't had that. Here's a look back

Everything Tony Bennett says is great

+'s Jeff White caught up with Tony Bennett to discuss summer practice. It's nice to hear Tony Bennett saying things again. Basketball season can't be far away!

Bennett discussed the summer workouts, which focused on individual development and were especially productive for the first-years. He also wished Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell well as they look to compete at the next level.

Coach Bennett's main advice to the team's newcomers was to slow down, and not worry about impressing right away. London Perrantes didn't turn many heads in the preseason, and ended the year as one of the conference's top first-years.

ACC-Big Ten Challenge Dates/Times Released - UVA vs. UMD Dec. 3rd

The full schedule has been released for the 2014 ACC - Big Ten Challenge. Remember, UVA was stuck with Maryland this year, which is really lame. The teams will square off in College Park on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 9:15 PM in a game broadcast by ESPN2.

Check out the link above for the full schedule. Last year's Challenge ended in a second consecutive 6-6 tie, with UVA suffering a 48-38 home loss to Wisconsin.

Joe Harris Taken 33rd by the Cleveland Cavaliers

Once a Cavalier, always a Cavalier. Joe is taken by the Cleveland Cavaliers early in the second round. He may struggle immediately to fit on a team with a number of perimeter options.

USA vs. Germany - STL's Game Thread!

We are still about two months away from the next time a UVA sports team takes the field. So, for a couple hours today, let's trade our orange in for red and white and cheer on the United States...
