Gang Green Nation Biography of a Jet: Tim Tebow

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - MARCH 26: Quarterback Tim Tebow addresses the media as he is introduced as a New York Jet at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on March 26, 2012 in Florham Park, New Jersey. Tebow, traded from the Denver Broncos last week, will be the team's backup quarterback according to Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, started 11 games in 2011 for Denver and finished with a 7-4 record as a starter. He led the Broncos to a playoff overtime win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round before eventually losing to the New England Patriots in the next round. (Photo by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images)

I tried to let the dust settle on this one before he got his own bio post. Love him or hate him, for better or worse, Tim Tebow is a New York Jet for at least the immediate future. Polarizing and controversial as he may be as a figure, he is entitled to his very own Biography of a Jet post like the others.

Tim Tebow was born Timothy Richard Tebow in Makati City, Philippines on August 14, 1987 to parents Robert Ramsey Tebow II and Pamela Elaine Tebow, a Baptist pastor and daughter of an accomplished U.S. Colonel, respectively. Tim has four siblings and at least four nieces and nephews. The boys of the family are bachelors, and professed missionaries and virgins. Please note there is nothing derogatory intended about statements about the Tebows faith or personal choices, I'm simply trying to illustrate that his decidedly un-famous family has made the same exact lifestyle choices he has, as have millions of people in and out of the U.S.

The youngest of the Tebows, Tim is already the most accomplished athlete of his family. We'll get into the life and times of our dear Tim, but it's gonna be a long one, so after the jump.

Gang Green Nation Biography of a Jet: Quinton Coples

NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 26: Quinton Coples of North Carolina holds up a jersey as he stands on stage after he was selected #16 overall by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall on April 26, 2012 in New York City. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

Vitals

DOB: 06-22-1990 (21 years old)

Height: 6 feet 6 inches Weight: 284 lb.

School: North Carolina

Position: DE

Quinton Coples was born in Kinston, North Carolina in 1990 to parents Gail Coples and Timothy Koontz. Under his personal profile on the tar heels web page it says his favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers (booooooo). We'll have to overlook that.

Coples initially attended Kinston High School in his hometown, however he transferred to Hargrave Military Academy for his senior school. In both schools, Coples was extremely successful and among top rated high school prospects at his position. Almost all viable scouting sites, including national sports media conglomerate ESPN, ranked Coples well inside the top 50 defensive ends coming out of high school. Playing on the Army All-America team gave Coples early fame, and got him into the coveted program at power school UNC.

In his freshman season at UNC Coples was largely a reserve but in the limited action he saw he was extremely disruptive in the backfield, getting 3.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery. Coples put on over 30 pounds for his sophomore year, and he became a rotational player for UNC. Once again in spite of his limited action, Coples put up significant sacks and tackles for losses again.

In 2010 Coples was forced to move to DT out of sheer team need. Proving his versatility, Coples had his most productive college season yet. His performances in the regular season and the Music City Bowl netted Coples All-ACC honors for the first time, and got him ranked among the top ten best DL college players in the country.

Coples moved back to end for his senior year, and his success became even more pronounced. Coples became the first UNC DE since Julius Peppers to receive back to back first team All-ACC awards over two years. That year Coples pulled down 24 sacks, 4th in the entire nation among college players as well as leading UNC in sacks and tackles for losses.

At the Combine, Coples ran a 4.78 second 40 yard dash, the same time as his 20 yard shuttle. Coples had 25 bench press reps, a 31.5 inch vertical jump, a 109 inch long jump, and a 7.57 second 3 cone drill. In spite of what several GGN members will tell you about Coples falling to us, evaluating most mocks and projections, Coples was actually more of a reach at 16.

Some analysts didn't like Coples senior tape, and his motor is frequently questioned. However, very few prospects are as progressively successful over their college careers as Coples was filling whatever team role was asked of him at UNC. Coples has frequently been compared to Julius Peppers, and I actually think Quinton has the skill to surpass his predecessor. If there is any coach in the NFL that can help Coples take the next big step, it is Rex Ryan.

Welcome to the New York Jets, Quinton Coples. Here's hoping you are a dominant force on this team for years to come.

Gang Green Nation Biography of a Jet: Stephen Hill

ATLANTA, GA - OCTOBER 29: Stephen Hill #5 of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets celebrates their 31-17 win over the Clemson Tigers at Bobby Dodd Stadium on October 29, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Vitals

DOB: 04-25-1991 (21 years old)

Height: 6 feet 4 inches Weight: 215 lb.

School: Georgia Tech

Position: Wide Receiver

Another son of the South, Stephen Hill was born in Tucker, Georgia in 1991 to Henry and Karen Hill. Hill went to Miller Grove High School in Georgia, receiving high grades from school scouts and being ranked as the 99th best receiving prospect in high schools around the nation by Rivals, and was ranked 23rd by Scout. Hill is well known for shattering high school long jump records.

Information available on Stephen Hill is limited. Part of this is due to the reason that Stephen Hill was featured in an option offense for three seasons before leaving school early to enter the draft as a hot prospect. In his entire college career, Hill has only 49 receptions for 1,248 yards and 9 touchdowns. Stephen Hill is also an extraordinary blocker for his position, probably a major contributing factor in the Jets decision to draft him. It is also worth noting that Demaryius Thomas came from the same offense and transitioned well into the NFL.

While his college production is limited, Hill makes up for this with his impressive scouting numbers and reports. At the NFL Combine, Hill ran a 4.36 second 40 yard dash. He had an 11 foot 1 inch long jump, just a few inches short of the Combine record, drawing heavy comparisons to Calvin Johnson. Hill also delivered a 39.25 inch vertical jump, a 6.88 second cone drill, 14 bench press reps, and a 4.48 second 20 yard shuttle. His arms are over 33 inches in length and his hands are over 9 inches.

Prior to being drafted Hill received a great deal of praise from Vinny Testaverde, who threw to Hill for the Combine. Vinny called Hill a stud and spoke highly of his skills, something that likely helped encourage the Jets. Joey Clinkscales echoed Vinny's sentiments and compared Stephen Hill to Calvin Johnson in terms of skill.

Already being promoted as a starter by Rex Ryan, Hill is widely expected to fall into the Jets #2 WR spot, justifying the team trading up to take Hill. If it is a deep threat that you desire, Stephen Hill just may be the solution we have been looking for. While largely based on potential and physical tools alone, I think Stephen Hill may very well end up outshining Justin Blackmon in the pros.

Welcome to the New York Jets, Mister Hill.

Gang Green Nation Biography of a Jet: Demario Davis

January 28, 2012; Mobile, AL, USA; North Squad defensive back Leonard Johnson (23) of Iowa State and linebacker Demario Davis (28) celebrate a defensive play during the Senior Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Chuck Cook-US PRESSWIRE

Vitals

DOB: 01-11-1989 (23.33 years old)

Height: 6 feet 2 inches Weight: 235 lb.

School: Arkansas State

Position: Linebacker

Demario Davis was born in world-famous and sunny Brandon, Mississippi to Sue Magee and Steven Davis in 1989. The young Davis attended Brandon High School, and was rated the 86th best player at his position out of all students in the entire nation. In 2006 Davis accomplishments included Mac First Team All-State and being Clarion Ledger All Metro selections. While a defender the majority of his academic career, Davis played wide reciever for significant stretches in high school, and has extremely impressive ball skills for a LB prospect. Davis was also active in basketball and track in high school.

In his first year at Arkansas State, Davis took redshirt status and did not play in any games. The next year he played a mostly quiet 11 games, his biggest impact being a 53 yard fumble return for a touchdown.

in 2009, Davis' football career began to take shape. Playing OLB, Davis led the team in tackles for losses and forced fumbles, and he tied for lead in sacks. The same year Davis made two honor rolls and was an All-Sun Belt Conference selection and was his conferences player of the week once. In 2010 Davis continued to be productive and received several more All-Sun Belt Conference honors as well as honor rolls. Davis' production was consistently among the best in his conference again. Throughout 2011 Demario Davis found himself on countless watch lists, as scouts and pro football fans alike eagerly awaited his entrance into the pros. Davis stockpiled nearly 230 tackles in his college career.

At the Combine Davis ran a 4.53 second 40 yard dash, a 4.28 second 20 yard shuttle, a 7.19 second 3 cone drill, a 38.5 inch vertical jump, a 10 foot 4 inch long jump, and 32 bench press reps and an 11.65 60 yard shuttle. At his pro day workout, Davis ran a 1.63 second 10 yard split, and a 2.72 second 20 yard split.

Davis played weak and strong side on the outside in college, however many project Davis to eventually slide into ILB and replace the expensive and aging Bart Scott. Others have observed that with staff and player changes the Jets are just as likely to switch to a dominant 4-3 scheme. Davis should see no shortage in playing time in any circumstance, as he is versatile and can play virtually any linebacker spot or role. Davis is a promising replacement for any LB not named Harris.

I personally think this is a very promising player who was a great grab in the third round. Welcome to the New York Jets, Demario.

Gang Green Nation Who Will Make the Team?

NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 26: Fans of the New York Jets react during the 2012 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall on April 26, 2012 in New York City. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

An article from the Daily News expands on some tweets Mehta made that we discussed earlier in the week. Let's do a little analysis of our draft picks and Rex Ryan's words and see if we can't make some educated guesses about who will be on the team for the 2012-13 NFL season.

Who is in?

DE Quinton Coples: This one is self-explanatory. The prospective talent with tremendous upside will be with us for a bare minimum of a year, probably much longer. Rex disclosed that Coples is as good as a starter as of right now, however he also implied that Coples will not be an every-down defensive player.

WR Stephen Hill: Another new Jet that Rex suggests will start right away. Hill is one of several players the Jets drafted with experience in an option offense in school. Hill may be raw but it appears as though he was specifically drafted due to an ability to play for either of the Jets top QB's, something Rex denies.

RB Terrance Ganaway: Mark my words, Ganaway is a 6th Round steal and he is a superior back to Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight, and he will almost certainly either replace one of the inferior backs, or just join the fray as a 4th back.

OLB Demario Davis: Rex and the FO seem very high on this guy, so I'm counting on him being around for the near future.

OL Robert T. Griffin: I predict that the other RG will find a spot on the team as a Jets backup lineman. He's large and promising and was quite productive late in his college career. T. Griffin is not going to take the line back to its roots, but he does have solid depth written all over him.

VP of College Scouting Joey Clinkscales: The same report from Mehta and the Daily News says that any reports that Clinkscales will be leaving the Jets for the Raiders are false.

RT Wayne Hunter: Ryan has all but declared Hunter the starter for this season at RT. We're stuck with him.

Who could be gone?

LB Bart Scott: Rex Ryan had this to say of new talent OLB Davis:

"He reminded me of a young Bart Scott," Ryan said.

Ouch. Not what I would want to hear if I was an embattled and overpaid LB whose future with the team was seriously called into question from before Davis was even selected. Bart Scott may very well stay on the team through the 2012 season, but his long term future with the team is bleak.

FB John Conner: I'm personally disappointed that Conner has surfaced as a potential causality of the new Sparano offense. Rex and the media have called into question whether or not Conner (and a true FB in general) has a place on the Jets right now. Nothing is written in stone, Mike T had this to say:

"We still think John will be here... He’s on the team for now, obviously," Tannenbaum said.

RB Bilal Powell: My gut says Ganaway takes his roster spot, but they could always opt to move someone else, like Joe McKnight.

DE Mike DeVito: Rex Ryan directly said that he no longer is sure about the role DeVito will play on the Jets with the drafting of Coples. Working in DeVito's favor are already being paid a roster bonus, and the fact that Coples may not be an every down defender.

Who do you think has a good chance of making the team? Who do you think is dead weight now?

Gang Green Nation Patriots LT Matt Light to Retire

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - FEBRUARY 01: Matt Light #72 of the New England Patriots answers questions from the press during a media availability session for Super Bowl XLVI at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on February 1, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images)

Normally I don't follow other teams offseason transactions with posts, but this is a development that favors the New York Jets and is worth discussing. The New England Patriots have reportedly lost a major cog in their offensive line as left tackle Matt Light will retire from the NFL at the age of 33. Florio broke the news, and since then both NFL league sources and SBN sister blog Pats Pulpit have confirmed the story.

Some of you who keep your ear to the ground for murmurs around the AFC East might not be surprised to read this as rumors have been floating around the league about Light's possible exodus from the game at least on-field for a while. Still, the impact on the field is undeniable. Light was named to the Pro Bowl in one capacity or another 4 times, and was with the Patriots ever since they selected him in the 2nd round (48th overall) in 2001. This run includes starts in 5 AFC Championship wins and 3 Super Bowl victories. After the first two games of 2001, Light started in every single game he played in, including not missing any time in 8 of his 10 veteran seasons.

Gregg Rosenthal had this to say about the Patriots contingency plans:

They are expected to move last year's first-round pick, Nate Solder, to left tackle, with second-year pro Marcus Cannon at right tackle until Sebastian Vollmer can prove himself healthy. New pickup Robert Gallery will provide depth at guard, and starter Brian Waters could wind up getting some of the money that the Patriots will save with Light coming off the books.

The implications for the Jets disruption of the Patriots line and backfield are tremendous. If Gang Green selects a pass rusher that can immediately contribute in the 2012 draft (and I realize this is a big if), this could easily impact the outcome of Jets-Patriots games. The Patriots have been planning for this, and nobody fills a need as effectively as the Pats, but with the departure of Light comes significant health and depth questions regarding their O line.

Just a little good news to help you along in your day. Do you think Matt Light retiring will improve the Jets chances this year, or was it just inevitable that our rival get younger on the line?

Gang Green Nation Santonio Holmes Hosts Player Workout

ORCHARD PARK, NY - NOVEMBER 06: Mark Sanchez #6 and Santonio Holmes #10 of the New York Jets celebrate Holmes' touchdown in the third quarter against the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium on November 6, 2011 in Orchard Park, New York. New York won 27-11. (Photo by Rick Stewart/Getty Images)

Sometimes, when someone has been a bad apple in the past, everything negative or controversial they do is put under a magnifying glass, while everything good that the same person does is swept under a rug or just outright dismissed by critics.

Such is the case this week, as The Star-Ledger reported to little fanfare that Holmes was hosting a player workout in Orlando, Florida according to Santonio's trainer Tom Shaw. Holmes typically spends his offseasons in the popular tourism hub in Central Fla, and this year he invited Mark Sanchez, Dustin Keller, and Patrick Turner down to participate in workouts. Titans running back Chris Johnson and former Jet Larry Taylor also joined them. Joe McKnight was invited as well and may join them at a later date. From one of my favorite ladies/beat reporters; Jenny Vrentas:

The players arrived Monday and will work out together all week, before heading up to New Jersey for the start of the offseason program. Today's session was for five hours, on the long side because Sanchez led a throwing session at the end. The Jets don't have their new playbooks from new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano yet, but Shaw said Sanchez was calling out routes and plays from his own notes -- possibly those notes he he took when he met with former Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington to learn Sparano's system.

Shaw himself divulged a number of juicy and highly encouraging tidbits, such as:

Mark was in charge, everyone was listening to his instructions," Shaw said. "Guys from other teams, too...Once we finished the workout for the day, Sanchez took over. He was in charge of the whole offensive part. He is working hard, and he's doing everything he can to get better."

I imagine this will instantly stir bitterness and criticism from memories of the relative ineffectiveness of "Jets West Camp" hosted by Mark Sanchez in So Cal in the wake of the lockout uncertainty and negotiations. This was also in David's flight connections but Santonio Holmes gets so much negative press (and rightfully so after the end of last season) that I felt old 'Tone deserves some positive scrutiny for a proactive approach.

Dustin Keller had this to say to his teammates after the session:

"we got that good work in today!!"

This is how men mend fences. Not through fancy NYC dinners or long emotional conversations or public apologies/crow eating. Beefs are best settled among friends and colleagues through silent, constructive mutual activity. The players also will visit Walt Disney World and the area theme parks for some fun in the sun before heading back North.

I've been a pretty vocal critic of Holmes in the aftermath of the 2011-12 season and his role in it, but this solution-oriented way of taking charge in fixing things deserves applause. We're stuck with each other at least through this season, and both parties need to make the absolute most of it. Santonio, I salute you.

Gang Green Nation What's Left in the Bank and on the Market?

Have you seen this man? Forward any tips to Florham Park. Feb 23, 2012; Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

With the better part of a month still remaining before the 2012 NFL draft begins and my sanity is granted a reprieve from mock drafts for another year, many GGN users are wondering if the team will make any more significant moves in the fleeting days of free agency before moving fully into draft mode. So here is a breakdown of what The Jets have and can still get. From NFL.com, here are the Jets fiscals (current as of yesterday):

New York Jets
Current contracts: 50
Previous year carryover: $8,275,000.00
Adjustments: $1,196,600.00
Adjusted cap: $130,071,600.00
Team cap: $122,379,317.00
Cap room: $7,692,283.00
Team cash: $118,025,500.00

This, like the teams cap space to start free agency, is about dead middle rank in the league. Some teams have virtually no capital, while annual like-clockwork disaster franchises like the Jaguars and Buccaneers have closer to or above 20 million dollars left to spend, if they so choose.

Players Gained: Tim Tebow (QB) for 4th and 6th round picks. LaRon Landry (SS). Chaz Schilens (WR). Scotty McKnight (WR).

Players Lost: Drew Stanton (QB) and a 7th rd pick for a 2012 6th rd pick. Mark Brunell (QB). Plaxico Burress (WR). Brodney Pool (DB). Robert Turner (OL - coming off IR). Matthew Mulligan (TE). Jamaal Westerman (LB). Marquice Cole (DB). LaDainian Tomlinson (RB). Kevin O'Connell (QB). Donald Strickland ??? Jim Leonhard (coming off IR) ???

Re-signed: Bryan Thomas (coming off IR), Sione Pouha, Mark Sanchez, Nick Folk, Patrick Turner. Aaron Maybin tendered.

Remaining Needs: OT, OLB/pass rush, FS, WR, RB, P.

Still Available @ Running Back: Cedric Benson, Ryan Grant, Tim Hightower, Justin Forsett, Mewelde Moore, Ronnie Brown, Thomas Jones, Derrick Ward, Joseph Addai, Sammy Morris, Cadillac Williams.

@ Wide Receiver: Braylon Edwards, Jerome Simpson, Jerricho Cotchery, Lee Evans, Patrick Crayton, Roy Williams, Greg Camarillo, Michael Clayton, Bryant Johnson, Chansi Stuckey, Courtney Roby, Arnaz Battle, Terrell Owens.

@ Offensive Tackle: Marcus McNeill, Demetrius Bell, Kareem McKenzie, Max Starks, Tony Pashos, Barry Richardson, Trai Essex, Pat McQuistan, Stephon Heyer, James Lee, Brandon Keith.

@ Outside Linebacker: Rocky McIntosh, Leroy Hill, Gary Guyton, Joey Porter, Ernie Sims, Bobby Carpenter, Mario Haggan, Thomas Williams, Mike Peterson, Brady Poppinga, Clark Haggans, David Vobora, Omar Gaither, Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

@ Safety: O.J. Atogwe, Melvin Bullit, Deon Grant, Sean Jones, Chris Harris, Yeremiah Bell, Abram Elam, Chris Hope, Reggie Smith, Brian Dawkins, Courtney Greene, Dominique Barber, Gibril Wilson, Husain Abdullah, Jon McGraw, James Sanders, James Ihedigbo, Matt Giordano, Corey Lynch, Sabby Piscitelli, Bobby Sanders, Hamza Abdullah.

@ Punter: Mat McBriar, Jason Baker, Dave Zastudil.

2012 Draft Picks: #16, #47, #77, 5th round exact order TBD, 6th round (Stanton) TBD, 7th round (Tebow) TBD. Jets have traded away one 4th, 6th, and 7th round pick each.

So, what would you do if given total control over the Jets FO and purse strings today? What direction would you take this team in? Is there anything you could reasonably do heading into the draft to address the teams needs?

Gang Green Nation Obligatory "Be Nice or I'll Hurt You" Thread

It's kind of upsetting that this requires such a broad announcement.

The next time you put down a person on GGN whose opinions you don't like as stupid, youthful and ignorant, mentally deficient or disabled; intoxicated, annoying, a "fake fan", unwelcome; or somehow inferior to you in any manner of speaking just for making their voice heard, stop and take a good long look at yourself.

Does a mature, mentally alert, intelligent, sober, "real" fan really need to revert to such middle school tactics to win an internet argument? Are you really going to act like you have it all together and figured out on a sports fan internet user board at 4 in the morning on the weekend? I genuinely feel bad for you if you think you do. It's very unlikely that you're better than anyone else here, no matter what your creed or education level is, or who you root for in sports.

I don't care who they are and where they come from. I don't care if they like the Jets or the Broncos or the Myrtle Beach Mermen. I don't care if they love Tebow, if they hate Tebow, or if they are just generally disappointed or pleased with Tebow. If you can't treat people with respect then refrain from commenting on that users posts. Keep your passive aggressive bullying to yourself. You don't dictate who uses this site. Your dumb opinion isn't the be all end all formula to fixing a football team, and neither is my dumb opinion.

I'm absolutely disgusted with some of our most prolific members and visitors right now, and part of it is my fault allowing a certain tone to resonate here, or even partaking in exclusive behavior. GGN, and the rest of the world, is bigger than you. Without the eyes of thousands of people who couldn't disagree with you more reading your words, your comments would be absolutely pointless.

This will be deleted to make room for actual football discussion after a day when everyone has had a chance to read it. If you're an adult that is smarter than your internet adversary, act like it. And fair warning, it's been a pretty long time since I went on one of my famous nasty streaks, so it's advisable to keep the indignant explanations of why you're exempt from being civil to one another to yourself along with the bullying.

GIF's and other things to lighten the mood are welcome, but like I said this is getting deleted eventually.

Gang Green Nation Jets to Blame for Tebow Trade Falling Through?

PITTSBURGH - DECEMBER 19: New York Jets Special Teams Coach Mike Westhoff (L) and General Manager Mike Tannenbaum talk before the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on December 19 2010 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. (Photo by Karl Walter/Getty Images)

As John B just broke to you, the deal for Tim Tebow with the Denver Broncos has been imperiled by a disagreement over money. There's an article from the NFL where the "complex" situation Adam Schefter originally broke is outlined in further detail. According to the NFL this is a unique situation that is fairly unprecedented as no team would agree to a deal where the trading franchise attempted to recoup money from the original rookie contract, and money is rarely if ever exchanged in this manner in the NFL.This would add 5 million dollars to the cost of Tebow; the expense would fall to the Jets as the team obtaining the QB.

Why would the Jets FO agree to a such a bizarre and undesirable deal that every other team knew was foul? Because they never read the contract of the player they were trying to trade for. From the NFL:

...according to NFL.com’s Jeff Darlington, Broncos sources contend there’s no reason for the Jets to be able to back away from their decision to trade for Tebow. The Jets agreed to the trade, even announcing it on their official Twitter page, a source said. It’s their problem — not the Broncos’ — that the Jets failed to review the language of Tebow’s contract before agreeing to the trade.

Several other teams, the sources contend, were unwilling to make the trade knowing they’d have to pay nearly $5 million to the Broncos, per the language of Tebow’s original contract. The fact that the Jets didn’t do this, a source says, isn’t the Broncos’ fault.

Though the Jets announced the trade, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora that no trade papers were filed with the NFL on this deal, so there never was a fully valid trade.

I don't mean to be a glass-is-half-shattered kind of guy, but isn't it funny that a deeply unpopular move was potentially averted by the lack of due diligence by the front office attempting to acquire Tebow? Throughout my writings and rantings in my time with SBN, I have often even wondered myself if I was too harsh on Mike T, or placed too large a portion of responsibility for team failings on his dealings. Maybe I'm jumping the gun with this report, but the Jets under Mike Tannenbaum's has been an absolute circus and the GM needs to improve his image and fix genuine team needs if he wishes to save his job, and even then it might be too late.

From the sounds of it, The Broncos are attempting to hold the Jets to a verbal binding agreement by citing their Twitter account announcement, which could actually make this a ground breaking legal and ethics case for the business as well as the courts if either team chooses to pursue the matter far enough.

The Broncos really have quite some...fortitude in making this demand, however I really have to place the fault with the Jets for not knowing the terms of the deal before they made it. It looks like the team just might escape Tim Tebow, but only by fault of the GM responsible for trying to sign him in the first place.

Words really fail me. What do you think about the potential escape from the Tebow trade? Who would you "blame" if the trade fell through?

Gang Green Nation Jets Looking At Patriots Free Agent RB Green-Ellis

EAST RUTHERFORD NJ - SEPTEMBER 19: BenJarvus Green-Ellis #42 of the New England Patriots is tackled by David Harris #52 of the New York Jets at the New Meadowlands Stadium on September 19 2010 in East Rutherford New Jersey. According to the New York Post and NFL.com the New York Jets are among the teams interested in possibly adding Patriots running back turned free agent BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Other teams linked to Green-Ellis include the Bengals and of course the Patriots, who have limited reliable options behind Green-Ellis.

The Jets have not yet planned to meet with Green-Ellis and they may very well not, and the Patriots are still the favorite to land Green-Ellis this offseason. The Jets interest in Green-Ellis according to sources is "preliminary". For all we know this is a tactic to drive up his asking price, although I doubt the Jets FO is preoccupied with that right now considering everything else it has to deal with.

Perhaps the most attractive thing about the idea of Green-Ellis joining the Jets (besides taking something potentially useful from the Patriots) is that he never really coughs up the football, in fact in 53 games played and 510 rushing attempts, Green-Ellis has never fumbled. Over a 4 season career, Green Ellis has rushed 510 times for 2,064 yards and 29 touchdowns with a long of 33 and no turnovers.

Youth and ball security would be a nice commodity for this team, but I'm not sure the Jets can afford it right now.

How about you? Would you like to add BenJarvus to the team, or look elsewhere/focus on other needs?

Gang Green Nation Schefter: Jets Have "Discussed" Trading For Tim Tebow

I really have no interest in spreading Tebow hype, especially relating to the Jets. Still, you have to admit that out of countless sources that we use at GGN, Adam Schefter is among the most reliable. Which is why it's notable that Schefter is reporting via twitter that the Jets are among the half dozen or so teams that are expressing at least minimal interest in Tebow.

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter

Here's one other team that has discussed trading for Tim Tebow, even if it is considered a longshot: the Jets.

That's right, GGN faithful. It's now featured on ESPN as well as NFL.com that the Jets are at least talking about kicking the tires on a potential trade. Before you go crazy, the supposed interest expressed in Tebow by all of the alleged suitors ranges from a 2nd to a 7th round conditional pick. The Jaguars and the Packers are the two other identified teams that are not denying interest in Tim Tebow. San Francisco and the Miami Dolphins are denying any interest, while the Packers apparently may be willing to part with a late round pick. The Jaguars new owner has expressed interest in Tebow, and Jacksonville is far and away the most likely destination for the young QB, as the smaller market is desperate for a boost in attendance and the Florida alumni could bring the sort of hype the Jags so desperately need.

My first instinct is that the Jets interest is being overstated even as a long shot, and that's just assuming it isn't a perpetuated substanceless rumor. But if the Jets do by some thread of the needle get Tebow, it will be as a backup and for a draft price nowhere near his original cost. Bet on the Jaguars.

Would you want Tim Tebow as a backup QB for the Jets, or not? How would you react if against all odds, the Jets traded for him?

Gang Green Nation OP ED: Dustin Keller Is Still Pretty Darn Good

Perhaps one of the most controversial and divisive issues this offseason is how to address the Tight End position and whether or not the Jets would be better served by parting ways with starter Dustin Keller and finding a more complete TE. Rumors have been floated and several people, both industry insiders and amateur bloggers, have brought up Keller's name as potential trade bait for clearing cap space.

First, let's examine production. 2011: 65 receptions for 815 yards 5 TD's 41 long 12.5 avg and 1 fumble. Career: 213 receptions for 2,559 yards 15 TD's 54 long 12.0 avg and 2 fumbles.

Dustin Keller is still the favorite receiver of Quarterback Mark Sanchez, who we now know will be with the Jets for at least the immediate foreseeable future. Only five Tight Ends in the entire NFL pulled down more receiving yards than DK (815) last season. 8 Tight Ends caught more passes in 2011. About half a dozen Tight Ends who are also starters had higher receiving averages, only a couple of whom had anywhere near Keller's receptions last year. 11 Tight Ends had more TD passes than Keller in 2011, all but 2 of them only had 1 or 2 more TD receptions than Keller. Two Tight Ends had substantially more 20+ yard receptions.

Dustin Keller only had 1 40+ yard reception in 2011, but the leader two slots ahead of him had 3. Keller tied at 10th with Fred Davis among Tight Ends for first downs. With the exception of Gronkowski, all of the Tight Ends who performed at or above the level of DK had more fumbles to his 1 turnover. Production wise; only Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Jermichael Finley, Jason Witten, Aaron Hernandez, and Tony Gonzalez consistently outperformed Keller. Vernon Davis and Kellen Winslow were spotty. Fred Davis would have outshone Keller if he hadn't been suspended. Only Rob Gronkowski outdid DK in every single aspect.

DK is a top ten TE in every regard, and if you average his performance across the board, he's top 5 material. BUT, there's a very good argument that people have against him: Dustin Keller cannot block well at all. Sad but true. But if you examine several of these top names, very few of them are effective blockers. They're just roughneck versions of receivers. Especially the ones that benefit from powerful arms of QB's like Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees.

Is DK's salary so cumbersome that the Jets should trade Sanchez's favorite target and downgrade our receiving in order to get a good blocker that they might even already have in the form of Jeff Cumberland (I know, wishful thinking)? Does DK's single greatest weakness undo the top tier performance he gave last year? Personally speaking, I cannot justify downgrading for cash or a blocker. This is a receiver starved team, and whether or not the Jets have a viable #1 (or #2) receiver is a matter of debate right now. People complained that the team gave Sanchez less and asked more of him last year. If you expect different results from trading or cutting ties with Keller, you're silly.

The team won't even get near what DK is worth in this market. Then Sanchez will be out his favorite target, and that still doesn't even guarantee the Jets will find an effective blocker. The Jets still have cap space, and even if they didn't could clear it quickly by making moves like cutting Eric Smith.

For all of these reasons and more I am adamantly opposed to parting with Dustin Keller. Where do you stand on this issue?

Gang Green Nation Jets Reportedly Agree to Terms With LaRon Landry

According to Michael Lombardi the Jets have come to terms with Safety LaRon Landry on a 1 year 4 million dollar contract. This addresses what many feel was the Jets most dire need as they only had one Safety on the roster, the unpopular Eric Smith.Per Lombardi:

So to recap correctly, Laron Landry has agreed to a contract with the NY Jets and the Pats agreed with offensive lineman Robert Gallery

If Landry stays healthy and plays at least most of the season for the Jets, this should be a notable upgrade at the Strong position. Free Safety remains a major question mark, but reports have linked the Jets to O.J. Atogwe, as John B has reported to you previously. There are a few other decent options to fill a FS gap if need be, but options are fleeting. The Jets must make another move at Safety if they are going to address it through free agency this year.

I'm sure we'll have more detailed reports of the terms of the deal between Landry and the Jets as details emerge. This is a preliminary celebration thread that I'm sure many of you will make use of. One half of our Safety problem is taken care of, IF Landry is healthy. Rejoice below.

Gang Green Nation The Best Case Scenario

Lay down your Jets beach towel and give praise to the Spirits of American Football past and present. Peyton Manning has decided to sign with the Denver Broncos. Not only does this mean we'll be seeing very limited amounts of Peyton in New Jersey (if at all) for the rest of his playing career, this also means that the Miami Dolphins have bottomed out in their QB search. After being snubbed by Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn, the Dolphins were also outbid by the Redskins for the #2 draft pick for RGIII.

Now it's likely the 49ers will go harder at re-signing Alex Smith. Matt Hasselbeck will remain with the Titans. The only notable FA the Dolphins have expressed interest in that is not yet really off the market is the aged and declining David Garrard. It's becoming increasingly likely the Dolphins either have to stick with Matt Moore or take a project QB in the draft. The Phins passer situation makes our Safety issues look like peanuts.

Tim Tebow is now on the trading block, but I really do not fear him coming into our division at all. Who would you rather face this year; Matt Moore, Tim Tebow, or David Garrard?

Happy Day.

Gang Green Nation Free Agency Watch: Salary Cap Winners and Losers

Feb 24, 2012; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Denver Broncos general manager John Elway speaks at a press conference during the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

For the sake of fairness, it could be noted that salary cap "winners" are more often than not (but not always) your worst teams from the previous year.

Here are the rough cap numbers from La Canfora. These are based on Mondays numbers, so deals such as the Sione Pouha extension are not factored in largely speaking. The cap number is constantly changing as of today, so this rough list is subject to heavy and frequent shifts in numbers.

Highlights: Despite being a fixture at third place in the division, the Dolphins have the least money to spend out of any AFC East team with just under 10 million until the cap limit. Buffalo has the most to spend in the division, nothing new. The Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, and Arizona Cardinals are all well over the cap. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders all have less than 2 million to spend.

Due to size constraints, the list of "winners" and "losers" will be after the jump. Feel free to post your thoughts about the cap in general, or how much of an impact you think we can have in free agency with these numbers.

Gang Green Nation Free Agents by Position: Safety

CHICAGO - OCTOBER 24: LaRon Landry #30 of the Washington Redskins tackles Johnny Knox #13 of the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on October 24 2010 in Chicago Illinois. T(Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

This was supposed to be one of the very last free agency breakdowns by position, but the field has changed so drastically in the last day or so that we're doing it now. GGN moderator rexthejet asked what options are left in free agency at Safety after the franchise tags have been applied. The simple answer is not very much at all.

One of the thinnest positions in NFL 2012 free agency just got a heck of a lot thinner. Tyvon Branch of the Raiders, Michael Griffin of The Titans, and Dashon Goldson of the San Francisco 49ers all have been franchised by their respective teams. This means that unless another team sells most of the farm to get one of these players via trade, all of these top tier safeties will be remaining with their former teams through the 2012-13 season. Also notable is that young productive DB Thomas DeCoud has re-signed with the Atlanta Falcons instead of testing the market, making the field even thinner.

To be perfectly honest, this is discouraging. Safety was already in high demand in a shallow FA talent pool. The draft is not a strong class for Safeties by any stretch either. As John B mentioned, demand will in turn increase contract pricing of Safeties in a year where we are in very questionable cap standing. Not only are there less Safeties, with the four top options gone before free agency is even close to officially starting, the few remaining options will be incredibly costly.

Also removed from the list in addition to these four names off the market are restricted free agents such as Darian Stewart from the Rams. Getting a Safety will be pricey enough without matching offers and sending draft picks away. As always, this list is constructed by market demand, not by who is the best fit for the Jets. Worth noting is that Jim Leonhard, Brodney Pool, and Donald Strickland (who sometimes plays Safety) are all hitting the market this offseason. There are many NFL free agency lists out there, but only NFL.com claims Leonhard is one of the 5 notable options remaining at Safety. I like Leonhard more than most, but that is a statement to how thin this herd is. Many fans and followers of Gang Green also expect S Eric Smith to be cut in between seasons.

Potentially departing (or re-signing) Jets mentioned above are not included either. You know who they are already. List after the jump. Comment on who you'd like on the Jets, if any of them at all, below.

Gang Green Nation Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson Goes Out With Darrelle Revis, Gets Peed On.

This title may be a bit deceiving, as the first occurrence is largely independent from the second. Sorry if you had your hopes up.

I have to admit, when I read a Lion urinated on Chad Johnson at a charity event in Miami widely attended by NFL players, I figured I would next be reading about Ndamukong Suh being charged with drunk and disorderly and battery. Not the case, as apparently the big cat from Africa was to blame.

Chad was on the town with his fiancée and long-standing conference rival Darrelle Revis when large adult male lion apparently decided he didn't care much for Johnson and his 15 catch performance this year, or his Spanish-mangling name-changing ways. The large feline took aim at Chad's face and sprayed him with urine. Apparently the Lion was not interested in marking Chad's woman or Revis Island as his territory, just the aging receiver who still hasn't changed his dumb name back after promising to several times.

As anyone would react, Johnson forwent bathing and took his story immediately to twitter. Watch him go through the seven stages of grief in a very public manner below.

"Swear to lil 10 pound bearded baby Jesus I just got peed on by a real 'Lion' I'm not lying either. And y'all wonder why I don't go out!!!!!"

"I put that on my LIFE it just happen, i'm not lying."

"No i'm serious, ask @evelynlozda or @revis24 RT @TylerCosta2 @ochocicno tweet a pic of the lion AND the pee..then we will believe you"

"It's not funny i have on my good church clothes"

"I wasn't that close, he sprayed like a water gun"

"I can't believe some of you find such a horrific and emotionally draining accident so funny. I'm disgusted at all of you who laughed."

"I never go out at night n the night I do I get peed on by a real 'Lion' I feel honored, who can say they got peed on by a 'Lion'".

Probably half of the hookers in Detroit.

I love these feel-good stories.

Gang Green Nation Biography of a Jet #2: Sione Pouha

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 11: Sione Pouha #91 of the New York Jets reacts against the Minnesota Vikings at New Meadowlands Stadium on October 11, 2010 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

GGN presents to you profiles of Jets players both past and present. This week we alternate to someone on the current roster, for a few more days at least, Sione Pouha (pronounced see-oh-nee boh-oo-hə).

The Jets are currently at a crossroads with Pouha. The 33 year old 6'3 325lb Nose Tackle from Utah has had a great season while acting as the bedrock for the Jets defense. Sources say Pouha will not receive the retooled franchise tag, which still would have cost a pretty penny if applied. A hungry market awaits Pouha, and after this season the Jets may not be willing or able to accommodate his salary, which is unfortunate. His age begins to play a factor in resigning Pouha as he pushes closer to 35 and beyond.

Not all hope is lost for Pouha fans, although from what I have read a significant portion of you believe Kenrick Ellis will be acquitted and annihilate opposing offenses just by taking the field. Sources including SBN NY and Vrentas think that the Jets will prioritize re-signing Pouha and navigate the cap situation by offering a multi-year extension. It's worth noting that PFF ranked Pouha as 2nd Nose Tackle both against the run and overall.

Read about the life and times of Sione Pouha after the jump. In the meantime, feel free to post your comments about Pouha. This is more about getting to know players as individuals, but you're more than welcome to post whether or not you want him back, etc.

Gang Green Nation Free Agents by Position 2: Wide Receivers

The amount of talented pro-caliber wide receivers in this free agency pool is nothing short of incredible. It's been a long time since you've seen anywhere near this many top tier options on the market at any position that isn't kicker. The downside is that countless teams are hungry for WR talent. The deepest position available in free agency will also far and away have the most aggressive suitors.

Some options, although not very many relative to other years, are virtual locks to return to their teams. As with Drew Brees last time, I'm exercising the personal option to strike one ridiculous non-scenario from our list. Wes Welker will not be on the list despite his impending FA status. He may not even be the best grab in free agency, but there is absolutely no way the Patriots let Welker walk away, and we all know it.

When reading this consider that, like last week, the rankings are arbitrary and based on perception of market demand for the receiver. The Jets aren't going to have a lot of cash on hand, and other teams that lack decent WR's on their roster will aggressively pursue and eventually sign the top names on these lists. The Jets will very likely have to settle on a receiver somewhere in the middle of this pool to replace Plaxico Burress, who in spite of criticism was far closer to a number one receiver than Santonio Holmes was for the vast majority of the season. But in spite of the Jets weak signing/bargaining position, looking at this assembly of players, it is very reasonable to expect that the Jets get a decent receiver at an equally decent price. One benefit of not being a top bidder is that you don't overspend or buy into something that isn't what you think it is.

List after the jump. Feel free to comment about who you'd like to see in a Jets uniform.

Gang Green Nation Monday Cup of Bro: Mail Bag

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - FEBRUARY 05: Chad JOHNSON #85 of the New England Patriots is finally making good on his word. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

One benefit of experimental posting is that what you like stays and the rest goes in the trash. Monday Mail Bag was the only segment to survive the test phase, although you'll still be seeing weekly biographies of various Jets. So Cup of Bro is now a weekly recap/Q & A segment.

The Brodown:

-Randy Moss is attempting to end his retirement after one season. No word yet from agent Joel Segal which teams they are fabricating interest from.

-Chad Ochocinco is attempting to change his legal name back to Chad Johnson, finally making good on his unsolicited wager against Darrelle Revis.

-The Eagles will franchise tag DeSean Jackson if an agreement cannot be reached on a contract.

-bob breaks this down in greater detail in the story directly below this one, but I was writing already so I'll repeat the disappointing news: QB coach Matt Cavanaugh is coming back to the Jets for 2012-13.

Golden Rex Caption Contest Trophy goes to user: ncquake24

Quote of the week:

I'd rather see a Wurlitzer Juke Box on wheels at RT than watch Hunter get beat on most plays.

A lot cheaper too with 5 plays for $1.

Gang Green Nation Free Agents by Position Part 1: QB

You asked for it, now you shall have it. A comprehensive listing of prominent NFL free agents by individual playing position. We'll start with what is easily the most prolific position in the league, the passer.

Let's be honest; the Jets said they were going to sign someone to "push" Sanchez, (although to be fair they say a lot of things that wind up being a total load) but frankly there is a very small contingent in this free agent pool that adequately fills that need, and even those candidates are highly debatable.

The problem with signing a backup QB is that they are automatically from a lower tier of performers. The ones that excel or are even passable are likely to get starting opportunities, like Matt Flynn. Taking the next step down and picking up the likes of Orton or Campbell undermines Sanchez and makes the crowd demand the backup take over at the first sign of stress. That wouldn't be a problem, but I think very few of these names would be a decisive improvement, if any. I question how serious any competition will be in the offseason.

I think the best Quarterbacks will look elsewhere first, but the almighty dollar always wins. With all of that said, here is the list of preliminary free agent QBs after the jump. Not included is Drew Brees. Brees is technically a Free Agent this offseason, but you and I both know he's not leaving the New Orleans Saints.

Gang Green Nation Morning Cup of Bro: Off Topic Thursday

Welcome to the jungle.

The Brodown:

-Tom Brady aggravated his old shoulder injury in the big game. "Bradying", or sitting on the ground with head dropped in shame is sweeping the nation.

-The Jets took out a full page ad in the Daily News congratulating the Giants organization as detailed in GGN user CervezaVerde's fanshot.

-David Wyatt makes the argument that Plaxico Burress, who is potentially Eagles-bound if he has anything to say about it, was part of the cancer here. This would be supported by what some of the many leaked complaints alleged.

-Brandon Jacobs thinks that 1.Gisele should "be cute and shut up". and 2.that even though it's no longer Giants stadium, it is in fact their house. It's hard to argue with him right now, but time will tell, Brandon.

Welcome to Off Topic Thursday

Several GGN members have been clamoring for an all purpose weekly thread for discussion of all things, related to Jets and football or not. This is a test run. If it sucks or if John disapproves, it's gone. You want fun, you make it so. User generated content, baby. Enforcement will be lax with the following provisions:

Nothing illegal. Link NSFW stuff rather than post and identify it as such. Avoid religious and political discussion not for strictness sake but just because we don't want to hear it, we want to have fun, not bicker. Civility is appreciated.

Gang Green Nation Lunchtime Cup of Bro

Good afternoon, GGN faithful. Kick your feet up and take a few minutes to relax. Screw your work productivity.

The Brodown:

-NYC receives the Giants in a parade, and the team gets the keys to the city. Steve Weatherford marches with the band for some reason. Little brothers are we once again. If you'd like to celebrate some city pride, festivities are still going on and the Giants will have a rally at Metlife at 3p.m. after ceremonies are concluded.

-Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno charged with DWI and careless driving in South Denver.

-Midweek moves: Bills re-sign Rian Lindell, Channing Crowder has contacted the Atlanta Falcons expressing interest in playing for them, Mario Manningham expresses a desire to stay a Giant. Tom Coughlin indicates that he will return as head coach next year and possibly beyond.

Story of Interest:

Former Jets Safety turned Patriots DB James Ihedigbo defended his teammates Wes Welker, Deion Branch, and Aaron Hernandez against inflammatory post-game comments by Gisele Bundchen, per ESPN.

Brady's super model girlfriend has received notable attention for both organizing a large scale prayer circle for Tom Brady leading up to the Super Bowl, as well as her acting like a really snotty, overbearing version of Adrian at the end of the original Rocky movie in the aftermath. Ihedigbo did not directly respond to Gisele, but he addressed her comments:

"You can't point fingers at anybody. Wes made amazing plays all season," Ihedigbo said. "You win it as a team; you win it and lose it as a team. And we lost to a good football team."

Tuesday is scheduled to be a mini-biography of a past or present Jet player selected at random, after the jump of course. Today's feature is former Jets defensive back Dwight Lowery. Feel free to discuss any thoughts about him, or any of the stories from the feed. Or really anything football that's on your mind. Go nuts.

Gang Green Nation Morning Cup of Bro: Special Inaugural Hating Life Edition

Tom's probably having a worse morning than you are. Although I'd be willing to bet I'm more hungover than he is.

Just in time for the Mayan Apocalypse and the wrap up of a championship game featuring two of our worst enemies, welcome to Morning Cup of Bro, a weekday morning feature that may or may not survive, based on reception. For all intents and purposes, Noble_lance is the winner of the bologna sandwich and signed used copy of Madden 2009. I'm incorporating some of your suggestions into this by using different themes, based on the day of posting;

Mail Bag on Monday, Profile of a (past or present) Jet on Tuesday, Open Topic Thursday, and Fan Favorite Friday.

I'll explain as the week progresses. I was going to affectionately call Wednesday Hump Day and make it a pic dump for the Flight Crew and other scantily clad types, but I don't think that will fly as a FP feature. You can also look forward to weekly serials as suggested by you such as free agents by position and season retrospectives. Every edition of Morning Cup of Bro will feature a brief update of the last day or so of Jets and/or NFL related stories with color commentary on one mini-story in particular. Without further delay:

The Brodown:

My instinct is to just lie to you and say nothing of interest happened this weekend, but that would be dishonest. The Giants beat the Patriots (again). Eli Manning got a corvette but walked away without the keys. Former Jets and Patriots running back Curtis Martin was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Aaron Rodgers earned season MVP honors, Drew Brees Offensive Player of the Year, Terrell Suggs Defensive Player, while Cam Newton and Von Miller received rookie of the year honors. Matthew Stafford was named Comeback player.

Something of Interest:

Tom Brady spent the better part of an hour sulking on the field, and then sulking in the locker room, and then sulking in the shower while the world waited to hear him speak post-epic fail. Robert Kraft and Alex Guerrero spooned Brady for a while and whispered sweet nothings in his ear, then he finally emerged, answered a few questions in a somber tone, and then made his getaway. Gisele came running out after Brady yelling "Tommy! Tommy! Tommy!", then the two embraced while the theme music from Rocky played.

If you take nothing else from this weekend, revel in the suffering and spoiled disappointment of our greatest rival. Put it in your pocket for a rainy day, because it's gonna be a long offseason.

Reader mail after the jump. The views expressed in comments or questions are that of readers, not mine or GGN, SBN, or Vox media. Any advice or responses I give are my own and not necessarily the views of John B, GGN SBN Vox or any of the aforementioned organizations staff.

Gang Green Nation Bro Namath Needs Your Help (Unrec please)

With the end of the season also comes the end of the most riveting and in-demand articles in all of SBNation, my game previews and occasional wrap ups. Since then there has been an enormous void, and the people are suffering - crying out for their dear Hombre Namath to return to them. Fear not, dear people of Gang Green Nation, your minister of snark is here.

I need a new weekly feature for the offseason, and one of you are gonna figure out what that should be, and you're gonna like it. This is the time for your to voice your opinions or ideas of what you would like to see more of on the GGN front page. Besides tinley and a few choice others taking this chance to say "mock drafts lol", not much is off limits suggestion-wise. Just don't say player interviews, it's really hard to get Jim Leonhard to talk to a guy drunk-calling and identifying himself as Bro Namath early in the morning.

Help me out and win the following prizes:

A bologna sandwich.

An empty Jets lighter with half the plastic bubbled off from burns.

A fake toe.

A real toe.

A Jets day by day calendar with the first month and a half worth of pages torn out.

One left handed Jets glove.

Some old used DVD's I don't want including: Daredevil, National Security, Mariah Carey's Glitter, and House season 1.

A used copy of NFL Madden 2009 signed by me.

My gratitude.

A link to one of your fanposts or something else of your choosing in the weekly segment you help create.

For anyone else who doesn't want to help, you may use this post as an all purpose dumping ground for off topic comments of images. Or just ask me questions or lavish me with compliments and make me feel pretty. And as always, thank you for using GGN.

Gang Green Nation La Canfora: "Decision to 'Move On' From Manning Made by Indy Weeks Ago"

Since I cannot seem to stop the Peyton Manning speculation on GGN, instead I will feed it like a bear that will surely turn on me one day. When you can't beat them, join them.

Jason La Canfora, insider for NFLN and one of the most reliable recent regular breakers of major sporting news, makes some notable claims detailed in this article from the NFL. La Canfora says that Colts owner Jim Irsay has already decided that the Peyton Manning saga in Indianapolis will end for certain this offseason:

"According to sources who were involved in the Colts’ GM search, the organization was planning to move on from Manning weeks ago, well before this public squabble between the quarterback and his owner," NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora said Friday on "NFL Total Access."

La Canfora reported the Colts will make a move on Manning "almost certainly" before the start of the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine.

This confirms what countless people who follow the NFL have been speculating on since early in the 2011-2012 season. The Colts owe Manning a hefty 28 million dollar roster bonus in early March and will in all likelihood draft QB prospect Andrew Luck with the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft. Expect developments sooner rather than later.

This will certainly extend the life and vigor of speculation surrounding whether or not the Jets will or even should pursue Manning. Some sources have said they will if he becomes available. I caution you, dear reader, not to get too far ahead of yourself. Manning wants to play again, but neither he or his doctors have any idea whether or not he ever will. Manning's herniated disc has impacted his nerves, and he may very well never throw like his old self again. It is worth noting that Peyton started throwing again late last year. On ESPN radio, former Colts GM Chris Polian said this:

"No one can know when and if Peyton’s nerve that controls the triceps muscle will regenerate completely and enough for him to play. The expectation is that it will. When it will, no one can predict."

Simmer down. It could happen, but right now the bigger question is would we even want a hobbled future hall of famer that is a shadow of his former self? Been there, done that. Also consider that Manning would likely go to the biggest contender of all his suitors, likely the San Francisco 49'ers or Baltimore Ravens, in my humble opinion.

I begrudgingly ask you the fateful question. Do you want Peyton Manning as a Jet in spite of everything? Do you think it's realistic? Do you think he will play again and if so, at what level?

NFC Eli Manning (NYG), Frank Gore (SF), John Kuhn (GB), Calvin Johnson (DET), Jason Pierre-Paul (NYG), Lance Briggs (CHI), Brian Urlacher (CHI), Carlos Rogers (SF), Dashon Goldson (SF).

AFC Tom Brady (NE), Arian Foster (HOU), Ray Rice (BAL), Wes Welker (NE), Rob Gronkowski (NE), Jake Long (MIA), Logan Mankins (NE), Brian Waters (NE), Maurkice Pouncey (PIT), Andre Carter (NE), Haloti Ngata (BAL), Vince Wilfork (NE), Terrell Suggs (BAL), Ed Reed (BAL), Troy Polamalu (PIT), Matthew Slater (NE).

Prediction: NFC 45 AFC 31

With the removal of Tom Brady from the 2012 Pro Bowl, the NFC's offensive advantage becomes even more clear. While the AFC arguably has a better defensive lineup and depth, the NFC offensive powerhouse led by Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees will largely score at will, and the AFC will not be able to keep pace. Stranger things have happened, especially in games that don't matter, but I think the NFC has this game locked down already.

Gang Green Nation Brian Schottenheimer Will be St Louis Rams New OC

SUCKERS!

No givesies backsies!

From the NFL: Brian Schottenheimer aka B.S. will be the offensive coordinator of the Rams next season, it is more or less official, and they are just waiting on the contract to be signed. Use this post playoff super thread to grieve for the Rams and their young (formerly) promising QB Sam Bradford.

Fisher and Schottenheimer, the New York Jets' former offensive coordinator, spent Sunday night at dinner discussing the position.

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported that Schottenheimer's interview with the Rams began Sunday morning, two days after he talked with the University of Alabama about its offensive coordinator vacancy.

I've always had a lot of respect for Jeff Fisher and his impressive and long lived tenure as an NFL coach. But man, what was he thinking? According to most of the press affiliates, one of the reasons Fisher chose the Rams over the Dolphins was to take the deal where he thought he would have greater control. So you know for a fact that Fisher weighed in heavily on the decision, and probably pulled the trigger himself after their man-date today. I hope Brian bought Jeff steak or lobster or something first, because he just got screwed.

Perhaps Fisher concentrated on the two years where the offense under B.S. didn't completely stink and rank in the bottom 10. Either that or he signed him on the interview and reputation alone and just didn't bother looking into Schotty's track record. Those are the only two explanations I can fathom. It is worth noting that like many on GGN, I am biased towards Schottenheimer, and perhaps Fisher knows something I do not. Perhaps Schotty Jr. will be a great fit for them, but I doubt it.

Good riddance and all that. I don't wish him poorly, but man is it good to have some change, even if it isn't exactly what I wanted. While he never realistically would have gotten a job coaching for one of our rivals, I'd much rather see him far less than have Schotty be a potential detriment to a more familiar team. Out of sight, out of mind. Woo Hoo.
