Weaver in the running for the American League Cy Young
Jered Weaver is on pace for his first 200 inning season of his career. Ever since he put on 10-15 pounds this off season he has been able to extend himself in games. In addition to that he has been able to get ahead of hitters more frequently than he ever has. His ERA is flirting with going under 2 and he has an outstanding 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. His WHIP looks like that of a closer on the verge of going under 1 and his batting average against is at a very respectable .203. If his teammates continue to give him run support this season he could make a run for a 20+ win season. Jered Weaver is starting to look a lot like his 2006 rookie season when he went 11-2 with a 2.56 ERA. I don't think Greinke and the Royals have the offense to get him the amount of wins he needs to win a cy young. That realistically leaves Roy Halladay who is arguably the best pitcher in baseball but is now on the DL. Weaver could make his run right now to put himself in prime posistion to be the best pitcher in the league for 2009. We are finally starting to see the great pitcher Jered Weaver can be. Weaver is now arguably the "ace" of a pitching rotation that I think could be the best in baseball when they are all clicking like we know they can. With the offense on fire lately and the bullpen starting to pitch well Watch out Texas and the rest of the American League because here come the Angels.
