Russell Westbrook inks an $80 million extension with OKC!

Congrats to RW! Hopefully our athletic guards (cough Powell cough cough) will see this and recognize what immense work between your freshman and sophmore years at UCLA can do for your pro career. Westbrook only became the freak of nature when he transformed his body and mind after his relatively modest freshman campaign in Westwood.

Mora on his continued search for a D-Coordinator

Mora expects to have a defensive coordinator in place in the next few days. "I’m still working on it," Mora said Thursday night. "I’ve had a Plan B, C and D. You don’t come into one of these things without an alternate plan."

Chanti Dan may be withholding the $$ needed to hire Mazzone.

Instead of being a done deal, contract terms (aka financial compensation) are keeping Mazzone from signing onto Mora's staff. Instead, Mazzone will be interviewing with the new ASU head coach today. A conflict for ASU may exist, however, as it is being rumored that the OC position for the Sun Devils has already been taken by Norvell. Stay tuned...

Reeves Nelson officially dismissed from the UCLA basketball team

Just because it's ever so much fun to pour salt on our collective Bruin wounds.

Breer thinks the 49ers will win!

Niners are getting a lot of love recently from and the NFL Network. This is the first 49ers victory that I've seen predicted this week. Hopefully it comes true!

Joshua Smith possibly weighs in at 280!

I feel bad even posting this because it's a completely unreliable source and unsubstantiated rumor, but some "sources" out there claim that Joshua Smith has dropped considerable weight, which can only bode well for our team.

I'm so frustrated with our defense today, but this catch by Nelson Rosario is the most impressive...

I'm so frustrated with our defense today, but this catch by Nelson Rosario is the most impressive one I've seen by a Bruin receiver in some time.

UCLA Basketball - 17 in Yahoo pre-season rankings.

Yahoo just put out their pre-season college basketball rankings, with UCLA at #17. All in all, I think it's a pretty decent spot, as they justify it by pointing out our enormous front-court strength, but relatively thin backcourt and the question lingering of who will step up as a 3-point shooter.

ATV comes home to finish his degree.

According to ESPN LA's Peter Yoon, Alterraun Verner is taking advantage of his time off due to the NFL lockout by coming back to UCLA and finishing his degree in Applied Mathematics. It's men like him that make me proud to be a fellow Bruin.

Pac-12 football championship game on campus!

Maybe I just haven't been paying close enough attention and it's already common knowledge, but this quote jumped out at me in Jon Gold's post about the title game's new logo: "With our championship game being played on one of our campuses, we already know the fans are going to have a huge impact on the game come December," Pac-10 Chief Marketing Officer Danette Leighton said.

Doyel: Westbrook is a man in a league of boys

Russell Westbrook, who hasn't played especially well in the first two games of the Thunder's series against Dallas, was benched for the entire fourth quarter of Game 2. That's benching your elite All-Star point guard in the conference finals! CBS Sports' Gregg Doyel writes a great article praising RW's maturity in handling the situation. Anybody want to guess whether players from schools like the community college across town would respond in the same way? I doubt it. Way to go Russell!

Guerrero does it again

Dan Guerrero never ceases to amaze me. He has yet again put our football team in a precarious situation by scheduling a tough opponent on national ESPN coverage on a thursday night in their house. Way to get behind your struggling football team and set them up for success. "ESPN will televise the Bruins' game at Arizona on Thursday, Oct. 20. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm PT/MT." - per Jon Gold

Somebody broke into the $UC Compliance** Office

Supposedly all that was taken was an employee's debit card, which was promptly cancelled after a short spending spree. I wonder what the real motive was, and who did it...........

One of the absolute greatest Bruins ever (and considered the best ever to play the college game)...

One of the absolute greatest Bruins ever (and considered the best ever to play the college game) lends his services to the Simpsons. I have to give credit to shaqfor3 on SBN's Silver Screen and Roll (Lakers blog).

Phenomenal interview with Kevin Love

Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears sat down with K Love and talked with him about Coach, his double-double record (post NBA-ABA merger), and his family and life. A great read.

#1 must-watch first-round game

Fox Sports recommends to the nation that the biggest must-watch matchup to start the tournament is UCLA-Michigan State. "The Bruins have been to three Final Fours in the past five years, while the Spartans have been to six of the past 12. Neither is likely to get that far this season, but it's a great matchup of proud programs and outstanding coaches in Ben Howland and Tom Izzo."

Timmeh still being Timmeh

Everyone's favorite former trogan bball coach, Tim Floyd, was apparently T-ed up in a game against East Carolina and had to be forced off the court by a police officer! But as SI jokingly points out, at least "he wasn't tased". What a clown.

I'm shocked (OJ Mayo suspended) - Part II

To piggy-back on LVBruin's fan shot, OJ Mayo is now taking a page out of the Cushing-$UC handbook and claiming that an energy drink is responsible for his steroid-triggered failed drug test. No, this isn't a joke. Seriously, "the Red Bull made me do it". Troll on trogans.

UCLA gets $100 million donation!

It's not athletics related, so I suppose it's somewhat OT. But Meyer and Renee Luskin just provided the second largest donation ever to our university. It does say that the money will be for new buildings, but I wish some of it would have gone to lowering student fees.

Westbrook, Love and Rose teaming up?

Royce Young on CBSsports wrote up a piece on Kevin Love suggesting that the three team up at some point in their careers. No, it's not likely to happen. But at the end, he does bring up the point that OKC might spend the money to snag Love, creating a Love/Westbrook/Durant trio. Hmmm....

Info on Fangio and Harbaugh

It's not great news for us, but interesting nonetheless. Looks like Fangio is probably not coming, and Stanfurd is planning on pulling a very non-Stanford-like stunt in offering Harbaugh a ton of money.

Farmar and Westbrook - epic game

Farmar goes for a career night with 28 points and 9 assists, while Westbrook goes nuts for 38 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists in a thrilling 123-120 (Triple OT) Thunder win over the Nets. Great to see two true Bruins dominating in the NBA. Truly amazing finish to the game, as the overtimes in particular were incredible for RW and JF.

Fairly likely that the Pac-10 will only have 3 bowl eligible teams!

All of a sudden, it's looking like a distinct possibility that only Oregon, Stanford and Arizona will go bowling to represent the conference. If Oregon State loses to Oregon (likely), Arizona State loses to Arizona (likely) and Washington loses at Washington State (quite possible), only the top three would have 6+wins. Interesting how our conference goes from being the most balanced last season to a giant mediocre mess in the middle/bottom and a powerhouse at the top this season. Gotta love college football.

Westbrook obliterates Pacers.

In the only positive Bruin-related news of the day, Russell Westbrook annihilated Indiana by leading the Thunder over the Pacers, 110-106 in OT. He scored a career high 43 points (13-24 shooting), 8 rebounds, 8 assists (only 3 TOs), and 3 steals. What's more, DC put up an insane circus shot in overtime, but couldn't beat RW's Thunder.

Kevin Love = Just. Wow.

Kevin love put up 31 points and 31 rebounds (along with 5 assists) in today's win over the Knicks. It's the first time any NBA player has had 30+ and 30+ in almost thirty years! GO BRUINS!

No Surprise - Cook goes to Duke

While we were in the elite PG's top two, it's absolutely no surprise that he chose Duke. Yes it's frustrating for us fans, but he chose the best situation for him in terms of proximity to his family, still an elite academic university, a well respected coach (even if many people dislike the guy, he has still accomplished a lot), and a team that just won the title. Fine. Whatever. Just thought I'd post it here.

Lazeric Jones officially the starter?

Jon Gold put up some generic "Pac-10 capsules", but as a fan noted, he wrote in Jones as the starter. Are these official reports from the Pac-10? Or just speculation by Jon?

Prince has a torn meniscus

I haven't seen anyone post this yet. Jon Gold spoke with KP last night and our quarterback says he has a torn meniscus. He'll have surgery on saturday to determine just how bad it is.

OT: Mark Sanchez robbing banks now?

Ok, well maybe not. Unless mr. overrated sanchize got much older, shrunk and turned white.
