Don't ask CJM about the new playoff system. While Rich Rod wants to talk about the +1 system and TV ratings, CJM's only focus is practice and his team. Gotta love his attitude.
Pauley Pavilion construction update: "on time and on budget"
This video came out today, but really, there's nothing new. This whole project has been unimpressive.
Anderson to Have MRI on Thumb
Kyle Anderson injured his left thumb in practice earlier this year and one specialist believes there may be ligament damage.
"He will have an MRI within the next day or so," Anderson’s father, Kyle Anderson Sr. said. "He could possibly need surgery. I’m glad he was able to get through the all-star games."
Anderson could miss up to three months after surgery. Let's hope there's no damage and he won't have to miss time.
OT: Missouri reveals their new football unis
I don't think these unis are anything special, but they did a good job revealing them. This has stirred up a lot of talk from MIZ nation. Does anybody when we are going to see the uni changes for next year?
Michigan Unveils $23.2 Million Player Development Center
"The facility, which was opened up for a media tour on Tuesday, is still without a few of its bells and whistles. From a functionality standpoint, however, it's officially become the new home for both the men's and women's teams and coaching staffs.
And it serves as a wonderful recruiting tool for all involved." (emphasis mine)
Check out the link. There's a video and some great pictures too (Coach John Beilein has a pretty cool book on his shelf).
The Lakers honored former UCLA and Lakers player Walt Hazzard prior to tonight's game.

UCLA No Longer #1 College for Pros in the NBA
Duke is first this year (16) with UCLA and Kentucky tied for second (15) in producing pros in the league.
Last year, UCLA was #1 with 14. This year, two UCLA players entered (Honeycutt and Lee) while Dan Gadzuric left during the lockout to play in China. That leaves 15 players in the league (arranged alphabetically): Arron Afflalo (Denver), Trevor Ariza (New Orleans), Matt Barnes (L.A. Lakers), Darren Collison (Indiana), Baron Davis (New York), Jordan Farmar (New Jersey), Tyler Honeycutt (Sacramento), Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia), Ryan Hollins (Cleveland), Jason Kapono (L.A. Lakers), Malcolm Lee (Minnesota), Kevin Love (Minnesota), Luc Mbah a Moute (Milwaukee), Earl Watson (Utah), and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City).
Josh Smith lost 25 pounds!!
Got ya ;)
Sorry guys, wrong Josh Smith. This Josh Smith took advantage of the offseason by getting into the best shape of his life.
Another big man who got lean in the offseason is Kendrick Perkins who lost more than 30 pounds.
My point: If our Joshua Smith is serious about playing basketball at the highest level, he needs to show total commitment to his game and his health.
Let's go!!
OT: High-tech mouthpieces used to research concussions
I thought this was pretty awesome to pass along.
Researchers at Stanford are using high-tech mouthpieces to understand what kinds of hits and body positions are associated with concussions. Football players are wearing these mouthpieces which are lined with sensors that transmit the measurements to computers. Pretty cool stuff.
"UCLA football head coach Rick Neuheisel is on the cover of the September/October issue of FORE Magazine, published by the SCGA.
Neuheisel and fellow Southern California head coaches Rocky Long from San Diego State and Lane Kiffin from USC were interviewed earlier in the summer for a feature on local coaches and how the game of golf plays a role in their lives. Neuheisel talks about the joys of playing golf with his three sons, Jerry, Jack and Joe."

UCLA BB Target Tony Parker Narrows Recruiting List
Duke, Ohio State and UCLA appear to comprise the final three college choices for big man Tony Parker out of Georgia.
Memphis and Georgetown apparently have been eliminated.
Parker is a 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward ranked in the top-25 from the class of 2012. Parker had an outstanding Nike Global Challenge tournament in August.
OT: Court of Sciences Student Center
It's sad that construction of South Campus' CS Student Center is better documented and more transparent than the mess at Pauley.
T'wolves expected to offer Love major extension
The Wolves are expected to offer Kevin Love a $70 million contract extension this offseason following a resolution to the NBA's CBA negotiations, according to a report from Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press.
I'm not sure how accurate the "$70 million" is especially since the NBA's CBA expires this summer; regardless, Love's All-Star year and continuing improvement prove he is worthy of a big-time extension.
Tuiasosopo joins UCLA as assistant strength coach
"Marques Tuiasosopo, a former UW QB and one of the more legendary players in school history, is leaving the position he has held at Washington for the past two years for a similar job at UCLA, it was confirmed tonight."
...
"At UCLA, he [Tuiasosopo] will join his coach at UW, Rick Neuheisel, who is entering his fourth year with the Bruins. It's a little unclear exactly what Tuiasosopo's role will be at UCLA other than that it apparently would not be a full-time assistant's job as the Bruins do not have any openings. A UCLA spokesman said he could not confirm the move or say exactly what position Tuiasosopo would fill."
This is interesting. Last year's youtube videos from spring and summer training/conditioning definitely hyped all of us up. All we heard from Linn was the players are bigger, faster, stronger; however, the season proved it was just fluff. Let's see if Tui and the improved weight room help.
UH QB Case Keenum granted sixth year
"University of Houston quarterback Case Keenum has been granted a sixth season of eligibility after being injured last season, according to several media reports.
Keenum tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a game at UCLA during the third week of last season. Keenum is fith on the FBS career passing yardage list with 13,586 yards -- about 3,500 behind the all-time record held by Hawaii's Timmy Chang."
UH fans are already whispering about an undefeated season. UCLA opens its season in Houston on September 9. I'm sure our DC isn't happy about game-planning for such a potent offense with Keenum back. Oh wait, what DC?
Love's Lucky Charm and offseason training
Love has been in Los Angeles since the season ended, resting and now starting to get ready for next season. He's been shooting 500 to 600 jump shots a day, doing yoga and strength training. He also is working with a physical therapist and, at the suggestion of the people he's staying with, has gone to a Beverly Hills salon for a ... manicure?
The UCLA Experience: One of a kind
Kevin Love said in an interview with 790 The Zone recently that he would have likely tested the draft waters out of high school had the NBA not required that players go to college for at least one season.
"I probably would have tested the waters but like I've been saying, I wouldn't have traded in that UCLA experience for anything," Love said. "There's so many things that went in to it: we had the sunshine out there in Westwood, the beaches, good looking girls, and the basketball of course..."
Parker Almost a Bruin??
Tony Parker very nearly left France to attend UCLA, but was too enamored with his home country to leave at that point.
"I almost went to college," said Parker. "I was that close to going to UCLA. At the last moment I changed my mind and I stayed playing professional in Paris.
Westbrook Named Rookie of the Month
Russell Westbrook is getting the recognition he deserves.
Westbrook earned Western Conference Rookie of the Month honors for December, the league announced today, a credit to the steady progress he’s made.
Westbrook averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 assists and 9.9 rebounds in 15 games last month. He scored a career-high 31 points against the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 29, matched a career-high of 11 assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 21.

Kevin Love and Sebastian Telfair gave the Wolves a huge boost off the bench in their recent double-overtime loss to the Spurs and Randy Wittman is reportedly considering moving them into the starting lineup.
"I've got to look at it," said Wittman. "It's early. I don't want to look at that, but I'm seriously looking at different things."
McHale Loving Love?
Here's an interesting rumor concerning Kevin McHale taking a hard look at Kevin Love:
Numerous sources with varying ties to Minnesota confirmed to DraftExpress over the past few days that Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale has locked in on UCLA freshman Kevin Love as possibly his favorite prospect in this draft. McHale reportedly likes the skill-level and all-around feel for the game that Love brings to the table, as well as his winning mentality, and sees him as an excellent potential compliment to Al Jefferson in Minnesota’s front-court.
Picking 3rd in this draft, many would consider it a reach to take Love, although numerous advanced statistical formulas have identified him as being the 2nd most productive player in this draft, behind Michael Beasley.
I can't imagine McHale drafting KL with the third pick; however, with Minnesota's position in the draft, I can see him trading down to get a few role players, setting himself up to draft KL somewhere in the mid-lottery.
Looks like his hard work is paying off.
