Giants & GreenJackets Renew PDC Through 2012

Two interesting summary points to make: • This means no affiliation shuffle dance for the Giants this offseason. Everyone is committed (or owned). • Check out the Bobby Evans comment. Wow, talk about a warning shot off the bow! There's been a lot of commentary about trying to build a new stadium in Augusta since the Giants came into town in 2005, but little actually done. Maybe with a comment like this (as well as an apparent renewed interest by the Giants in their affiliates) will help kickstart things.

minor lines 9/3-9/4

Weekend Highlights: Eugenio Velez had a four-hit game on Friday, including an extra-innings walk-off home run, and Ryan Cavan had a four-hit game with a home run.  Also, Ehire Adrianza and F...

Velez Hits Extra-Inning, Grand Slam Walkoff

Sure, earlier in the day, the Grizzlies were officially eliminated from the playoffs. Sure, Decker's playoff efficiency streak ended. Sure, we are talking about Velez. Still. A grand slam to walk off the game in extra innings. That's just cool. Can't lose sight of that, as jaded in the muck as many of us become. Good job, E-V.

Belt heading to AFL

Also announced: Conor Gillaspie and Charlie Culberson. No pitchers announced yet. Culberson gets to be the team's only sub-AA player there.

Is this a case of sending a message by removing a message?

Jorge Bucardo promoted to San Jose

I think that says it all. San Jose is in desperate need of starters.

Happy B-Day, Ryan Cavan! POTW and 2 HR

Well, if you're going to have a birthday, this is the way to do it. Get the Player of the Week Award after hitting home runs on back-to-back nights (from different sides of the plate), and then go ahead and hit two more. Congrats to the Belmont native! Also, take note that he's done this in Kannapolis, which has a 0.91 HR Factor in the most recent three-year factor numbers I could find. I.E., it's somewhat of a pitcher's park for home runs.

Juan Carlos Perez = MVP

I know that Fla-Giant posted a tidbit in the other fanshot on the California League All-Star Game, but I think JCP winning the MVP award deserves its own fanshot. Perez went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, scoring two runs and knocking in two, accounting for three of the league's four runs. Also, Perez competed in the home run derby, and while he didn't win, he advanced past the first round with five home runs, the most of the round. Despite a wind blowing in from center, this article notes that three of the five left the ballpark completely.

South Atlantic All-Star Game Ends In A Tie

Ugh...I don't know if that's better or worse than the Eastern League All-Star Game getting fogged out after two innings a few years ago at Connecticut. Not much doing for the Giants prospects in the game. Dominguez went 0-for-3. Joseph was the backup catcher and went 0-for-1. Jose Casilla threw one inning in relief, no baserunners, two strikeouts.

Bowker And Belt Are Players Of The Week

Not a surprise. Bowker has been red-hot since his return to Triple-A, while Belt had a very good roadtrip to the offensive parks in the southern division.

This one got posted on our forum, I thought I'd pass it along. The Yomiuri Giants gave their fans an opportunity to design a jersey to be used for a single game, and this was the winner. Um...wow. Stars, stars, everywhere. I bet Shinjo is ruing the day he quit baseball, because knowing the way he acted in Japan he'd probably love to wear that thing.

Renteria Up, Downs...um, Down

There's no official local story up yet, so just a link to the transactions twitter feed. I'm not looking forward to seeing who Renteria takes time away from. I think it'll be Uribe.

San Jose Wins Sixth Consecutive First Half Title

This was mentioned in brief in the Minor Lines, but it's kinda buried. The previous record for consecutive first-half titles in California League history before this run was three. This kind of consistency is amazing for a minor league team.

Brian Anderson Returns...finally!

A little promotion, but this is intriguing news. After missing more than two seasons due to injury (I believe it was Tommy John surgery, but I have not been explicitly told yet), former California League Pitcher of the Year Brian Anderson has been added to the San Jose roster and will soon make his return to baseball! He has always been a favorite of mine.

Direct from Molina: "This is probably my last year in baseball."

http://bengiemolina.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/05/appreciating_it_all.html Other bits: "I am not expecting any clubs to sign me in the off-season - if only the Mets and Giants were interested last year, when I was coming off five straight good years, I can't expect I'll have any interest after this season, no matter how well I do." But if you want your mind blown...read Bengie quoting the stats: "So that takes the pressure off to produce big numbers because, as I have found out, numbers don't seem to make a difference in the marketplace. The Giants signed other guys to beef up the offense, which means the responsibility isn't squarely on my shoulders anymore. Therefore I'm not pressing as much. This has translated into being more patient at the plate. I'm swinging at first pitches only 11.8% of time this season, compared to 39.4% in 2009 and 31.1% over my career. "
