Maybe I shouldn't be posting this. It's mostly a response to that one Colts fan, you know the one, and just before I decided to create a new account to post this in the open thread, Grizz managed to shut him up, which was all I was really looking for anyway. Rant follows.

Beester, you've driven me to delurk.

JB over at the Eagles blog and Skin Patrol at the Redskins blog probably hate the Cowboys more than anybody in the last fifty years has ever loved the Colts, and yet they have shown themselves capable of being gracious in victory and defeat.

You, however -- the closest you can come to conceding defeat is to say that defenses are compelled to play up to the level of the Colts offense, which is so obviously superior to the mediocrity that is the rest of the league.

Scores like Indianapolis 17 - Buffalo 16 and Indy 14 - Tennessee (Tennessee, for heaven's sake!) 13 might give the more reasonable impression that the Colts have a problem with playing down to their opponents, but I digress.

It just so happens that the NFL already has a mechanism in place to measure which football team, on any given Sunday, plays better football. It's called a "football game."

It's not a perfect system of deciding which is the better team, of course. But it's better than the one that you favor, which appears to be "repeating yourself a lot."

Of course, you can't accept that playing football games is a valid way to determine the better football team. After all, if you did, you'd also have to accept that the Super Bowl is a valid way to determine the best team in the NFL. And that couldn't possibly be, could it?

I've always liked the Colts, and I'd been hoping that they get their shot at a title, but just for you, beester, I hope that the only time I see Peyton Manning on my TV this February, he'll be bursting out of a football in a fake mustache and yelling, "Cut that meat!"
