Your 2012 Angels' DiSar Award Candidates
Over at Baseball Prospectus, writer Sam Miller did a piece on possible DiSar Award candidates for the 2012 season via his Pebble Hunting column (might be behind pay-wall). The Disar Awards were established by Joe Sheehan and named after long-time Angels shortstop Gary DiSarcina.
So, what is the award for exactly?

Padres Trade Frieri to Angels for Amarista
Roach going to Halos too.
Will the Real Kendrys Morales Please Stand Up?
One of the questions leading up to the 2012 season for the Angels was if Kendrys Morales, after being out of baseball with a terrible ankle injury, could return to his power-hitting form. Twenty-four games into the season, that question largely still remains.

Peter O'Malley Interested in Buying the Pads
Rumors says he wants the deal done before the all-star break. Sounds good to me. I was young but the Dodgers were pretty successful under his ownership, right?
What do you all think?
Watched the Padres defeat the Nationals tonight and realized that their win total combined with the Angels win total would still put us 3 games out of first against Texas. O U C H.
So How Long is Scioscia's Leash?
Twelve games in, really, no one should be stressed at this point. However, as most of us would agree, Scioscia has been faltering a bit in his decision making over the past couple of years. There seems to be some chips in the armor. One can't help but wonder if his success had less to do with him and maybe something else. Like the coaches he surrounded himself with. Or maybe just a really good, core group of players. Or maybe luck.

Marlins Announcers Cramping Victor Rojas' Style?
So Omar Infante hit a HR at Marlins Park yesterday and in turn, we all got to see that monstrosity in center field work its ugly, ugly magic for the first time.
Check out the video, though. Marlins announcer says the following, "It's gone! Light that thing up!"
I call copyright infringement!
"I always have that chip on my shoulder, no matter what kind of success I've had," Pujols says forcefully. "This is going to be an extra chip on my shoulder that I'm going to have the next 10 years, maybe for the rest of my life. I don't want to ever change that attitude."
Owner of Mariners Has Never Seen Them Play
Did you know the Mariners are owned by Nintendo? Yeah, me neither.
This is a weird little article about the third President of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, the guy who bought them, and how he has never seen them play. This all might change opening day, though...
OT: The new Van Halen actually rules and sounds like its 1988 again. David Lee Roth on vocals.
Opinions?
UP AND IN Podcast on Halos Farm
UP AND IN is a weekly podcast via Baseball Prospectus featuring two dudes who write for them, Jason Parks (@professorparks) and Kevin Goldstein (@Kevin_Goldstein). It's a podcast for extreme baseball nerds like myself and has helped me get through the off-season. They also do a bunch of non-baseball, "dude" type stuff like the "What Are You Drinking" segment.
Anyways, they did their run down of the Angels farm system recently. I typed it up while listening so I didn't differentiate between Kevin and Jason. With the Halos system they seemed to mostly agree on each player anyway so it doesn't matter much.
Here's a short, concise recap of who and what they said:
New Song by Wale Called "Albert Pujols"
This was released today and features Rick Ross. While I would like to think that it was recorded post-Angels signing....it's actually a leftover track from Wale's album released in November of 2011.
If none of this makes sense to you, just nod, smile and be stoked that there's a rap song named after our newest slugger.
Darvish Arrives Sporting Marijuana T-Shirt
Man, what's up with Tejas ballplayers and illegal substances? Well, looks like he'll be fitting in...
Making the Mathis Bet
Has the Pujols hangover worn off yet? Yeah, not for me either. Apparently, not for our FO as well since they've been silent since the big deal. We'll give them a break, though. After all it IS the holidays.
However, because of the slow news days weeks, I decided to get HH's opinion on a bet I made recently with a friend.
The Background:
During an overjoyed conversation online with a fellow longtime Halos fan after the Mathis trade, one of us made a joke about how Mathis will turn into the next Napoli in Toronto. Obviously, neither of this think this will happen. However, the question does arise: Will Mathis at least bat over .200 for the first time since 2009?

Kazmir Pitching Again
In Dominican ball. Sam Miller has the report. He also makes a good point about ex-Halos we still care about (Erstad) and those we don't (Ramon Ortiz)...do we care about Kaz news still?
Listen to Ron Washington's Game 7 Pregame Speech
Man, Wash sounds like an idiot. I can't imagine Scioscia sounding like this. Washington sounds like he's getting a group of dudes from the local AA meeting pumped up for a softball championship.
Francona Out in Bahstun
I hope he ends up in Seattle. I want our division to be super competitive...

Bill Plunkett: Vernon Will Not Opt Out of His Contract (sigh...)
No surprise here but Bill Plunkett grew a pair and asked Vernon if he was gonna opt out of his contract. Vernon has no plans to do so, stating:
"Maybe it’s just society, but people put too much on struggling," Wells said. "All of a sudden, everything is negative – you’re a bad guy; you’re unhappy. It’s a struggle, yeah. But that’s all it is. I’ve struggled before. Baseball is such a different game. You can be an All-Star one year, struggle the next year and become an All-Star again.
"It is what it is. … (Southern California) is a great place to live, a great place to play. I’ve got a lot of good years left and I look forward to having them there."
Feel free to tell Vernon to think otherwise on his facebook HERE. One guy has already told him to "HIT MORE HOME RUNS, PLZ!"
Trout Starts in RF Saturday
Wells DH. No Abreu. Bob Dubya behind the dish.
Who Sits By Whom on the Plane?
Who Sits with Who on the Plane Rides? (Off Day Topic)
As me and my buddy were watching the Angels destroy the White Sox, we got into a jovial conversation about who sits with who on the plane rides. Here are some of my ideas.

Is Tony Reagins Redeemed?
The last week of Angels baseball has been a roller-coaster of emotions ending on a high: the extension of Jered Weaver. Which admittedly, was totally unexpected. Scioscia blinked, we swept the worst team in the world, gained 2 games on Texas and re-signed our ace. Not bad.
A question still remains, though. Where does this leave Tony Reagins in the hearts and minds of a fanbase that has bashed him since he traded away the best hitting catcher in the league for a lackluster, chubby dude unaffectionately called "Big Splash" here on HH?
Remember the good days, when we called Tony "Del Ninja." Remember when Halos Heaven made shirts with references to Tony's stealth like moves and his love for Del Taco. Remember?
Well, the prodigal son has returned by actually working with Boras and signing Weaver. Will you take him back? Is he still on your shit list? Are you on the fence?
State your opinion!
Grantland Names Angels One of Six Teams "You Don't Want to Face in the Playoffs"
Nice write up by Jonah Keri on how the Scioscia formula (pitching + defense) has been a "secret sauce" for success. Weird to read on the doorstep of our season pretty much ending.
If you aren't familiar, Grantland is a new sports & culture site dedicated to long-form journalism and all things sports fan might be into. Some of the regular contributors include Dave Eggers and Chuck Klosterman. It was started by ESPNer Bill Simmons.... but don't let that deter you.
Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports Gives the Angels Some Love
My favorite line: "Since July 1, only the Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies have won more often than the Angels, who’ve taken the fight to the Rangers by batting .222 since the All-Star break and passing entirely at the trading deadline."
Yeah, I don't get how the hell they win either.
Angels Stadium Workers Authorize Strike
Apparently negotiations between Arte & Co. + stadium workers not going so well. "It's our money." - A. Moreno
Tony Phillips Signs With the Yuma Scorpions at Age 52
Better to hold a baseball bat than a crack pipe. Even at 52 years old.
What's your excuse?
Scientifically Revealing an East Coast Bias?
Fangraphs recently did a crude experiment in an attempt to discover the biggest rivalries in baseball. What was revealed instead was a big east-coast bias...which they acknowledge and wrote about.
Of course, the experiment also revealed that Mariners-Rangers is the biggest rivalry in the AL West....huh?
The Sky is Still Blue and Rob Neyer is Still a Moron
Neyer ranks the best rookie hitters and puts Trumbo 4th and Danny Espinosa 1st despite Trumbo having almost the same stats but with a better slugging percentage, OPS, OBP and BA.
Not to mention this flub of grammar to describe Mark: "He's sort of flubbed it." = He is sort of flubbed it.
Embarrassing on all accounts, really.
Angels Sign Mike Piazza
He's pitching now but has chosen to still wear no. 31.
Best of luck Mike.
