Double-T Nation Arkansas Player suspended for using Credit Card

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7700626/arkansas-razorbacks-lineman-jason-peacock-arrested-theft-property

Well, it appers the Arkansas lineman already admitted taking the credit card and purchasing $35 worth of gas. Coach Bobby Patrino has already suspended the player indefinitely. Amaro and Williams have professed that they are innocent, but still, I like that Patrino has acted swiftly. In my opinion, Patrino comes off strong and one who is in control of his program. He did not boot him from the program, and he can always reinstate him on his terms. I don't like it that Double T did nothing. He too could have suspended them pending the investigation, and then reinstated them on his terms afterwards. I hope the best for both Amaro and Williams.

Double-T Nation Tommy said we need to get out and Recruit

http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/2641/texas-tech-red-raiders

Change of Plans for Marcus Johnson

High three-star wide receiver Marcus Johnson (League City, Texas/Clear Springs) has decommitted from Texas Tech and given his pledge to Texas A&M, multiple sources report. Johnson was in attendance for the Aggies' heartbreaking loss to Texas on Thanksgiving.

I know recruits change their mind all the time.  However, given the current state of affairs at Texas Tech, I don't think we can just turn a blind eye to this report.  Tech92 asked last night what are we going to focus on now that football is over.  Well, we can sit back and watch our Football Team even crumble more as we lose our recruits one by one.

I am sure they all won't leave, but the bigger question is, with all the injuries this year, with the defections during the season, and what is left over, how are we going to compete next year.  There are not enough numbers to get better next year.  Tommy has to go.

Send your letters, tell your friends, if you donate money write letters and stop, if you buy season tickets cancel them and send a letter, stop spending money on other sports as well.  Shut off the faucet and protest with your pocket book.  This is what I am doing.

Double-T Nation College Game Day Number One - Tail Gate Roll Call

I am driving up for the Texas State Game.  I thought I would get a list of all the Doube T Nation Tribe that will be having Tail Gate Parties.  It's time to face the music.  You'll have had the entire off season to get in game shape.  Yes, I know it's only game one, and Yes I know its Texas State, but that is no excuse.  If you are over weight, and out of shape, then yes it was a good off season.

Can't wait to see Russian Coffee (Glasgow) and the new defense, and can't wait to see Truckload (Prutny) recruits.

Another Red Raider First Down.

Double-T Nation Weather Grounds Tubby Neal Brown Steps Up

I went to the San Antonio Quarterback Club luncheon along with about another 80 or so enthusastic Red Raiders to listen to Catfish and drink the Kool-Aid at noon today.  However, while we have been praying for rain every day since January 5, 2011, somehow Catfish got lucky and could not get out of Lubbock to entertain us.  One thing about San Antonio, we either get no rain, or lots of it.  Today, we got lots of it.

Instead, by mere chance, our Offensive Coordinator Neal Brown was in town recruiting a QB from Sam Houston High School.  Neal said he was in the parking lot at Sam Houston waiting for the rain to stop, and coach Tubby called and instructed him to get over to the luncheon and take his spot in front of a hungry and anxious Tech Crowd.  Tubby told him he could recruit that kid later.  We all agreed, and glad that Tubby had his priorities in order.

I spoke with Oldschool afterwards, and one thing for certain, all kidding aside, Catfish had done a great job in bringing quality coaches into our program.  I introduced myself to coach Brown prior to the meeting not knowing that he was Tubby's fill in.  He answered all my questions and was very enthusatic about Tech Football.  I have been fortunate to meet several of our coaches, and they a great people.

On another note, I was able to meet both parents of Jace Amaro afterwards, and man are they great people.  After meeting the character of our coaches, it is no wonder that we ended up with the 15th best recruiting class in the country.   These coaches are bringin in quality kids.  On days like this, I really feel good about being a Red Raider.  Now for the good stuff.

In my opinion, the most important information NB passed along was that it looked like that all of the kids they signed are going to be eligible and ready to play in the Fall, and he said that included Leon Mackey.  The other piece of information that was good to hear is that Scott Smith is one or two games away from getting out of the dog house with coach Tubby.  That was really good news.  Still no report on what he did to get in the dog house.

NB was really excited about the offensive line.  He felt that the OL, with three senior starters back, was solid and will only get better.  He praised Stephens and believes that we will have our first 1,000 rusher since The Real Ricky Williams.  He could not stop saying enough good things about Kennard, and they are expecting big things from him.  He said that we finsihed 15th in the country in total offense last year, and expects us to be in the top five next year.  He really likes Amaro, and feels he will step right in.  NB said that Amaro was the best TE in the country, period.  He also said that while Brewer looks great, he will Red Shirt.

He spoke about the defense, and said that injuries and suspensions just killed us last year.  He said that Russian Coffee (Glasgow) has really simplified the defense, and when you add the experience and depth coming in that the defense is going to turn some heads next year.  The only area of concern he said was at Line Backer.  He said defense will be much improved, but we need to stay injury free because we still do not have the depth.  He also talked about how The Jeep ran the 3-4, and that it was too hard on the secondary because they had to play man to man.  The good news, they are experienced and leanred a lot.  In the 4-2-5 they will play a lot of zone.

In closing, NB did a great job and I am sure he was not prepared at all.  He as much as said so.  He was in his Tech Shirt and casual pants and apologized for not wearing a tie and coat.  I do not know if he has done this before, but I would expect that anyone of Tubby's assistants could get up and handle themselves as well as NB did.

I would encourage anyone who has a chance to attend a Red Raider function do so.  I wish Tubby would have been there so I could have asked him about Obama's birth certificate, but NB was asked about it, and he deferred because of his pay grade.  Great day, and now lets go out and kick some ass.

Double-T Nation Anyone Attending the San Antonio Red Raider Luncheon with Tubby Tomorrow

I wanted to give a shout out to see if anyone else is attending the San Antonio Quarter Back Club luncheon tomorrow.   Coach Tubby is speaking.  Any questions that I should ask El Heffe while I am there.  Btech will be there at 11:30.  Let me know if you are attending and we can get together and trade notes.  Afterwards, maybe we can meet at the nearest watering hole and help solve Special Teams together.

Double-T Nation Tech Recruits Brewer and Amaro Shine in Team Wins

Jace Amaro had five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown as the MacArthur Brahmas outran Laredo Alexander 56-20 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.  This sets up a key showdown next week with the Steele Knights.  It will be Amaro against Malcom Brown, the number one running back in the country who is committed to Texas.  So this week its Tech vs. Texas.

Amaro was only targeted six times yesterday, but he made the most out of his opportunities.  Amaro, reminds me a lot of Alex Torres, but bigger, faster, and he has great hands.  What really impressed me the most about Amaro is his ability to block all over the field.  On the first series, he made a key block that allowed their running back to bolt for a long TD run for the Brahmas.

He is all over the field making key blocks. He never quits on a play.  He is a team captain, and he is always first on the field, and he is always the first to applaud the denfese when they come off the field.  I can't wait to see him in Red and Black.  I know it is only high school, and the game will be much faster at the collegiate level, but one thing I have noticed the last couple of games is that he already plays much faster than most of these high school kids.

He made two great grabs yesterday.  On his second catch he took a ball high out of the air and kept both feet inbounds.  On the next play, he made another good catch.  His touch down catch would have made ESPN highlights.  He laid out for a pass that just out of his reach.  He did have one drop yesterday, but I think the pass was deflected.  They could target Amaro every play if they wanted to.

Michael Brewer had another good day for Lake Travis.  Lake Travis raced to a 35-7 halftime lead as Michael Brewer threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more scores in the Alamodome in San Antoinio yesterday.   Brewer finished the game with 13 completions in 21 attempts for 297 yards and also rushed for 66 yards and three TDs.  The Cavaliers defeated Victoria East 59-28.

Brewer looks so calm and confident in the pocket. And he is really accuratte.   His arm strength is really good, and his footwork and vision down the field is scary good.  Brewer leads his team.  Again, yesterday, he was knocked down a few times and that really scares me.  He is tough.  He gets right back up and makes the next play.

The Cavaliers are 11-2 and get a chance to beat unbeaten Cedar Park at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Royal-Memorial Stadium.   Cedar Park beat Lake Travis 35-21 on Nov. 4 to win the District 25-4A championship.  Brewer and Lake Travis already avenged an earlies loss to Keerville Tivy last week.

I won't be able to go to Austin to see the game and give a Report.  Hopefully Austin Raider can see the game and give us a report.

The futue really looks bright.

Double-T Nation Tech Commit Brewer goes 2-0 against Aggie Commit Manziel

As promised, after waiting in traffic for almost a full hour, the game between future Tech Quaterback Michael Brewer and Aggie Quaterback Johnny Manziel was all that it was made out to be.  This game was billed as a shootout between arguably the two best quarterbacks in Texas.  Neither QB disappointed as Brewer Led Lake Travis to a wide open 48-42 victor over Manziel and Kerrville Tivy at Heroes stadium in the Heart of Texas Friday night.

Good news for Tech fans is that Brewer is 2-0 against Manziel.  I am no expert, and all I can offer is 36 years of watching Texas High School Football, and playing four, but Manziel is ready to play major college football today.    I am sure he will compete for the starting job at aTm next year.  He has the size, speed, and arm strength to compete in the Big 12 right now.  He might be the best player in Texas, except for running back Malcolm Brown.

But, what Manziel does not have is something that Brewer has all over him, and that is confidence and patience.   Brewer was spectacular as he accounted for 440 total yards.  He completed 10 of 26 passes for 248 yards passing and rushed for 192 yards.   What impressed me the most about Brewer, and I should say that I saw him play last year as a junior, and he was really good last year, is that he is in total command of his offense.  Brewer plays bigger than he really is.  He is listed at 6 feet, and he probably is, but he is a football player.  He is one tough ambre.

I believe Brewer was sacked three times that I can remember.  But it was his second possession in the third quarter that really impressed me.  After Kerrville Tivy was forced to punt on their second possession, Lake Travis was back up on their own four yard line.  You could not tell if Brewer was no his own four yard line or if he was ready to score on his own four yard line.

The first play was a quick lateral pass that resulted in a short gain.  Yes, Brewer threw on first down backed up on his own goal line.  You would think that Leach was calling the plays.  On the next play, Tivy brought everyone and Brewer hung in the pocket, and even though he got off the pass and completed it with no gain, he was drilled and I did not think he was going to get up.

On the very next play, on third and long, and backed up near their own end zone, Brewer calmly took the deep snap rolled out to his right, set his feet, squared his shoulders and hit his receiver on a 50 yard bomb in full stride.  The ball was in the air for 60 yards.  Three plays later they were in the end zone when Brewer hit his receiver on another long pass.   I was already beaming with pride.

I am going to give it to you straight.  Brewer is going to be a four year starter at TECH.  I soon will have a man crush on him.  At halftime I went over to watch him warm up on the sideline.  I had forgotten that I had on my shiny black Under Armour sweat shirt on that read across the front in beautiful Red Crisp Letters Texas Tech.  It does not hurt that Lake Travis is also Red and Black.

While warming up, Brewer noticed my shirt, and while he did not give me the guns up, he paused long enough to swipe his hands across his chest and point at my sweat shirt to acknowledge the Red Raiders.  We looked at each other, he gave me a big smile and a nod, I smiled back with a nod, and Tech History was made.  Boys, the future is coming and damn it looks good.

Not only can Brewer get his team down the field quickly, he can run the clock as well.  With the game on the line late in the fourth quarter with 6:07 to play, and Lake Travis hanging on a 48-42 lead, Brewer led Lake Travis on a 19 play offensive drive to run out the clock and preserve the victory.  On that final drive, Brewer had key passes of 11, 17, 12, and 13 yards.  He also had runs of 25, 16, 10, 14, 10, 13, 11, 17 and 9 yards during the game.  He is quick.

Brewer is going to be the future at Texas Tech.  I don’t know if he will compete for the starting job next year, because I personally would like to see him beef up a little.  I don’t know what he weighs, but he is a high school senior who need to grow into his body.  One thing about Brewer is he is very accurate.  He has good arm strength, but I am sure he will get stronger over the summer.  He has a quick release and good footwork.

I get to see Brewer play again this Saturday in the Alamodome in San Antonio.  Kerrville Tivy was really good, and this might have been the championship game.  I will give another update next week, but for now, rest assured that the future is coming to Tech.

Double-T Nation Future Tech and Aggie QB's Battle in San Antoinio Friday Night

I thought I would share a glimpse into the future.  Below is a lead I pulled out of the Austin Statesman about a battle Brewing (no pun intended) in San Antonio Friday night.  Here is the link if you would like to read more http://www.statesman.com/sports/highschool/lake-travis-kerrville-tivy-matchups-1053194.html

Double-T Nation New Athletic Trainer at TECH

I was looking at the Texas Tech website today and I noticed that we have a new Football Athletic Trainer.  Does anyone know what happend to Pincock.  Did he leave or did something else sneak by us, or has he just been reassigend.  I have looked around and I could not find anything.  I know it is time to move on, and I cannot wait for College Game Day, but I think this is interesting.

Double-T Nation Baby James Accolades

Is it just me, but I would like to know why Baby James is praised by every coach in their post practice or workout comments.  Also, will Baby James be able to wear his funny white shoes this year under Tubbs.  Really coach, do we have to hear about Baby James every time there is a microphone in your face.  Tubbs, we get it.  Surely he dropped one pass, or ran at least one wrong route.  Can someone at Spring Practice share with us how perfect Baby James is, and is he being able to wear those stupid white shoes.

Double-T Nation Hance and Meyers need to Bring Tech nology to us

I was reading an article on Lake Travis QB Committs to Tech in the A-J Staff article last night, and in the comments a Longhorn fan was braggng about next year.  He attached a link to a website sponsored by CBS.Sports.  While I am looking at this, it makes me wonder what the heck our leadership Hance and Meyers do all day.  No disrespect to Seth and the DTN, but we should have and we demand more access to our sports.  Thanks SETH for all his hard work, otherwise we would be out in the cold.  The TT Athletic web site is old, tired, and out dated.  Not to mention the bias coverage from the A-J.  Its time that the mice in the funny farm come out of their cages and get to work.  Hance and Meyers, you want the spot light, so do your job and bring us to the modern era in sports.  Go Red Raiders.

Double-T Nation Scout.com says that Boone is going to LSU Damn

Boone says that he is making his announcement tomorrow at 2 p.m.  Tubs blew this one.  Scout says he is going to LSU.  I hope that Tubs know what he is doing.  This guy could do it all, punt returns, kick off returns, play offense, defense.  If we lose Boone, then 2010 class is a bust.  I don't think Tubs knows what he has gotten himself into.  The Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M class are really good.  I think we are taking a step back that we cannot recover from.
