In a recent post, Steve indicated that bird rights and cap space are mutually exclusive.  He said "you can't have the Bird rights of these players AND cap space."  I am really dumb when it comes to the CBA, but I thought teams could exceed the cap to sign a player if they had his bird rights.  Therefore, if we are somehow able to sign a FA this summer to a max contract, couldn't we still sign Outlaw to a contract over the cap (we would have to effectively pay him double since it would be over the cap, but we would be allowed to do it.)  Am I wrong here?

Even if this is true, and DTS somehow does justify paying Outlaw double his contract in taxes, the trade is still horrible.

It's disappointing that we could not package Al Thornton or Sebastian Telfair to free up more room so we can offer a max contract this summer.  I thought that was the only way we would part with Camby. 

It would be horrific if this is the entire deal.  I expect to hear that we picked up a future first rounder or one of the players that Portland has stocked in Europe.

Cost is one large beer at the game for me (I think it's $10.25).  Hard tickets only, and we must meet at the game so I can get my beer.  Must be Clipper fans.
