Pride Of Detroit Who is this Jimmy Smith? Scouts graded 95

From left field - the four letter networks' SCOUTS INCs top 32 has a new DB in the top 10. Graded 95 and ranked at 10 - Colorados' Jimmy Smith, a CB weighting in at 6'2" 200 pounds. I wonder if any of you come across this character before. Personally I was skeptic to see this guy rocket up the charts. I'm no scout, but I do follow the draft prospects pretty closely. I like to think having watched as much football as I have I can recognize certain attributes and intangibles. Plus thanks to youtube, I can be a scout too!

My first impression were his zone coverage skills, Jimmy sits and roams his zone very well. Physical at the line of scrimmage and shows great press ability. My point - I like what he brings to the table in coverage as a rookie. Now you might be asking yourself about his tackling or you have already youtube'd him. First I'll let you know he does play the run well, however he does over pursue at times. This guy is ready to pop somebody at the line of scrimmage;  against Missouri he slapped a receiver a crossed the face - thats swag. The same game he held the tailback from running into the endzone using pure strength. My favorite attribute this guy brings to the table, aside from the swag, his football IQ. Does his play suggest he spends a lot of time in the film room? Does he have instincts that help him dissect the play? Above average reaction time? Jimmy Smith uses his height to make pre snap reads and adjusts accordingly in coverage. Overall, I'd say he is the complete package. Don't you want 2 Smiths in coverage? I do.

vs. Cal (10)

vs .Missouri ('09)

vs. OU

What do you think? I am amateur; someone with field experience shed some validity to this.  I like his speed and am intrigued to see what 40 time he runs.  The fact is he finished this past season with 68 tackles. This guy could bounce into the top 10 and someone who we previously believed to be out of reach is in grasp. Does anyone question his competition? Can anyone find inconsistency? Jimmy Smith passed my eye test. I would draft this guy 13th overall - would you? To be honest I am still a little skeptic; but at this point it won't take much more to convince me.

We should learn though, that with this Jimmy Smith surfacing - many more potential diamonds in the rough could rise.
