Buffalo Rumblings 50 Greatest Bills Series?

Hey how come this series stopped at 27 with Conlan?  It was something that I really enjoyed reading.  I think it would be interesting if everyone did a top 20 in their opinion.  The top ten or so should be easy to come up with but after the hall of famers it is wide open from there.  It would be awesome if the top 50 series could be started again, because I really enjoyed reading about past Bills considering the lack of star power on our current roster.

Buffalo Rumblings My Take on First Round Prospects

I have spent the past week off from school watching film and reading up on some of the guys that the Bills could target with their first round pick.  If there is anybody that I have missed, let me know.

Nick Fairley- Fairley was absolutely dominant this year and the Bills could not pass him up if he fell to #3.  However, there is no way that he makes it past Carolina and Denver, so he is not really an option.

Da'Quan Bowers- Bowers may be taken by Denver but he could be there for the Bills.  Bowers was a great player this year leading the league in sacks.  However, I don't see where he fits well into a 3-4 and he really needs to be a 4-3 DE to dominate in this league.  I didn't see anything too impressive in his bowl game this year.

Patrick Peterson- Peterson is a guy that I am really high on for the Bills to draft.  While corner isn't a huge position of need, Peterson is a much bigger impact player compared to anybody the Bills could draft other than maybe AJ Green.  Peterson has tremendous ball skills and is extremely quick to recover if he gets out of position.  I can see Peterson being an absolute shutdown corner in this league.

AJ Green- Green is probably the second best receiver I have seen come out of college in the past five years after Calvin Johnson.  Green is physical and doesn't drop anything that is within reach.  He will be an outstanding player for somebody, but I hope it is not the Bills.  They have much bigger needs than a WR.

Von Miller- I am pretty high on Miller and think he could be a great 3-4 OLB.  He is great in coverage and can clearly get to the QB.  However, I am worried his speed rush will not work in the NFL and he is not a sure enough player to take at #3.

Marcel Dareus- I really like Dareus and would be glad if the Bills took him at #3.  He is an extremely powerful run stopper who can anchor our line next to Williams.  He can get some push on the line and rush the quarterback.  I think that Dareus might end up succeeding more in the NFL than Fairley.

Robert Quinn- Quinn is an amazing pass rusher and I feel the better 3-4 OLB than Miller.  While he has the downside of not playing in 2011, his 2009-2010 tape really shows what he is capable of.  He is extremely quick and can also take on blockers and shed them with several of his moves.  Quinn would have to make the transition to OLB but I feel like he would be fine.  I would not be too upset taking Quinn because we clearly need to improve our pass rush but I really would like somebody who could come in and stop the run or be an absolute game changer.

Blaine Gabbert- I don't understand all the hype about Gabbert at all.  He produced big numbers due to playing in a gimmicky offense at Missouri.  I do not think he is a franchise QB and I would much rather ride with Fitzpatrick than take Gabbert at #3.  However, if the front office disagrees with me abd thinks Gabbert can be the face of the Bills they should go for him because he's not gonna fall far.

Cam Newton- It is obvious that Newton had an amazing season this year at Auburn.  The National Championship is just icing on top.  However, Newton isn't a guaranteed QB prospect whatsoever.  He has a pretty strong arm and is mobile but I would prefer an accurate QB who can stay in the pocket and makes all the key throws.  Maybe Newton will be able to do that in the NFL but I want a for sure guy at #3.

Jake Locker- I actually really like Locker as a QB but there is no way he is worth a #3 pick.  I think his stats were really hurt due to the lack of talent around him.  I do like his attitude and I can see him succeeding in the NFL with a year to learn behind Fitzpatrick.  I am all for taking Locker... if he falls to the second round.

There are a lot of other possible picks as we never know who the Bills are capable of picking, but I think these are the most logical and likely choices.  However, don't count out a different pass rusher or possibly an OT if we really want to reach.

Buffalo Rumblings Mock Draft v2

Hey guys this is my second mock draft so far.  I didn't take any trades into account because while I would love to trade down, I feel that it is nearly impossible to predict exact trade.  As you can see from my mock I am really hoping Troup and Carrington can step up on the D-Line.  Here we go:

Round 1- Patrick Peterson CB- Here I am assuming a combination of two Green, Fairley, Bowers are gone.  The best player left on the board that fills a need is Peterson.  He can come in to start day one and be a shutdown corner in this league.  He is just too talented to pass up and its not like Mckelvin has shown signs of greatest or Mcgee is getting any younger.

Round 2- Gabe Carimi/Nate Solder/Anthony Costanzo/Demarcus Love OT- We desperately need to find a right tackle who can hold down the position.  I am tired of undrafted free agents being plugged in on the right side and looking mediocre in both pass protection and run blocking.  I have the tackles in the order of who I would take if they are available.

Round 3- Andy Dalton QB- It is clear that Fitzpatrick is not the long term answer at QB.  I am completely against taking Newton or Gabbert in the first round.  I just don't see the franchise talent in them but if the front office thinks so then they should pull the trigger.  Also, if Locker slides to Round 2, I would love to take him there.  Dalton is a four-year starter with a lot of experience and Gailey will like his mobility.  He can groom behind Fitzpatrick for a while and hopefully be our long-term solution at QB.

Round 4(a)- D.J. Williams TE- What TE led our team last year in yards? receptions? touchdowns?  Ya, I don't really know later.  Shawn Nelson is not the answer and we really need a TE that we can count on to take catches at crucial points of the game especially in the red zone.  Williams is a special player with a lot of talent.

Round 4(b)- Casey Matthews/Kevin Sheppard/Mario Harvey ILB- We need a talented player next to Poz who can solidify our 3-4 defense.  Any of these LB's can come in and start from day one.  They are all talented at pass rushing, which is clearly a problem out LB's seem to have.

Round 5- Steven Friday OLB- We need some support behind Merriman incase that he proves to be not healthy enough to be efficient.  Friday is great in coverage and can also make stops in the backfield.  Friday will give Moats some competition and hopefully keep Kelsay off the field.

Round 6- Brandon Blair DE- I can't completely ignore the D-Line in this draft.  Blair is a huge guy and can be a backup plan incase our rookie draft picks from last year end up as Aaron Maybins.

Round 7- Davonte Shannon SS- With Whitner's status uncertain we should probably look for depth at SS.  It never hurts to take a hometown guy.  I watched him throughout his career at UB and the potential is definitely there.

Buffalo Rumblings My 2011 Mock

Hey guys I haven't posted anything in a while but felt the need to put up my own mock after reading so many.  In this mock I am assuming the Bills pick in the top four.  I am assuming we make no trades and resign Poz; however, I would love to get rid of guys like Evans and Mcgee for third or fourth round picks.

Round 1- Da-Quan Bowers DE: Bowers is easily the best pass rusher in this years draft.  He can play as a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE and will instantly improve our pathetic pass rush and give some run support.

Round 2- Nate Solder OT: Solder can come in and start immediately for us at RT and finally put some stability at the position that random guys seem to be getting plugged in.

Round 3- Quan Sturdivant ILB: Sturdivant could come in and possible start right away next to Poz.  He will add some depth to our depleted LB core.

Round 4a- DJ Williams TE: Nelson just isn't cutting it as the answer to our long TE problem.  Williams can fight for a starting position from day one.

Round 4b- Pat Devlin QB: I'm willing to take a chance at QB this late in the draft.  If we don't find a franchise guy we like I don't want anybody in the second or third round.  Delaware has been a QB factory and I like what I have seen out of Devlin.

Round 5- Darrin Walls CB: We need a young corner to come in and eventually replace Mcgee.  Walls has a mean streak and is dominant in the run game which is important for a team currently ranked last in run defense.

Round 6- James Carpenter G: He has faced some tough competition and would be a good interior lineman and hopefully Wood can move permanently to center.

Round 7- Armando Allen RB: His injury this year will move him back in the draft and I think he could be a great 3rd back for us replacing Marshawn.

Alright, well there is my draft.  Let the criticism begin.

Buffalo Rumblings Are We Keeping Lynch?

Hey I haven't posted anything in a while but was curious on this topic.  When we drafted Spiller in the first round I was surprised but not upset.  I think he can be a great contribution to the team.  However, as soon as we drafted him this pick only makes sense if we trade Lynch for an extra pick.  The draft is now over and Lynch is still here.  My question is are there any teams that would possibly still be interested in Lynch?  Also, what players are currently on the trading block per say.  I don't know why we would have drafted Spiller if we were planning on keeping Lynch.

Buffalo Rumblings Steve Johnson's Role Next Year?

Hey guys I haven't posted anything on here in a while but have a question to ask.  How do we fill the void at receiver if TO leaves which will most likely happen.  I personally do not think that Hardy is capable of being our #2 guy right now.  Do we pick up a veteran or maybe draft somebody like Tate?  I think that Steve Johnson would be a great starting receiver but was wondering if anybody thinks he will get the chance.

Buffalo Rumblings Rumor: Coach Jimmy Johnson Arrives In Buffalo

I have confirmed source from a policeman working at the Buffalo airport that Super Bowl Winning Coach Jimmy Johnson flew into the Buffalo airport today.  If he really is here to be looked at for the head coaching job that would be amazing news.  It is a very reliable source and I do not doubt its credibility. The identity could have been mistaken but he texted me and is pretty sure Jimmy Johnson is in Buffalo.
