Blogging The Boys Looking ahead to 2009

Ok, the season is over...  I hated the way the team played in the last two games of the season but the reality is we tanked again in December.  No amount of agonizing over the results will change that so the best thing to do is put it behind us and start looking ahead to next season.

Were we as good as we thought we we'd be? Obviously not.  Can we get better? A strong possibility.  How? Churn the roster a bit.  Upgrade positions through free agency and/or the draft.  Jerry says the coaching staff is set for 2009 so our only hope is to change some of the players and get "deeper" for next year.

In reviewing the roster of "the most talented team in football" it surprised me that only half of the existing roster (including the guys on IR) are players I'd really like to see back next year.

Check out the 2008 roster below with my 2009 "keepers" alongside and play general manager with me making your own assessment regarding the roster for next year.  The goal is to find a better player to take the place of anyone not appearing in the 2009.

Blogging The Boys BSPN sinks to new low

Last night, in a moment of weakness, I turned on BSPN as I was driving home from the Rockets basketball game in Houston.  I know, I know... we are supposed to be boycotting BSPN but I was not in the mood for Christmas music.  I don't know who the on air personality was at the time but he was talking to Steven A. Smith about his "exclusive interview" with T.O.  Link to the broadcast can be found below...

http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/espnradio/player?id=3774248

It started out as the typical attempt to throw T.O. under the bus by questioning the events at Valley Ranch last week.  At one point in the interview their discussion turned to the reception that T.O. got prior to the game in comparison to the reception Romo and Witten received.  These sorry excuses for journalists tried to imply that the fans booed T.O. because he was black and cheered Romo and Witten because they are white.

Could it be that they realize they can't make a story out of the alledged conflict between T.O. and Witten and now they are trying to attack the Cowboys from a new direction with their "concern" that there is "racial tension" in the Cowboy locker room.

I was seething as I listened to this crap.  I firmly believe that T.O. was booed because some fans still perceive him as a troublemaker.  Nothing more, nothing less.   Romo and Witten were cheered because you never hear a word of complaint coming from either one of them.  To me it was the fans' way of saying "just play football"

Personally, I think T.O. is a changed man since he has been in Dallas.  Sure he is passionate and can be vocal at times but he's not the only player in the NFL who is passionate and vocal about wanting to help his team win.

BSPN clearly has a vendetta against the Cowboys and, after hearing this latest attempt at driving a wedge into the team, I hope the Cowboys collectively refuse to give any of their "reporters" the time of day.

Blogging The Boys We went flat after Favre went down

Did anyone else get the impression that we took our foot off the gas when Favre was injured?

We got to 27-10 and then got complacent.  The offense became more conservative and the defense was less aggressive.

Blogging The Boys Cutting the nickel

Anybody else surprised that Nate Jones was released in order to sign Tank Johnson?  Many people think this is a sign Newman's ready to come back.  I certainly hope so.  Otherwise we are at risk if another team picks Jones up.  Who goes to the slot if Newman can't play? Maybe Oglesby has shown enough in practice...  I was just surprised that they let a corner go.

I was looking at the roster yesterday and was expecting Berger to be the one cut. Proctor and McQuistan can both play guard so I figured Berger was the man out.
