Tubby/BGC
I'm kind of bored at work right now, and I have a break so...I thought I'd rehash this. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like a lot of the conflict people have with Tubby and his UK career focuses on his recruiting or lack thereof.
Is there anyone else that thinks the big difference in the Tubby teams and Pitino's teams has less to do with talent and more to do with heart? Tubby is a really nice guy, he is classy and worked hard, his teams were sometimes hugely talented. I always felt like my biggest problem with him was a failure to help players develop. Some (Chuck Hayes) can do it on their own, most others seem to need help. Azubuike had everything it took to be a top player, and although steady, he seemed to fall short. Rondo was talented but never seemed to be the PG Hawkins was in terms of confidence and leadership, Sparks ran hot and cold, and forgive me if I don't think Bradley and Crawford's newfound confidence and leadership is strictly because they are coming to their own as seniors. I think it reflects the confidence a coach has in them.
I remember talking to a guy that worked in the locker rooms for years and he said the biggest difference in Pitino's teams and Tubby's teams was conditioning. I also agree with that, but for the last few years I've felt the missing element was passion, exactly what Billy Donovan is chiding his players for in that article in ESPN.
Even the Bogans/Fitch team that did so well going into the tourney didn't fight as hard as this latest set of Cats. I remember thinking that Tubby's decision to allow an injured Bogans to play (because maybe he thought it would be Bogans' last game?) was a poor coaching decision as well.
I think Billy G is giving a little of that fire back, it's refreshing.
Help?
Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out. I went to UK, I moved away, but I still get a lot of the games (not the SEC tourney except the final, unfortunately). My old man, also a graduate of UK is out of the country and is forced to listen to the games on yahoo radio. It works and he doesn't complain, but he loves UK basketball and I hate that he misses out on the visuals. Anybody know of a good online service where he can get the games?
I hope I'm posting this on the right place, but I didn't know where else to get the lowdown.
Thanks
