I won the Padres Memory Contest

Okay, so I won the latest Padres Memory Contest. What you win is 4 tickets to the game, a chance to go on the field for BP, 4 hats, a copy of padres magazine, an autograph baseball, and a phone (that they make you awkwardly hold on the jumbotron during the game). Basically what memory I chose was the first time I met Tony Gwynn last year, when I had wanted to meet him since I was 2 and somehow always didn’t. So I won and got to go on the field for Batting practice.

Photos

So Saturday was the day I got to go. They took me and my friends on the field and laid down the ground rules. No talking to the player unless they come up to you. Which we were cool with that, not a big deal. There weren't a lot of players out there at first but we were told we would get to stay until Padres BP was over. So we spent our time taking lots of pictures. They did tell us that we could wave to the players if they made eye contact so we decided to start a game of who could get the most players to wave at us. Yea we only got one player, Kevin Kouzmanoff, because every time a player made eye contact we all got too scared to wave.

So we were waiting for people to come up, and no one did... Then Venable came up to the people next to us so we thought cool, he'll probably come say hi. Then he didn't. So we were pretty sad. Then the Diamondbacks came out to stretch and we got anxious about meeting a player because it was almost time to leave. Then Nick Hundley and Josh Wilson started walking towards us, so we were like cool, no they went to say Hi to Diamondbacks.

Finally one of the PR people grabbed Kevin Kouzmanoff and asked him to meet us. So he came over and shook everyone's hand and then signed everyone's baseball. Then he went back to hit again, then came back to take a picture. And it was last minute because Padres BP ended right after that and we had to leave the field.

Then they give you the phone you win, but they make you stand embarrassed on the jumbotron holding it, while they tell everyone your name and story. As soon as that humiliation was over I was able to go back to my seats and enjoy the rest of the game.

Sunday was photo day, which was fun. And I won’t lie, I was exhausted but I was also enjoying 18 innings of baseball. So the pictures are from BP, as well as pictures of the Padres assembling to take a group shot with the Padres Scholars on Sunday.

Seven reasons to follow Jenny Cavnar... on twitter

I am going to take a minute to talk about Jenny Cavnar. First things first is if you do not have a twitter, make one right now and follow her! DO IT! If you have a twitter and are not following her, correct that mistake and start following her! You won't regret it. She's already given away tickets to a follower... so it pays to follow her. Her next goal is 700! Get her there!

http://twitter.com/jennych4

Now lets talk about the why.

From a personal standpoint, I've met Jenny and she is completely nice. i'm friends with her on facebook and follow her on twitter. She is not only great at her job, she is a great person too.

Today at the Madres luncheon she was the media guest. She not only recognized me but remembered my name and took the time to come up to me. We talked about twitter, and also how she has super cute shoes. So she told me they are looking to make it to 700 and give tickets away.

But I present a list of reasons why it is important to be a fan of Jenny Cavnar, and follow her on twitter.

1. She's nice!

2. She is great at her job and loves it

3. She shows that woman can do a great job in the sports media world

4. For Guys: She's hot and you know it!

5. For Girls: She wears adorable shoes all the time so maybe she'll tweet about where she gets them

6. Her tweets give you good information about the Padres and whats going on at channel 4.

7. You are a padre fan so just do it!

It takes a minute and you may even get something out of it. SO GO DO IT NOW!

http://twitter.com/jennych4

also check on ch 4's blog http://postgameonchannel4.blogspot.com/

This is a little after the fact, but it takes time to do this and I haven’t had any and I wanted to wait so I didn’t have to post a new story for everything that happened. Fan day and Adrian’s bowling bash were a blast. As you know Scan has the best hair in the universe and is a giant. Other than meeting him and Mark Grant I did nothing exciting at fan day except walk around. Then I went to Adrian’s bowling bash. I really only went to meet Steve Finley because I never got to when I was younger.

This is what was most interesting:

Henry Blanco walked by and smiled because I was staring. But I just smiled back and got of his way because honestly he kind of scared me.

Cla Meredith has an adorable baby.

Adrian Gonzalez is very passionate about his charity and made time to speak to anyone that spoke to him.

Steve Finley looks like he could still play, and maybe we should ask him to because well he’s pretty and smells nice.

Kevin Kouzmanoff is always an awesome guy and puts up with a lot of stuff, because everyone seems to want to talk to him. My funny tidbit is that it was kind of loud in there and when Kouz first got there he walked by me and I said “how’s it going Kevin?” But he didn’t hear so I told my friend “he can’t hear sh-t!” and that’s when he heard me.

Anyways it was fun and I recommend going to the next Padre event whether it’s the Padres Pour or any of Adrian’s events… we have some of the most laid back baseball players.

Mark Grant, Mark Neely and Luke Gregerson all made the Madres luncheon the funniest I’ve ever been to. Here are some highlights:

Mud Talked about Matty leaving being like losing a girlfriend and said “We’ve were together for 7 years, shouldn’t I be getting checks from him.” Neely is funny too. And if you don’t think they play well off each other on the broadcasts they really do in person so I’m sure it is only a matter of time before they click better on air. They mentioned that they went to the Letterman show in New York and that Mud wanted to watch the replay that night to hear his laugh. Also Mud said that he wants to bring hats back in style, which is why he wears them a lot, and that he tries to find one on every road trip. Very funny, nice guys.

Luke Gregerson is hot… And he’s single ladies. He is also really funny and very humble. One woman told him he looked like a young Sylvester Stallone to which he did a spot on impression of him. And he loves San Diego, because who wouldn’t!

We all know what happened during April games, so here are some pictures from the ones I went to, and they all say the date, or particular place from where they were, and there is also video of Heath Bell bowling, but if you saw the feature on Channel 4 it’s the same clip from a different angle. Channel 4 totally copied me!

Pictures!

Baseball experience last week

So I wanted to share this earlier, but I’ve been busy with summer school finals. Last week I had some of the best baseball experiences of my life and I wanted to share them.

First I went to the Celebrity Pour (at East Village). This is my report summed up: Channel 4 reporters and the baseball players are cool. Now elaborated, I’ll start with channel 4. I paid absolutely no attention to Quis so whatever. Matty V is cool but never really let his announcer persona (and voice) drop so I didn’t really talk to him. Jane Mitchell is professional about everything but also an extremely nice woman. Jenny Cavnar and John Weisbarth are the absolute coolest people you will ever meet. My friends and I talked to the two of them a lot, but not about anything except what was going on at the event. And just how’s it going things like that. They were both a little wasted but extremely nice. Jenny either has a just as pretty sister, or a pretty friend that looks like her. Anyways, Cla and Chase were pretty cool, and only a little drunk. They were mostly interested in bowling and left earlier than everyone to be good little engaged boys. But they were really nice and modest. Again didn’t talk to them about anything important. Bryan Myrow showed up and was a little reserved but dude got wasted. But he is completely cool and awesome. We talked to him a lot, but it was really about nothing. Honestly, it was like hey how is it going you are cool blah blah. My friends and I did take a shot with him though. Now I’ve read what Kouz said and I don’t think anyone should take it seriously. The guy was drunk and his team just lost, plus he somehow thought everything in the world was the funniest thing and you never know if he was trying to make a joke. I’ve met the guy in a baseball context and now drunk and I can tell you it’s like two different people. Both sides of him are cool. I kept asking him if he rode his bike there because he shouldn’t ride home drunk. Other than that nothing important was said. A guy that works at the Bar looked a lot like Kouz, my friend was drunk and kept thinking he was him. A lot of people thought so and they even took a picture together. I can tell you guys though that it was an awesome experience to see these people in a relaxed situation and drunk but still being incredibly nice and cool. I wouldn’t take anything that happened that night too seriously. Also i never saw them eat a thing, so i think that's how they got so drunk. Randy Wolf showed up late and I don’t think he stayed long… but when he walked behind the bar, everyone said “randy!” like he was norm from cheers. But he was nice. All and all it was a fun experience I wish they did stuff that cool all the time.

Saturday morning I had a Madres luncheon. Edgar Gonzalez was the player guest. He is HILARIOUS. He talked about how he shaves his goatee. He said he likes to grow it out because he looks young without it, but he shaves it off because his wife wants him too. He says he doesn’t mind it shaved because he can walk around without people calling him Adrian. Other than that he talked about the regular I’m not Adrian, I’m Edgar we aren’t competitive sort of things.

Now here comes the best experience ever. I found out earlier in the week that I won an opportunity to actually go ON the field for batting practice Saturday. So we went and did that. Now let me tell you this, it is one thing to be on a major league field, but another thing to be there with major league baseball players and have them taking batting practice. When we first got there Josh Bard (and some others) were taking batting practice. Bardo looked good; he was stretching his ankles in between and everything. (oh and I got a Josh Bard ball from the players’ wives) We weren’t allowed to talk to them or ask for pictures or autographs, unless they came up to us, so we pretty much just stood there and took pictures. Also one of Hoffman’s sons took BP, sign that kid up! Scan walked by a couple times doing things, I didn’t realize he was so tall and so hot! Anyways, the pitchers come out for BP first and I got really antsy being so close to Greg Maddux so when he turned around I made eye contact with him I said (thankfully quietly) “Holy f*** that is Gregg Maddux”. I don’t get star struck often but there is something weird about being that close to Maddux. McGann walked by us btw and if he didn’t have a beard he would look twelve. Anyways the only player that came up to us was Jake Peavy, we got autographs and a picture with him. Jake Peavy has got to be the coolest person to ever live. He actually came up to everyone individually, looked us straight in the eye and while shaking our hands said “hi, I’m Jake” CY Young award winning Jake Peavy introduced himself. It was an amazing experience. Just before we had to go the 98 squad starting assembling on the field it was funny watching them all, I kept thinking woah when did these guys get so old? Then we got to see them take a group shot but we weren’t on the field by then just by the other early entry fans.
